  • Surprisingly poor quality car - 2000 Ford Focus

I bought a 2000 Focus Wagon SE in January 2001. Since then weve only done about 14k in it but it has been to the dealership about a dozen times. Things break and fall off, and weve had nasty vibration from the wheels, most noticeably during braking, ever since they rotated the tires, despite re-rerotating and re-balancing somewhere else at my own cost. Now I just got another recall notice. Very disappointed, wont be buying a ford again. Only reason I havent got rid of it is the resale value is way less than what I owe.

This car is great! I got it as a graduation gift and drive it every where. It is almost four years old and I am about to roll over to 100,000 miles! I intend to drive this car until it falls apart, and with the way it is going it will be a while before that happens! I cannot say enough about the great size and handling of this car. It is so fun to drive and I get compliments on it all the time. I definitely will stay in the focus family when I decide to get something new!

For the first time in my life I am never going to buy another Ford product. The dealership at one point had my car for 2 straight weeks. They even broke the windshield!! The most recent problem was the fuel pump was replaced. The rear bearings/moldings/seat latch/front stabalizer bushings twice...Now from researching the Internet it seems as if the brakes are an issue. After typing this I am going out to take the wheels off! I am told in secret by a dealership source that the Focus is a major problem. If there were limited problems with the car I would think that it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. Only I think its closer to burnt toast.

Sad, but the Focus really soured me on all Fords. What hasnt gone wrong on this car? Despite the recalls just since Ive had it, the $2400 transmission put in at 70K, the extra $1000 it will take for MORE O2 sensors, fuel gauge sensor, etc. and the additional $1,000 Ive put in since Ive had it (if you add it all up, its about what the trade in is worth), Ive had it with this car. Once one thing goes, everything goes.

Ive had good luck with my 2000 Focus ZX3, aside from 4 or 5 recall notices. Recalls are annoying, but none of the problems actually occurred with my car. Other than recalls, I havent had to take the car back to the dealership.

Fuel pump has gone out more times than I can count. Electrical everything goes out more times than Heinz has ketchup...good luck to anyone who buys one of these damn things! Get a good warranty.

  • A great car - 2000 Ford Focus

i have driven mine 45,000 miles and replaced only the brakes. people who complain about recalls evidentally are idiots who didnt know what to expect when purchasing a car the first year it was made. the car is more dependable than i could have imagined.

  • Mixed feelings - 2000 Ford Focus

I bought this car new. In the 3 years (27,500 mls) Ive had it, its been more trouble than my 10 yr old Honda (+200,000 mls). Things that should work for a certain amount of time dont. The latest is the rear power window. The mechanism failed and now needs to be replace. This is just 3 weeks AFTER the wrnty expired. Ive also had to bring it back for recalls - wipers and backseat latch. The stereo was replace too. On the other hand it is fun to drive. I love all the cargo room with the back seat down. Its easy to manuever, and it has some zip to it. Its cute and good back seat leg room. Wont buy another, but remember you get what you pay for.

  • Zippy, Fun But Extremely Frustrating - 2000 Ford Focus
    By -

Loved car when bought. Still like it, but tired of quirky surprises! Had a cracked AC line 6 months after purchase. It was at dlrshp 3 mths waiting for for the part to come in. Many recalls. Most recent on fuel pump. Car cant be started to move just couple of feet in driveway or critical valve sticks and car wont restart. Dlr says drive around block to avoid problem. Prblm with wires in steering column caused exterior light failure on 2 diff. occasions. Brakes(rotors too) had to be replaced. Crz cntrl would not remain engaged; had to be repaired. Ignition swtch went bad, key would not go into the ignition. Many rpr bills while still making car pymts!
