  • Great Car... If parts would stop failing - 2000 Ford Focus

The car is great... i love the way it looks drives and handles. The fold down rear seats provide oodles of storage space when you need it... However, i too have been to the ford dealership a little to often for my tastes. Everything has been covered by the warranty but i bought a new car so i wouldnt have to worry about the problems. However, i know my service guy really well now.

  • I guess I got a good one - 2000 Ford Focus

165,000 miles and its only now starting to have problems. I was a victim of the frozen ignition thing - if its giving sticky warning signs, heed them! The timing belt isnt due until some ridiculous mileage, mine went at 155,000. If you are planning to keep the car long term, change it before Ford advises. No leaks of any kind, so far. I am a painter and have loved how much stuff I could cram in the back and still be able to park it in San Francisco, and the gas mileage is great. If you are looking at this used, try and find one where you can research the service history, I guess. Im going to try and take this one to 200,000 miles.

  • Fun little car - 2000 Ford Focus

Ford built a fun little car. Only problem after 36,000 miles is the annoying transmission squeal driving at speeds between 63 and 69 miles per hour. Dealer says this is a design flaw and completely unfixable. Which leaves me driving either over or under the speed limit on my daily freeway commute to work. This squeal could be a contributing factor in road rage.

  • FOCUS = Fix Or Curse Until Stolen - 2000 Ford Focus

This car is an absolute piece of garbage. I got it as a commuter car for nothing but highway driving. I drive 60 miles a day at 65 in a straight line. Where do I begin to describe the problems? The interior is cheap and flimsy. The radio dial literally melts in high heat. The car feels like it will fall apart at 65. Awful road noise. The seats seem to consist of a cloth, cardboard, and styrofoam mixture. Reliability is terrible. I had it in the shop for routine mechanical and electrical problems every 6 months. It once shut off on a highway, literally turning off at 60 mph. Do not, under any circumstances, buy this car. Spend the extra money on a civic and save on repairs.

  • Way more fun than a Toyota Corolla - 2000 Ford Focus
    By -

I bought this car brand new, and have owned it for almost eight years. Its been a blast to drive and way, way more reliable than my previous car (Toyota Corolla). Only major complaint was an ignition lock problem in year seven, which by then was out of warranty and cost $250 to replace. Being a 1st year model it had a few recalls but they were fixed quick, free, and easy. Fuel economy (23 city, 33 highway) was a little lower than expected. Handling was a MAJOR positive surprise. Braking fine, replaced once at 51K. Front and Rear headroom impressive - a friend who is 63" fits in the back seat with no complaints... and he even works for GM. 5-speed manual shifts fine, clutch is a breeze.

  • Problems and More Problems - 2000 Ford Focus

Continued visits to the service department. This was the first model year for the Focus and it shows with the continued problems at only 30,000 miles.

  • Give me a brake! - 2000 Ford Focus
    By -

Have had no problems with Focus since new until 24K service where I find that my front brakes and rotors are history! I have noticed brake dust on the front wheel covers of all focuses (Foci?) this is a major problem and makes me realize that this is the last of the breed that I will purchase

  • Not going to buy another - 2000 Ford Focus

My wife loved the car for about a year and a half. Until all the problems. We ruined the rotors at about 15k miles. I guess that is my fault for not checking the brakes, but I have never had a car that ran through breaks before 30k. Since that we have had well over $2000 in the car in three years. It has left my wife stranded twice(which sealed the deal). Currently, it is still not running. Its not starting sometimes. We will see how much this one costs. I have a total of 60k mi. Mostly highway. Since replacing brakepads, they have lasted well over 40k mi. Many of the problems that I have had, are also happening on my fathers Winstar.

  • Steer Clear! Lemon Alert!!!! - 2000 Ford Focus

Experience uncooperative dealers, and months in court litigating this Hecho in Mexico Focus! Motor blew with 619 miles on it, 3 fuels pumps, trim falls off, door locks broken, and eight recalls! Quality is NOT job one anymore! Not reliable, and I dont trust this car anymore.

  • Great so far - 2000 Ford Focus
    By -

Great performance, trend-setting styling for low price are the selling points on this one. It blows away the Civic, Corolla, Echo, Sentra, Protege, or anything else in its class. Weve personally had no reliability problems for 45,000 miles other than some squeaky brakes that Ford replaced for free and a few recalls. Others have had mixed experiences, but I cant say theres anything about this car that has disappointed me.
