This Year's Model Updates:

Ford's full-size SUV sports changes inside and out. Outside, the Expedition looks bigger and bolder. Some of its new styling cues, such as the egg-crate grille and raised hood, are from its little brother, the Explorer. Inside you'll find fold-flat second- and third-row seats, with a power-folding option for the third row. The second row is split-40/20/40 enabling the middle section to slide forward. The Eddie Bauer package has an in-dash six-disc changer (optional on the XLT) and steering wheel-mounted stereo and climate controls, as well as an optional DVD player, navigation system and heated-cooled seats.

But the big changes are the ones you can't readily see. Underneath the skin a double-wishbone independent rear suspension system and a rack and pinion steering configuration improve road handling. AdvanceTrac stability control, along with ControlTrac four-wheel-drive system and an increased width of 1.7 inches should help keep the rubber down and the shiny side up.

Pros:
  • Excellent interior design and comfort, wide-ranging versatility, impressive hauling capabilities, improved handling abilities, great crash test scores.
Cons:
  • Slow when loaded down, drives as big as it looks, stability control only available on high-line models.

What I liked the best about this SUV is the new disigned exterior. Another important character is that you could customize the truck without damaging the apperiance of the SUV.

I am spoiled by my car. I love the new look of the 2003, the a/c seats, the dvd player, and the easy steering. It has more luxuries that I didnt know I needed. :) Very happy. Jenny

  • Never Thought Id Buy a Ford - 2003 Ford Expedition

When it came time to shop for a new SUV, I thought it would be a Toyota. While the Sequoia is a nice vehicle, it came down to the interior comfort and the cargo area versatility. The power-folding 3rd row seats simply cannot be beat. The interior is roomy and comfortable, the ride is nice, and while engine performance could be improved upon it is what I expected to get.

I bought my Expedition with 112,xxx miles on it and now has 130,xxx. I have not had any mechanical problems with it. The only 2 Problems I have had with it is the rear a/c makes a Clunking noise and the Paint on the back hatch started peeling off with is common my friend has a 2008 Expedition EL and hers is starting to bubble now to. I owned a 02 Mercury Mountaineer before this and the expedition beets it hands down. Feels much safer, and with being 16 years old my mom feels better about it to. Ride is very Smooth, parking is easy, driving is fun, I have been loooking to buy a new suv with less miles but have not found anything I like better, I will keep the expedition to good to give up!!!!

  • Great Truck, Extremely Comfortable - 2003 Ford Expedition
    By -

Bought this SUV new. Its been a great vehicle. Very comfortable and very reliable. No major repairs. Has over 102,000 miles and still original brakes. Not even a light bulb replaced. Not a good city car (just too big), but what a treat for road trips. Bought a new, smaller SUV this year and just couldnt bring ourselves to sell the Expedition. Hwy mileage not too bad driven reasonably. We average 16. Cant find a used one anywhere around where we live. If you have one, keep it! BTW, if you replace your tires do not buy the Goodyear Wrangler RT/S. Ride is terrible compared to the Continentals that came on it. Should have taken them back.

  • built ford tough - 2003 Ford Expedition

This truck is built for tough it tows a 9,000+ pound boat and trailer w/o any problems. Only have had one problem and that was a bad senor but besides that the truck has been nothing but great. Bought the truck with 44,000 miles and now it has 65,000 miles. The exterior has held up great and so has the interior with some wear on the front bottom of the leather seats but its not bad. Would defenitely but another expedition.

  • O3 Expedition - A Great Vehicle - 2003 Ford Expedition

I purchaed a 2003 4x4 XLT 5.4 on dec 31st of 2002. We have had the vehicle for around one month. I am extremely pleased so far. The truck handles like a vehicle half it size, it almost feels light. pressed hard into corners it has very little body roll. The build quilty is solid. Acceleration is good while braking is excellent, but the interior is really where this vehicle shines. It is massive, comforatble and extremely versatile. The fold flat 3rd row seat was the deciding factor over the Tahoe I was looking at. It puts the U in utility. If you are looking at full sized SUVs you owe it to yourself to give this truck a look - it is a gem.
