After 36k mi, only two issue to report. I had a sensor go bad on the engine at 12k. Replaced under warranty. The original right rear tire wore unevenly. Otherwise, this car has been good to me. The wagons cargo space has come in handy many times. The engine power is adequate, although more power would be nice. The advance trac is wonderful in the snow. So far. my ZTW has been a good car.

This car was a nightmare. It had constant electrical problems, and a piston shattered at 120K miles. The mechanic told us that commonly happens even after only 40K miles. And once the new engine was put in, it made it a whole week before it started leaking oil like crazy. I told the poor lady who bought it from me about all the problems I knew it had, and gave her all the paperwork from all the repairs Id had to make, but she called me the next day to ask for her money back because it started in with a new electrical problem. Horrible car.

MANY MANY RECALLS. SMALL ANNOYANCES SUCH AS WINDOW OFF TRACK, EXHAUST MANIFOLD GASKET FAILURE, TRANS FAILURE AT 32,OOO MILES, TRIM PIECES FALL OFF. THEN TO ADD INSULT TO INJURY, MY FORD DEALER OFFERS 4250.00 AS TRADE VALUE ON NEW MUSTANG. THAT IS 278.00 PER MONTH DEPRECIATION. GOING TO HONDA OR TOYOTA. I HAVE NEVER OWNED A NON U.S. BUILT CAR.

This is just a bad car. I bought brand new in 2000. The first two years I spent more time getting recalls done then driving. Then at about 100k miles the car fell apaprt. New clutch, front springs broke, battery, battery cables, battery itself, ac, heater, alternator, the list goes on. Ive spent over 6k in the past two years trying to keep this car on the road. Please dont buy an early mondel focus. It will just be a money pit.

  • Piece o junk - 2000 Ford Focus

Heres a partial list in order of importance: cruise control (3 times), Horn (twice), water pump exploding ($350), on-board computer system ($750), engine lights consistently staying on keeping me from passing emissions ($1000) and the worst of them all: the engine mounts breaking and my engine falling out! This ran me another $1,000. Also, I had two minor wrecks at less than 15 MPH. The damage due to those was amazing as the shoddy workmanship really showed. I couldnt have made a worse choice than the Focus.

Just bought this Ford Focus, and so far am quite impressed. I have already replaced the ignition coil pack, a simple 1 hour repair. Has a 140,500 miles on it, and still runs strong for a 4 cylinder. This is my first car, and so far, for the 1000 dollars I spent, (including purchase price, and the coil pack.)I am pretty happy. Car is quite and runs smooth. Good gas mileage, and very fun to drive.

  • Im glad to be rid of it. - 2000 Ford Focus

After taking our car in for all the recalls, and not being able to get the gear shifter repaired, because we were told that there was nothing wrong with it. I will say that I took the car to a small town Ford Dealer/Service Dept. and after removing the entire dash the A/C finally worked on hot days. Im just glad to be rid of it.

  • cool car very bad quality - 2000 Ford Focus

it could have been really cool car - fun to drive and roomy, but the quality is so bad. I had 10 recalls done, fuel pump, a/c, brakes, noises...you name it...cant wait to get rid of it.

  • Great until it hits 50k miles - 2000 Ford Focus
    By -

Bought this car in 2005 with 48k miles, now has 90k. Got great gas mileage up until about a year ago (avg 32 mpg mixed), now gets 22-24. Auto trans may be dying shifting is labored. Have had to replace ignition lock (50k miles), coil (55k), a drum brake (65k--some kind of part that held it together WENT MISSING and the shoe was scraping the drum), motor mount (85k). Have had to put way too much money into this car since I got it, $1000+ for things that shouldnt break. Very concerned about the poor gas mileage lately mechanics cant figure it out. Have had fuel system flushed but no change. Back bumper also lost a screw and is sagging. Looking for a Civic or Corolla now.
