This Year's Model Updates:

Changes are minimal on the 2007 Ford Focus. All CD players are now MP3-compatible, and models with the optional CD changer automatically get audio controls on the steering wheel. Optional on SE and SES trim levels is a new interior upgrade package with two-tone leather seats and satin metallic interior trim. You can also get the leather seats as a stand-alone extra. Additionally, the ST sedan and all SE and SES sedans and hatchbacks are eligible for the Street Appearance Package, which provides special exterior trim and a polished exhaust outlet. Powertrain warranty coverage is extended to 5 years/100,000 miles as of July 2006.

Pros:
  • Plush ride quality, responsive steering, comfortable seats front and rear, simple controls, four body styles to choose from.
Cons:
  • Sloppy fit and finish, low-grade plastic trim in cabin, inadequate storage and cupholders, no rear head restraints or side curtain airbags, 2.3-liter engine limited to ST sedan.

  • Pleased - 2007 Ford Focus

I purchased an 06 SE on July 29 and totaled the car on August 2 via a driver pulling out in front on me. The outside of my car was completely smashed starting on the front left. The inside remained almost unimpacted minus the airbag debris. While I could afford a higher ticket car, I am completely confident and pleased with Fords Focus. I purchased a 07 SES a month ago and am completely satisfied thus far.

On the good side, this car is still running at 190,000 mi., but not without a ton of repairs. Parts are expensive. Most costly repairs so far was a bad steering column and air bag. Also noticed some design issues that make me wonder if the engineers intentionally made it difficult to work on. I used to be a believer in Ford, but not any more.

  • Great value in a small car, - 2007 Ford Focus

When gas prices looked like they wouldnt be headed below $3 per gallon last summer, I started looking for a more fuel-efficient car to replace my Saturn VUE. In the past year, Ive had opportunities to drive several small cars (Focus, Civic, Mazda3) and midsizers (Fusion, Mazda6, Accord, G6, Maxima). In my book, the Focus and Mazda3 were at the top of the list where driving dynamics are concerned. Since Im 63" tall, head and leg room are big considerations in a small car - - and the Focus fit me better than any other in the class. Add to that the incentives on the Focus and the fact that I live in a state (MI) thats rather dependent on Fords business success, and the choice is made.

I own a 2006 Focus, and previously owned a 2001. I drive two 2005 Corollas as fleet cars at work, and must say that I consider the Focuses better in absolutely every respect: fit and finish, handling, interior design -- in every way. I do not know where automotive writers get their biases from.

I will never buy another ford focus. What a piece of junk. Never have I seen so much plastic on a car. At 40k miles the automatic door lock for the drivers side breaks. Cost to fix? $250. At not even 50k miles the thermostat gives up. The thermostat and housing are one piece. Cost to fix? approx $300 (the part is about $100 and the coolant is replaced). The labor costs more than the part. Now the car has a coolant leak (at 59k miles) and I figure its the water pump. I dont even want to know what that is going to cost. The car is a dog in hot weather with more than one person in it and it slogs along with the AC on. Dont even try to climb hills in hot weather. If 99% of your driving is around town and you only need basic transportation (around town) and you are the only one driving it then its ok. If you want to take friends somewhere that involve climbing hills forget it and have someone else drive. Make sure you have roadside assistance with your insurance because you will need it sooner or later. This car makes me wonder if I just bought a bad year for the Focus because I rented one before and was pleased, but then again those were low mileage cars. If you buy a Focus make sure you thoroughly test drive the car and do some research. Better yet spend the extra money and buy a Japanese car. Chances are you will get 80k miles on the car before you have a problem. The bad thing about newer cars is it is hard to work on them yourself and save the money because they have transverse mounted engines. I used to own a Datsun 510 and I did all the work myself. It was easy. Not anymore.

  • Fun Sedan! - 2007 Ford Focus

This car is fun, safe and easy to drive. I had a 2005 Focus and was in a head-on collision recently. The accident totaled my Focus, but I survived (great seatbelt & airbags) and purchased a 2007 Focus. This time I went a series up and I love it!

  • Id buy it AGAIN in a HEARTBEAT! - 2007 Ford Focus

Ive owned "Sammy" for 8 years and now he has 207,000. I never dreamed Id own another Ford after my last one, but after reading over 600 reviews, Im so glad I bought it. Over the years Ive had no problems outside of the normal-- tires, battery, brakes. Repair visits were much cheaper and far more infrequent than my Nissan Altima. Problems right now are mounting, however, as the car ages. The back passenger door hasnt locked for the last few years and now the front door has to be locked manually. Turning the vent/defrost dial is becoming more difficult. The CD player went out a while ago, so I just listen to the radio. Theres squeaking in the back passenger side that goes away when its cold. However, when its cold, I have to wait a long time for the gas pedal to unfreeze and the reason Im giving up the car this weekend is that its cutting out now in traffic in cold weather.

With the ST 2.3 liter getting 26 m.p.g. city/some hwy. Very good performance. I think interior is very good. Has lots of extras for comfort. Compared to my stolen Jeep Liberty, it drives like a sports car. Stick shift is easy, saves gas, weight, and mechanical complexity.

This car has been nothing but problems since new. It eats tires fast no cam camber adjustment on the rear wheels. The A/C quit working at 50k. The alternator has been replaced twice. The transmission had to be replaced. Need to remove bumper cover to replace headlamps. The cable for the hvac blend door had to be replaced. The A/C compressor had to be replaced. The center arm rest is caving in. The trunk wont close properly. Rear main seal leak. This car is horrible for winter driving even with blizzack snow tires. This will be my first and last ford.

  • Focused on Focus - 2007 Ford Focus

Just purchased a 2007 Focus SE four door 1000 miles ago. The Focus is a very agile and comfortable and fun vehicle to drive. Very stable on the highway and on turns and curves. We are averaging 27-28 mpg city driving and 35-37 mpg on the highway. Seats are very comfortable for these two senior citizens. Lots of trunk and cargo area. The styling on these focuses are superior to any I have test drove or looked at. The 4 cyl engine has plenty of get and go and you will be driving at 75 mph and not even realize it. Very good acceleration. Very good braking action and stopping distances. Interior is laid very well placed.
