This Year's Model Updates:

The 1998 Ford Mustang gains standard equipment, such as power windows and door locks, air conditioning, and premium sound. Options are shuffled as well, making it easier to choose the car you want. GT models get a slight boost in power.

Pros:
  • Looks great, handles well, very comfortable for a sports car.
Cons:
  • Too bad the Mustang gets its butt whipped by the GM pony cars.

  • 1998 Mustang V6 - 1998 Ford Mustang

I have a 1998 Mustang w/ the 3.8 V6. I got it in September 2006 so its been 3 years now. Its a pretty good car. I got it from a family member with only 46,000 miles on it in 2006. Now it has 88,000. Ive had to replace the tires, and the brakes, windshield, along with the rear differential fluid twice. Other than those things the car has been virtually maintenance free. Its by no means a comfortable car. You feel every bump in the road. The seats are uncomfortable for long drives and it doesnt handle that great. I average about 22 miles per gallon mixed use. Im not really a sports car kinda person... I think Ill go with something with four doors and better fuel economy...

  • Ford Mustang GT - great vehicle! - 1998 Ford Mustang

I bought this 98 GT used with 10k miles, and it has been a wonderful experience to own it. I originally had purchased the V6 but traded up to the V8 for the power. If youre going own a Mustang, you gotta go for the GT. Aside from all the stereotypical BS that some close-minded people say about Fords, I gotta say that this car has been ultra-reliable (knock on wood) and an awesome ride. I definitely recommend it to anyone who wants a fun, reliable, powerful vehicle that gives you freedom, independence, and joy.

  • Not Happy - 1998 Ford Mustang

At least the car look good. My wife bought this car before we were married and as soon as she could she pawned it off on me. It doesnt handle well. My road to work is twisty and I had always enjoyed seeing what my car can do on it. The mustang handles like a brick. On the inside, the seats are not very good on the lower back and the seatbelts tend to turn in such a way that when you close the door the buckle jams the door and cuts into the paneling. All in all I have not enjoyed this car.

  • FRONT END BAD - 1998 Ford Mustang

I BOUGHT MY CAR NEW AND AFTER I GOT 20000 MILES ON MY CAR, I HAD A HARD TIME KEEPING IT ON THE ROAD. I TOOK IT IN AND HAD FRONT IN ALIMENT ,AND I BOUGHT NEW TIRES. THE PROBLEM WAS STILL THERE. NOW I HAVE 60000 MILES ON IT AND THE CAR WAS OUT TO KILL ME. TOOK IT BACK AND FOUND OUT THAT IT WAS THE RIGHT AND LEFT LOWER CONTROL ARMS WERE NEEDING TO BE REPLACE. ALSO FOUND I HAD A REAR MAIN SEAL TRANSMISSION LEAK. AND OIL LEAK TOO. I ALSO HAD TO HAVE AN IDLER PULLEY REPLASED. AFTER ALL HAVE BEEN DONE I STILL HAVE A LITTLE PROBLEM PULLING TO THE RIGHT. THANK GOD FOR EXTENED WARRANTIES YOU’RE GOING TO NEED IT.

  • Should have opted for the Cobra - 1998 Ford Mustang

I like my Mustang but I am tired of losing stoplight races to rivals like Cobras and Z28s. I have K&N air intake and flowmaster exhaust and while they make the car sound good (oops I mean GREAT!) they still dont make the car fast enough to damage the ego of the jerk in the Camaro next to me.
