This Year's Model Updates:

Power output is improved for both Triton V8 engines on Ford's full-size sport-ute. Package content is added for both XLT and Eddie Bauer trim levels. Power-adjustable accelerator and brake pedals have been added. An updated Command Trac four-wheel-drive system allows automatic four-wheel-drive operation when required. Spruce Green, Harvest Gold, Tropic Green and Deep Wedgewood Blue replace Light Prairie Tan, Vermont Green, Light Denim Blue and Pacific Green on the color chart.

Pros:
  • Big, comfortable, and easy to drive. Good off-road, too.
Cons:
  • If you can reduce your seating needs by one (from nine to eight) the Dodge Durango is less expensive and easier to maneuver.

  • VERY SATISFIED - 1999 Ford Expedition
    By -

Bought it new for my wife. She owns a business that requires hauling heavy AV equipment and much travel. It has been a great vehicle. Needed its first tune- up at 96,000 miles. It is very comfortable and the leather seats have held up well. We have taken many vacations with it and the entire family (of four) loves the ride. Just had to replace the alternator and battery (at 117,000 miles). The paint job (Metallic Spruce Green) looks great for a vehicle that has never been garaged. Only problem has been with the odometer. Since about 5,000 miles, it comes on and goes off and when trying to keep track of the business mileage, this becomes a nuisance.

  • Been very good to me - 1999 Ford Expedition

My expedition has been a very reliable and outstanding vehicle for me. I have had little to no problems short of basic maintenance. I will own another one of these fine vehicles.

  • Pampered Eddie Bauer - 1999 Ford Expedition
    By -

Pampered but still big ticket repairs. $1000 for ventilation problem. New transmission at 125,000 miles, and now it needs a head gasket, $2500 quote. Heated seat stopped working at 60k. CD player has problems on and off. Love the ride and feel but do not plan on fixing or buying another. Honda here I come!

  • Just Keeps Running - 1999 Ford Expedition
    By -

Purchased new, this Expedition just keeps running. With over 70K miles on it, we have never had a problem. It rides fine for the truck that it is, has nice features, but best of all it never fails to start or run perfectly.

The overall experience with my Eddie Bauer Expedition has been very good. I purchased the vehicle new nearly six years ago and it has delivered dependable and comfortable service. Having always been a GM man, I wouldnt hesitate to buy another Expedition.

  • I LUV THIS SUV! - 1999 Ford Expedition
    By -

I have had this SUV for 2 1/2 years. I love it. As long as I can afford the gas, Ill keep it. It is so comfortable for me and my large family.

  • Head Gaskets should be a recall item - 1999 Ford Expedition
    By -

I bought my rig new and loved it until the warranty ran out. New power steering pump at 38,000 miles, would not come out of 4WD because of bad switch, then the big one at 60,000 miles - head gaskets went bad. $1,800 repair, new Ford parts and now - leaking again! Heard of several that have had this happen but Ford claims no knowledge of the problem and we are stuck. Fuel mileage lousy, 14 mph on highway and about 11 in city. Good power for towing with 5.4 engine. Love the ride, room, 3rd seat. Been a Ford driver all my life but will be hesitant to continue with the quality issues.

  • Great so far - 1999 Ford Expedition

I hate driving trucks, but got this thing anyway. And Im impressed. Note that my rating is relative to other trucks -- I drive a Continental normally, so these grades arent relative to it. For example, for a truck, my fuel economy rating is 9. Compared to the Continental, itd be about 4. See what I mean? As a 62" footer, Im comfortable. Power is so totally there, I dont know what the complaints are about -- and remember, Im used to a Continental. Im used to climate control -- set it and forget it. Itd be nice if it were standard on the truck this expensive (yeah, I could have looked harder). I replaced the stereo with a junkyard model with CD/cassette (2000 Explorer stereo).

  • Need I say more? - 1999 Ford Expedition
    By -

Well, weve had issues with our Expedition just as others have. Little things breaking down--rear windshield washer, cheap interior materials, heated seats and mirrors failing. For a $40K truck new, you wouldnt know it by the lack of quality. Frustrating to say the least. We will not be buying another Ford Product. Our 20 year old Toyota Landcruiser is much more reliable than this Expedition. Plus fuel mileage--even with a new fuel filter and dealer servicing, its around 10 city and 14 highway.
