  • Fun car but lots of problems! - 2000 Ford Focus

I purchased this car used 2 years ago. I love the look and feel of my car but Ive had to totally replace the air conditioning as well as 2 of the power windows. Now my key will not go into the ignition and from everything Ive been reading this is a common problem. I dont feel safe driving a car that may leave me stranded somewhere. I hate to get rid of it because its really good on gas and very nice looking. :-(

This car is garbage. There is the list of problems during the past 30 months, (Ouf, I sold the car last week). 1. Rear wheels bearings,(3 times) 2. Master cylinder, (2 times) 3. Water inside the car, (2 times) 4. Fuel gauge. 5. Front disc replacement at 20 km 6. Rattles in console 7. 4 doors hinges replacement. 8. 6 recalls. 9. Rust on the rear trunk. 10. Rattles on the rear suspension. 11. Anti pollution system failure. 12. Water in the front lights. etc, etc ...

  • Its been good to us - 2000 Ford Focus

Car is fun to drive, handles very well plenty of power (if you rev the heck out of it). The hatchback design is very useful. My son wrecked at 2 months and came very close to a total wreck, but it was fixed in the dealership body shop and weve put 135,000 miles on it since. No injuries, the car will take a heck of a whack. Weve had a few problems, most attributable to damage from the wreck that wasnt caught (except for the drive train most of the front end, suspension included, was replaced) Fuel use is 28-32 mpg average about 30. I realize some people have had a lot of trouble with these cars, but not us! One of the best weve owned.

  • Dont do it! - 2000 Ford Focus

I recently destroyed my 2000 Toyota Echo ... nothing ever went wrong with that car, I just was an idiot and crashed it. I had to buy a new car and immediately fell in love with my 2000 Kona Edition Ford Focus ZX3. I thought it was an upgrade from my Echo: power windows, power door locks, good sound, good pick up ... definitely a downgrade. Ignition doesnt release key all the time. Recall on fuel pump which before fixed caused engine to stall at 70mph on busy California freeway. Small plastic piece on window regulator broke window taped up. Check engine light on & transmission problems. Grinding brakes all the time. Turn radio down and volume goes up ... list goes on and on.

  • Ford Focus ZX3 Mediocre Car - 2000 Ford Focus

The car is awful on gas, it currently leaks oil at 86000 KMs. It has its share of noises, but in the end it is reliable. Considering my 2000 Neon had bad spark plugs, broken springs, a rebuilt transmission, a new radiator and also leaked oil by the time it was 3 years old ... I cant complain. I love the little bubble design, which allows taller people to fit comfortably height-wise. The Zetec engine has enough power for its size, but mind you its no racing machine. Finally, I cant stand how Ford has recalls that state "we will only pay if you know that this is the exact cause"... either you will replace a part that has been causing problems for Focuses or you wont.

  • Better Car than most in class - 2000 Ford Focus

Owned mine since new in 2000. Other than recalls that I think are positive, Ive had a few minor repairs except for a transmission cylinder. Replaced front rotors at 50,000 miles of mostly city driving. Much less problems than 2 VWs Ive owned but more than the Toyotas. But then again I only paid $13,500 new.

  • So far so good - 2000 Ford Focus

I was a little sceptical about owning the 2000 Ford Focus SE (5spd Dohc), a debute car, but so far it has proved me wrong. Aside from the pesky recalls and affordable maintenance the car has been a very practical and fun ride.

  • Check Engine Light - 2000 Ford Focus

We have had this vehicle in the shop 10 or more times since we purchased it. All for the Check Engine light. They have replace everything, The last time it was in the shop for almost 2 months, They told us the engine needed to be replaced and then they replace the values on cylinder 3. We pick up the car and within 2 days the check engine light came on again. Then they told us the values on cylinder 2 need to be replaced. We like the car but this problem we are having doesnt seam to go away for long.

  • Nice But Also Irritating - 2000 Ford Focus

Back window motors needed to be replaced twice under warranty. After the warranty expired both back window motors broke AGAIN and the windows dropped into the back doors. They are now held up with tape. Get this ... it will cost $400 per door/window to replace. Ford doesnt care, its out of warranty. Crazy. I cant leave anything of any value in the car since the car cant be locked. I refuse to pay $800 for this problem! Its their problem. Other than that I love the car.

  • So so car - 2000 Ford Focus

I have owned this car for about 2 1/2 years, and I would have to say I have had my share of problems. A few months after I got it, I was left stranded because it just wouldnt start (only clicked). After replacing the solenoid at 30k miles the car did ok. The tires seem to wear down quicker then any other car Ive had. About a year went by with no problems then I got a transmission leak at 55k miles. Cant forget about all the recalls including the fuel pump that died on me as well. Also about a month ago the ignition decided to lock up, leaving me stranded again. And just the other day my alternator went which cost $350. Besides that, the car isnt too bad. I would recommend a newer model.
