  • Ford Unfocused - Another Defect - 2000 Ford Focus

On April 4, 2002, I parked my Focus in the Hospital parking structure. When I returned after work to leave, my ignition key would only go in half way. Locksmith repleace ignition lock / key. When I went to Enterprise Car Rental Agency, I was told that this has been an on going problem with their Ford Focus rental car fleet. When the locksmith commented that this is a common problem with the Focus and he has done 100’s of them. When I contacted the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration I was told Ford has issued technical service bulletins regarding this problem.

I bought the Focus for my daughter and drove it 850 miles to deliver it to her. Although I usually drive very large cars, it was very comfortable for a small car. Like all new models there were several recalls, but the car has done very well in the past 2 years. Its had none of the problems that Ive read about in the other reviews, except for a brake problem that was fixed under warranty. Its been a very good car.

  • Fix Or Repair Daily / Found On Road Dead - 2000 Ford Focus

I purchased the 2000 Focus SE Wagon used Jan, 2002 with 4525 miles and had it 2 months. The car was in the shop more than I can enjoy it. Besides the recalls I had the headlamps replaced, Rear license plate bulb and gasket,Fuel gague didnt work: replaced the fuel pump and sending unit to get the gague to work, Power steering pump leaked, serptine belt made noise, transmission leaked, windshield washer fluid leaked out the top when driving around: (check Yours),the dealer replaced the reserviour and the cap. The dealer told me that it was overfilled. DUH! This will be my first and last Ford. Found On Road Dead, Fix Or Repair Daily, Driver Returns On Foot (Ford Reversed)

  • Not for the long haul - 2000 Ford Focus

This was my first car ever, and it will be my last Ford. Looks cute and is fun to drive, but quality is poor. Stuff keeps breaking: clutch master cylinder (at 20K), ignition switch (stranded at 40K; not fun), brakes (at 45K), cd player/radio cuts off for no reason (even after being sent for fixing), leaky radiator (66K), wiper speed is never right, makes weird crunching noise over speed bumps, brakes always squeaky! Plus, dealership service is not helpful. Takes forever to get recalls fixed, sometimes they dont even order the parts. I cant wait to get rid of this thing and would not recommend the Ford Focus to anyone.

  • Worst Car Experience Ever - 2000 Ford Focus
    By -

When I buy a new car, I expect reliabilty and I havent had that in the 3 years I had it. Its spent a significant portion of its life in the shop for either Ford recalls or engine problems of its own. At 20K miles, a new transmission was needed. I contacted a lemon law attorney, but never had the time to pursue my case. I will never buy American again.

You get a lot of bang for your buck out of this car. As fun (or more) to drive as some cars selling for twice this price. An incredible little car!

  • Recall Car of the Year - 2000 Ford Focus
    By -

Fails to meet all the hype of car of the year. The numerous recalls took all the fun out of driving a fairly progressive vehicle design (among domestics).

  • Dont do it! - 2000 Ford Focus
    By -

I have had nothing but trouble with the Focus and the various Ford dealerships I have encountered when getting repairs. From the tons of recalls to the cars susceptibility to be knocked out of alignment, this car is a pain. On the up side, it looks good and recently I was rear-ended and the bumper was not all smashed up. Other than that, this car is not worth the money, and I paid 15,000 for it. WELL over what it was ever worth!

  • Best Car ever - 2000 Ford Focus

I love my ford focus. It has almost 95000 miles on her and is still purring like a kitten. Will definately buy another focus!
