For the 1999 Ford Mustang, Ford gives its sports car fresh styling and more motor. The 3.8-liter V6 engine makes 190 horsepower and 220 pound-feet of torque. The SOHC V8 found in GT models gets an 16-percent increase in horsepower. Improvements to the V6 and GT suspension and steering gear, as well as a styling update.

When looking for my own first car, I was lucky enough to have my Dad pay for whatever I wanted. I got to test drive an older Eclipse, and a Z28. Even though i was pretty torn between the Z28 and Mustang, it was really no comparision once i really thought about it. Sure the Z28 is so much faster, but the inside is pathetic and so out-dated. Mean while inside the Mustang is completely different which included a Mach 1000 Sound System. Stick is more than worth it.

The GT, while looking over blown certainly delivers FUN. The fake vents are a little embarrassing but the respectable interior and traction control makes up for it. The TC allows for rapid progress without the need for anxiety attacks, even in the wet. Overall I like the car, its easy to reach the cornering limits but safe enough to stay there and play a while with the option of a leaving the TC on to calm you down. I get between 15 and 22mpg and for the money what would be more fun?

Im baffled as to how this car got a 2 for a ranking. I love this car. I bought mine as soon as they introduced the new design and have loved it ever since. Not one mechanical problem yet with almost 50,000 miles.

In September of 1999 my husband and I were looking for another car. We test drove the mustang, and loved it. 2 1/2 years later we are still enjoying it, and have only had to do routine maintenance on it. No trips back to the dealer...not once, not yet! It has about 48,000 miles on it now, is a V6, manual transmission, with a rear spoiler. Great car, fun, fast, and easy to drive!

The only thing I really hate about this car is the cup holder next to the stick shift is all but useless. You cant even put a soda can there as the gear shift hits it in 2nd gear.

My 60 year old mother bought this Mustang from a colleague of mine who had it since new. She bought it in 2006 with 30000 miles as her condo car (Florida). During her ten years of owning this Mustang, she has driven it about 30000 miles. Since taking ownership she has done regular maintenance (oil, oil filter, air filter). In ten years, it has never skipped a beat. It has been as reliable as a car half its years. In ten years, it has only needed two batteries, tires and an alternator. The Mustang never let her stranded and had no problems whatsoever. Everything still works; A/C, power windows, power mirrors, cruise control, power seat and the 460 stereo is awesome! My mother has graciously given her Mustang to my step-daughter. My mother has bought a new Nissan Altima that has been plagued by minor problems. After owning the Mustang for ten years, trouble free, she appreciates that Mustang. Its amazing that a 17 year old car, that she drove for ten years, has been more reliable than her new Nissan. That little black stallion continues to be very reliable, even if it is 17 years old. Ford did it right. That V6 is no V8, but that Mustang handles so nice that its still a thrill to drive!
