This Year's Model Updates:

Ford's full-size SUV sports changes inside and out. Outside, the Expedition looks bigger and bolder. Some of its new styling cues, such as the egg-crate grille and raised hood, are from its little brother, the Explorer. Inside you'll find fold-flat second- and third-row seats, with a power-folding option for the third row. The second row is split-40/20/40 enabling the middle section to slide forward. The Eddie Bauer package has an in-dash six-disc changer (optional on the XLT) and steering wheel-mounted stereo and climate controls, as well as an optional DVD player, navigation system and heated-cooled seats.

But the big changes are the ones you can't readily see. Underneath the skin a double-wishbone independent rear suspension system and a rack and pinion steering configuration improve road handling. AdvanceTrac stability control, along with ControlTrac four-wheel-drive system and an increased width of 1.7 inches should help keep the rubber down and the shiny side up.

Pros:
  • Excellent interior design and comfort, wide-ranging versatility, impressive hauling capabilities, improved handling abilities, great crash test scores.
Cons:
  • Slow when loaded down, drives as big as it looks, stability control only available on high-line models.

  • GM convert - 2003 Ford Expedition

After numerous repairs (all warranty) to our driveline, we finally bit the depreciation bullet and traded in our 2000 Yukon SLE. Generous Ford rebate softened the blow. Very pleased with the first year of ownership--quality, fit, finish & NVH are all excellent, contradicting what the automotive press says.

  • Another Domestic that cant compete - 2003 Ford Expedition

We love the features that the Eddie Bauer has: heated/cooled seats, etc. but so many problems: the back-up sensors failed, the paint has peeled in many places, the release cable for back lid failed, and many more. The mileage is terrible.

  • Great SUV - 2003 Ford Expedition

I am very pleased with my new loaded EB. No initial manufacturing flaws. Dealer was a great experience. This SUV is exactly what I expected. This vehicle is clearly in a class above Tahoes, Yukons, Sequoias and even Escalades. This SUV has many small but useful details that the others just dont have.

  • Awesome SUV - 2003 Ford Expedition

We have owned our Exoedition for 9 months now and we are extremely overjoyed with it, we have gone to Vegas, Reno, L.A. and other places. We have not had one rough or uncomfortable ride. We added some after market TVs (4) with a DVD player to make the trip more enjoyable for our kids. They also love their truck and would not trade it for anything at all.

  • Superb SUV - 2003 Ford Expedition

We love it! Smooth, quiet, well- controlled ride. Wonderful legroom throughout. Full of thoughtful features (for example, the stereo volume increases with speed). 3rd row space is awesome. All seats very comfortable. 2nd & 3rd rows fold flat - - no removal needed to accomodate cargo. Got ours for $8000 below MSRP (Dallas). Wife is primary driver and she is thrilled. Disclosure: no affiliation with Ford whatsoever.

  • Great Family Hauler - 2003 Ford Expedition
    By -

Our Expedition has done my family great over the last six years. It has survived three young children and a lot of driving vacations. It was a great family hauler with the fold flat third row, DVD system, and the heated and cooled front seats. Followed all recommended services done by dealer. Had problems with premature front tire wear until I took it to an independent tire shop to do alignment and balance every 5000. Interior rattles became a problem on rough roads after a few years of use. Gas mileage is bad around town, but better than expected on highway, as long as you go 65.

  • No more Ford - 2003 Ford Expedition

I bought it new, within four years of ownership I had several minor to major problems with the SUV. Air condition would "clunk" when you turn it on. Side mirrors always adjust when unlocking. Alternator gave out. the 3rd spark plug blew out. water would always leak into the vehicle on the driver side windshield handle area when it rains. now the radiator is loosing fluid somewhere. lots of front wheel brake dust.

Absolutely impressed with my truck.Looks much better than Escalade.Runs and rides smooth and quiet.Fit and finish is superb. No rattles, everything is solid.Has all the gadgets and all the gadgets work well.Sold my F-150 with 245,000(original engine, trans., and rear-end)to purchase 2003 Expedition.I think I have another great Ford on my hands.Sold 1988 F-150 for $3,500, still running great.Mechanic checked compression and said all of truck still great.Friend just traded in a 2001 Dodge with broken engine(for ANOTHER DODGE!)Suckers can have their Dodges.I want nothing but a Ford, thank you.A Chevy might do if Ford didnt exist.Thank God Ford does exist!

  • Its OK - 2003 Ford Expedition

When I purchased this car, I was so excited! But, the ignition gave me problems and Ford kept telling me nothing was wrong with it. Then, the interior headliner was rattling. They fixed it and it kept rattling at high speeds. Then the buttons to open the windows fell through the hole they were supposed to be secured in. Several years later, the DVD player wouldnt work and the CD player didnt work either. The brakes needed changing at 20,000 miles! OK, so we had a great deal of problems but I like this truck. However, I would not buy another one! I will buy a Honda or Toyota SUV next time when the economy is better.

  • 2003 Exp better than Yukon - 2003 Ford Expedition

I traded my 2001 Yukon for this large V8 SUV. I never felt comfortable backing up my YUKON. I can see behind me and around me much better in my Expedition.
