The Jeep/Eagle division was formed in 1988 shortly after Chrysler bought the American Motors Corporation in 1987.

At the time, Detroit brands like Chrysler were trying to fend off increasing sales by import brands with the creation of their own import-style sales divisions. Eagle began with the Renault-influenced products developed for AMC, the Eagle Premier and the Eagle Medallion. The rest of the division's portfolio was filled out by vehicles from Mitsubishi, the Japanese company that had long been Chrysler's partner in the importation of small, fuel-efficient vehicles.

Jeep sales gave some energy to the Eagle division, but once Chrysler broke off the sport-utility brand and made it available to its own dealers as the SUV boom began in the 1990s, the Eagle brand quickly foundered. Chrysler announced the end of the Eagle brand in November 1997 and the last Eagle Talon, a badge-engineered version of the Mitsubishi Eclipse, came off the assembly line shortly thereafter.

  • 9 years and still good - 1995 Eagle Talon

Ive owned about 10 cars before this one, and they all left me wanting for something or other. This car has been extremely satisfying and exactly what I wanted until now when its a little small for a family of four. Problems have been minor - a couple of recalls and a sensor but thats about it. Rate 10/10 in ownership experience.

Overall this has been a great car! While its not loaded with power, its still fun to drive, handles very well.

I Have a TSI AWD with 109,000 on it I bought the car in 08/03 and maybe four months later the Clutch Master Cylinder and slaves were replaced $600. The only annoying minor problem I have is the oil return line leaks coming from the turbo. For me gas milage sucks 16-18 mpg since due to upgraded fuel pump and T-28 Turbo along with a diffrent air intake with stock intercooler pipes removed , right now the top boost I can crank is 20lbs he he. Its will also be coming up on a timing belt and H2O Pump eeek. If your looking for something with affordable repairs decide carefully, but as with any car their is nothing certian....

178,000 miles and still has a load of ZIP!. Plus really decent fuel mileage, especially for the power it puts forth, Cmon 2Ls competing with 5.0 Fords! Word of warning though is for finding mechanics for anything really, everyone seems to not want to work on it in small towns, and when you do find a place that will... it will cost too much, so if you find one you like, check out the things you want first... ie:Air conditiong, etc...

  • If you can find one... buy it! - 1997 Eagle Vision

This car is great car in almost every area ecept for city gas mileage. Once it hits the highway you can expect around 30 - 35 mpg. Other than that one issue, I love mine. Lots of power, great looks, low maintenance costs and every feature imaginable for a car of this class.

  • Solid little car - 1990 Eagle Summit

Mine is getting up there in the milage department, but it still just rolls right along. Ive driven it pretty hard over the years and it has very seldom let me down. If you need a reliable set of wheels at a good price, a Summit would be an excellent choice.

first off i really do like my eagle esi.if it were not for the faulty electrical problems(corrrosion of major wires)and the never ceasing front end problems this car could be a high 9 in ratings.interior is roomy and comfortable.the 3.3 i have even at 163,000 miles + still has no loss in pickup.body has been solid and is just starting to show trunk lid rust.my big beef though has been with the front end components of the car.at 56000 mile i had to replace the rack and pinion components, the ball joints and connecting rods and struts.since then it has been 4 more complete sets of ball joints and tie rod ends.
