This Year's Model Updates:

The 1998 Ford Mustang gains standard equipment, such as power windows and door locks, air conditioning, and premium sound. Options are shuffled as well, making it easier to choose the car you want. GT models get a slight boost in power.

Pros:
  • Looks great, handles well, very comfortable for a sports car.
Cons:
  • Too bad the Mustang gets its butt whipped by the GM pony cars.

  • Base made me get a GT - 1998 Ford Mustang

I bought a 98 Mustang v6 in Feb 09. I knew NOTHING about the specifics of Mustangs, I just wanted one. First night out, I went at it with a Aurora. He ate me alive. I thought I had a fast car!?! Then, it was brought to my attention, that I shouldve gotten a 5.0. I knew that, but I didnt think it made a difference. I have upgraded (its a 97) to a GT and its a world of difference. Handling, Sound, Speed, and Confidence is on another level. I LOVE my GT. I LOVE it. I bought it with 82k on the dash and in ONE month I have put on 3k. This is the car to have, especially in a big city like Chicago.

  • My Dream! - 1998 Ford Mustang

im currently 16 years old. i have wanted a mustang since i was 8 years old. i never even considered anything else. and im glad i didnt.. i originally was looking at a 2006 black mustang V6 with an automatic transmission and leather seats but i ended up buying almost the exact opposite. i have a white 1998 mustang with a V8, a manual tranny, and cloth seats and i still love it. this car is everything a teenage boy probably shouldnt have. but i honestly believe that u can get yourself just as dead in a V6 as u can in a V8. this car is what i always dreamt of. i love the smooth shifts, the mach audio, and how i can spin tires by barely giving it any gas at all. this car has the power!

  • Love my Stang - 1998 Ford Mustang

I have owned a few Mustangs over the years, but the 96-98s are my favorite. This is my first GT and I love the 4.6 liter powerhouse. It has a nice rumbling exhaust and is very quick! This Mustang GT gets 24 in town and close to 30 mpg on the hwy... not sure why edmunds only says 15 cty and 24hwy... any way the car handles great accelerates quickly and is just fun, fun, fun!!!

  • Awesome Vehicle - 1998 Ford Mustang

I can pretty say this is the best vehicle I have owned thus far. Ive killed potholes, ran into snowbanks, and this car just wont bend, except for a little exterior damage. Cruise control just went out last week, but for 200k miles, its about time something did. So far, that is the only thing other than routine stuff that Ive had to replace. Stock sound is awesome, road noise is quiet until about 60, suspension is not quite as stiff as many say, and the backseat is just perfect for the poodle. Overall, fantastic racing vehicle, not so great for family time or winter four-wheeling.

  • Great Car - 1998 Ford Mustang

This car is the best car I have ever owned. It runs great and gets great gas mileage. The car currently has over 160,000 miles and is still running strong. I would recommend anyone who loves to drive to buy this car.

  • I miss this car - 1998 Ford Mustang

I really miss my car. Someone just hit and ran me in a head on collision. It looked like a small fender bender but after the mechanic looked at it they said the bar the transmission is attached to really bent. Making this car totaled. I am so sad. I loved it. Bought it new and drove it for 10 years. Would have lasted forever had this not happened. And it was beautiful. I like it much better than the newer models. Sad, sad, day for me.

  • Not Bad - 1998 Ford Mustang

Not a bad car. Fun to drive but surely lacking on the power. We upgraded to a GT after about a year. Had nice comfortable seats.

  • I just love my 98 Mustang - 1998 Ford Mustang

I have a 1998 automatic v6 Mustang. I just love it. It has 218,000 miles and still running great. The only thing that Ive had a problem with is the alternator and I only replaced it once. Thats the only trouble Ive had with it in the 4 years Ive had it and I think thats pretty darn good. It handles great, has good power, and good gas mileage. Ive been car shopping and I just cant find anything that I like better. Not even the newer Mustangs. I think they perfected the Mustang in 98. It has good power and good gas mileage.I think Im just going to have to find another 98 Mustang when mine finally gives up the ghost which Im hoping is a long time from now.

  • Love It - 1998 Ford Mustang

I bought my car with 133000 miles and I have been running it very hard and have not had a single problem. The quality is great and it gets very good gas mileage. It is not as fast as my 5.0 Mustang but with a few mods it runs out pretty well. It is very easy to drive fast and I really enjoy it.

I bought my GT a year ago with 160,000 miles on it. I was warned not to get a car with that many miles on it, but i proved them wrong. The filler neck grommet leaked If you buy a 4.6 be careful if it has a plastic intake manifold. They tend to crack where the coolant goes through it by the coolant sensor, but that wasnt even hard to replace. The cupholder are horrible and the interior does seem to squeak . Also my window motor went. It does not handle like a European car but it goes like hell in a straight line. But I have 186,000 with relatively few problems. Very reliable.
