Bought the car in 2000. Windshield broke in 5 months. Brakes and tires have always been bad, needing to be changed every 15 to 20 thousand miles. Replaced rotors, calipers, ignition and a tune-up was done at 35,000 miles. The Focus would be a great car if it worked properly, or if at least the dealer/manufacturer would take care of common problems.

I commute 145 miles a day in 5 years it has never left me stranded. Replaced brakes once at 190K. No major repairs. ZTEC engine, 5 speed manual transmission. By slowing down from 80 to 75 MPH, mileage went from 30 to 34 mpg. Would I buy another FORD, you bet.

leasing our 2000 ford focus since may of 2000 has 27000 miles on it and has been in the shop more than I can say. We live in the northeast and every time it rains I find 6" of water on passager side floor have had rug replaced 5 times. Not to mention the numerous recalls. WE decided to change the o in FOCUS to another u BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT FORD DID WHEN THEN MADE THIS PIECE OF CRAP.

Ive had my Focus since I bought it new in 2000. Unless you really cant afford otherwise, I dont think that I would recommend it. Maybe I got a lemon, but every problem Ive seen on this site, Ive had, and its only got 36,000 on it (after 5 years!). Lots of recalls, but major mechanical problems (heating core, trans, various bizarre coils and tubes and valves). You really dont save that much on the sticker after all of the repairs. Also, it was fast & fun to drive for the first two years, then consistently idled high, was sluggish and generally seems to be dying, despite going in for repairs once a month these days. Ford service (especially dealers) is abysmal. Sad part is that Im attached to it.

  • I like it, but I wont get another one. - 2000 Ford Focus

I bought this car after a deployment to Germany, where I got the chance to drive a Focus on the Autobahn. German model had a Turbo-diesel and four wheel disks, which arent available here but made the highspeed rocket ride more controlable and economic-topped out at 220 km/Hr, approx 140 MPH. Great car! Mine makes noises when going over dips and bumps in the road. There is also a "clicking" noise that comes from the gear box while idling in neutral. Ford build quality leaves much to be desired, and even though I like the Focus I wont get another one.Its still a fun car, fair to good all around. Good stereo, but alas not the best of the Xplode line either.

  • 43000 miles report - 2000 Ford Focus

I got my car in June 2000 when it had only 11 miles. I’ve had good mileage since day one, and it has remained around 31 to 32 mpg. Besides about 5 recalls it got and a couple of fixes under warranty, it has been virtually maintenance free. Total operation cost in 2.5 years is $10620 with 43000 miles. Cost per mile is just less than 25 cents! If you want to know how I get those number, check out Town Hall under Ford Focus ZX3 #2367.

This is the worst car Ive ever owned from a quality standpoint. 8 recalls. Had the a/c compressor replaced, three weeks later the evaporator coil had to be replaced. The transmission leaked and had to take it back 3 times to get it fixed by the worlds sorriest excuse for a service department. Realized several months after the a/c evaporator was replaced the heat didnt blow out of the floor vents anymore- dealer didnt hook back up correctly and then didnt want to take responsibility. Front drive hubs replaced at 38,000 mi.

  • A Big Let Down - 2000 Ford Focus

When we bought this car, it seemed to have so many great features for an affordable price. However, not two months into it and with a brand new baby riding in it, the mechanical flaws rared their ugly heads. It seemed atleast once a month their was a recall on something mechanically vital or something would just not work, for example the key wouldnt come out of the ignition one day. Turns out the ignition was faulty and recalled. A year later, the key wouldnt go into the ignition. Turns out that ignition had been recalled too. It was fun at first, but after a couple of thousand miles, it just really starts to suck.

Minor and annoying repairs - lights on radio keyboard died in 1st year...doors squeek...needed a complete brake job at 24,500 miles...ashtray must be closed to use the lighter [warning for smokers who are also trying to charge their cell phone.

My 1st new car was a complete lemon. The dealership didnt help matters involving multiple engine problems even going as far as saying I just did not drive it enough.
