  • Avoid at all cost - 2000 Ford Focus

I purchased my Focus in 2001 with 33,000 miles and had no problems for the first 6 months from then on its been down hill. Recall on the rear wheel bearings, recall on the battery cable that also blew my alternator and battery, all 4 power window mechanisms have broken ($500), the brake job cost $500 because you have to get new rotors EVERY TIME -- they cant be machined, the cooling system needed extensive repair ($2000-$3000), the electrical control for the air conditioner broke ($379), the CD player broke, havent gotten that repaired yet, the ignition cylinder locked closed so I couldnt put the key in -- $1000 plus tow, and the trunk lock broke ($700). To make it short, over $7,000 in repairs thus far.

  • Nice Car with some problems - 2000 Ford Focus

Im a first-time buyer and I purchased this car used. Within the 1st month, water kept fogging up the headlights (dealer wanted to charge me $300). Ive had to replace the brakes twice in 2 years, and the brake pedal squeaks (loudly), had two recalls, and it rattles, and it produces too much brake dust. The interior side panel broke already and the latch on the passenger seat broke so you cant adjust seating anymore. While some of these problems can be rather annoying, I still love the car. I broke the family tradition of buying only Japanese cars when I got this one.

  • Great Car, Great Sound - 2000 Ford Focus

I have owned my Sony Focus for 5 years. It has been a great little car - very zippy with a great sound system! Bought really good piped tires after the originals wore out - now its even better. Mileage is easily over 30 mpg. When deciding whether or not to buy out my lease, the only factor for me was the price!

Never had a problem with the car. Though I have received 7 recalls that were repaired. Average 26 mpg/33 mpg highway. Could use about 30 more hp. Car is tight and quick to respond. Fun to drive but does have too much road noise making normal conversations at 65 mph difficult.

  • Cant hear you over the brake squeal - 2000 Ford Focus

I was called in for every possible recall except the most irritating one, brakes. At 20,000 the pads had to be replaced. At 41,000 the pads, calipers, and rotors went. The following day I bought a Honda Civic LS. I will not own a Ford again because they did not stand behind their product.

  • DO NOT BUY!!! - 2000 Ford Focus
    By -

I bought this car with 13,000 miles on it. At first it seemed to be just what I was looking for. Then 6 months later, I had an accident going 25 miles an hour (I couldnt stop the car in time), the air bags deployed and destroyed the dash area of my car. It cost my insurance company $3000 to fix everything. Right after that, I had to have my brakes changed as they were completely gone. MMM..wonder if thats why I couldnt stop the car during the accident?? My ignition switch went out this year and now my starter also had to be replaced. I also found out about a recall on the rear bearings. Whats next?? I just dont feel safe in this car anymore.

  • I keep having a bad feeling... - 2000 Ford Focus

I initially really liked my car, even after a few months when I had to replace the brakes, I still liked my car. Well now, 5 recalls, 3 brake replacements and an ignition cylinder replacemnt, I now hate my car. I keep having a bad feeling that things are just going to keep going wrong.

Focus started to have problems last year, around 70,000 miles. Automatic door lock wont work. Passenger door wont unlock anymore. Have to crawl over the drivers seat. Tumbler locked up ignition a couple of weeks ago. New ignition: $320! I like the car. But its been having major problems now.

  • leaking coolant - 2000 Ford Focus
    By -

Leaking coolant after 33,000 miles dealer replaced water pump twice. At 65,000 miles again leaking coolant per dealer diagnosis thermostat housing froze and leaked. This ruined water pump. Dealer changed water pump, again twice. This suggested that quality of parts are bad. All total this car has had 5 water pumps for the first 65,000 miles. Car was taken to independent mechanic. After more tests to find cause of loosing coolant, it was determined that coolant was passing to cylinder and head repair has to be done. This problem is in addition to transmission electronic component failing, rear window not working, and the rough idling causing vibration.
