This Year's Model Updates:

The 1998 Ford Mustang gains standard equipment, such as power windows and door locks, air conditioning, and premium sound. Options are shuffled as well, making it easier to choose the car you want. GT models get a slight boost in power.

Pros:
  • Looks great, handles well, very comfortable for a sports car.
Cons:
  • Too bad the Mustang gets its butt whipped by the GM pony cars.

I absolutely love my Mustang. Although it isnt the V8 it still has decent power. The best oart about it is the styling inside and especially out, it makes the car so fun to drive. Ford did something right with this car too becuase I havent had to fix it once. All my friends and family love it.

I just got a 98 5spd V6, and its been a decent car. The fact that it has 215ft/lbs of torque, and an open differential makes driving in the rain less than pleasurable. Handling is subpar as well for a sports car. I have autocrossed it, and while the torque makes up for the lack of horsepower, the handling drags your times down significantly. With some upgrades, it could be a stellar car, but why upgrade it when I can get a better handling and faster car such as the Miata or 300ZX for the same price. All in all, its a decent car that will take a beating, but dont expect it to be a true spors car. This isnt a true sports car, but if you want a sporty cruiser, then this will satisfy you

  • Blast to drive! - 1998 Ford Mustang

Had a GT 20 years ago, was fun to drive then, even more fun now. Convertibles are a blast, like riding a motorcycle but more comfortable, the V-8 power is awesome, can easily spin the tires. Seats and position are comfortable, back seat is fine for kids only. Handles quick, a little light in the rear though. The tops wear out and run $400-$800. Real fun to drive, turns heads. Plenty of power.

  • Phat GT Ragtop - 1998 Ford Mustang

Have waited a long time to find a ragtop which was not driven into the ground by a youthful driver. If you are lucky enough to find one as I did, adult owned by only 2 owners, it is a GREAT car to drive and performance is very good!

My Mustang has been a great car. It has been on many road trips and traveled 180,000 miles and I have had no problem with the car at all. I havent taken the best care of it (mechanical wise), but it still runs great. I really dont have any major complaints about it! Definitely got my moneys worth out of it.

My 1998 Ford Mustang is by far the best car I have ever owned. It gets about 24-25 mpg in the city, and about 30 mpg on the highway. The styling on Mustangs are unbeatable, both the interior and the exterior. The performance is pretty good coming from the 3.8 Liter V6 but its not like the GT or the Cobra. The reliability of the Mustang is great its never stranded me anywhere, even when its down near 0 degrees in the winter it just starts right up. Overall I would give this car a 10 out of 10 -- its a wonderful car and I have never once regretted buying it. I would strongly recommend this car to anyone.

  • Great car has lasted and held up well. - 1998 Ford Mustang

I have had no problems mechanically with my car. That means a lot to me. I am constantly annoyed by the fact that when you have a cup in the front cupholder, you cant shift. Also the cupholders arent adjustable, so if you go round a curve, and the cup isnt a perfect fit... oops, there goes another drink. It might be petty to complain about that, but it has been a huge pet peeve to me. The drivers seat is starting to lose integrity. The foam gets smushed after so many years and I get it just doesnt come back to normal after a while. I cant believe that it has been so reliable. Ford did good on this model. Also, they made a lot of stuff standard, I just wish I had cruise.

  • My wife loves it! - 1998 Ford Mustang

I bought the laser red GT Convertible new in 1998 for my wifes 49th birthday Its just had its 30K dealer service and only 3 minor items showed up. The rear brake pads and the original battery are nearing replacement, and there is slight oil seepage at the steering rack (not enough to even spot my garage floor though). Other than replacing the original tires at 22K miles and normal maintenance, I have spent $0 on repairs. Its been trouble free and burns no oil between 3K mile changes. It has all factory options except the engine block heater and they all still work fine too. I gave the interior a 7 only because legroom is a bit cramped for tall drivers and the seat belt frays.

I love this car. Absolutely nothing wrong with it. Everyones head turns when I drive by.

Although this car did need a new transmission just before the warranty expired, it has been trouble-free since.
