The Jeep/Eagle division was formed in 1988 shortly after Chrysler bought the American Motors Corporation in 1987.

At the time, Detroit brands like Chrysler were trying to fend off increasing sales by import brands with the creation of their own import-style sales divisions. Eagle began with the Renault-influenced products developed for AMC, the Eagle Premier and the Eagle Medallion. The rest of the division's portfolio was filled out by vehicles from Mitsubishi, the Japanese company that had long been Chrysler's partner in the importation of small, fuel-efficient vehicles.

Jeep sales gave some energy to the Eagle division, but once Chrysler broke off the sport-utility brand and made it available to its own dealers as the SUV boom began in the 1990s, the Eagle brand quickly foundered. Chrysler announced the end of the Eagle brand in November 1997 and the last Eagle Talon, a badge-engineered version of the Mitsubishi Eclipse, came off the assembly line shortly thereafter.

  • Tsi Buyer Beware - 1996 Eagle Vision

Eagle Vision Tsi Owners and Future Buyers Beware. This was a great and fun car when we first got it. Slowly but surely it will start falling apart on you. Serious electrical problems everywhere. Door locks, trunk, alarm, ignition switch. Stalling. Paint peeling on any plastic areas, bumpers, rear window panels. Good Luck. :-(

Purchased the vehicle new in 94 and have 95000 miles on it. I have been very pleased with the performance - lots of power, gets 29 mpg on long highway trips. In addition, there havent been any serious mechanical problems to date, except the alternator was replaced at 85000 miles and the air conditioner was repaired twice under warranty.

  • Its just my kind of car. - 1995 Eagle Talon
    By -

My Talon is the first of my "newer" vehicles, and I love to drive it. I havent had any problems with my car although Im starting to hear rattling, and for some reason my brakes sometimes squeek, but other than that the car is in great condition. All I have to do is give it a tune and an oil change and its good to go.

  • mchammonds talon - 1991 Eagle Talon

My experience so far with my 1991 Talon has been okay. Except recently it has had a slight hesitation in the morning when taking off and shifting into different gears. Also the check engine light has came on and the car starts to shake and shutter then it tries to stall. I took it to a mechanic to have it computer anylized only to find out that the 1991 Eagle Talon doesnt have a memory in its computer, therefore I paid $50 for them to tell me that they couldnt get the code to the computer and the only way they could is if the check engine light stayed on. They told me that most likely its one of the many sensors in the car.

  • good car/great price - 1994 Eagle Summit
    By -

This was my first car purchase. As is always the case, I wanted to get the best car possible for my money...which was not much at the time. Ive had my 94 eagle Summit for over 7 years now and have had no problems with it. It is an economy car that I have been very pleased with.

  • Takes a Licking and Keeps on Ticking - 1992 Eagle Talon
    By -

I have a non-turbo one and havent had a problem yet since the 25,000 miles I put on it. I beat on it hard and have only had to do the normal stuff to the car oil changes, brakes, tires. Other than that it runs great and gets great gas mileage. Im at 84,000 miles and still going. Good dependable work car.

  • Big Family Sedan Reliable Ride - 1993 Eagle Vision
    By -

The most reliable breakdown free car I ever owned. I dont know if the other reviewers changed oil every 10k miles, but the only major deal was the A/C and the fuel rail replacement (recall from Chrysler). Good size sedan for a family and comfortable on long trips. Looking for another one for a good price-since again breakdown free car (had 170,000 miles when I finally sold it in 2000). Good gas mileage 23-25 mph on highway, about 20 in city.

  • Not too bad - 1991 Eagle Summit

The car was very reliable after a few minor adjustments. I wasnt that big on the body style and look, but it got me where I was going. It was a perfect car to drive back and forth to work and school.

  • Gotten my $ worth - 1990 Eagle Talon
    By -

This is the second 1990 Eagle Talon TSI AWD that I have owned. There is nothing that I can put this car down for it was ahead of its time when it was built in 1990. Just wish Eagle would have built on there strengths rather than to come up with what they have now a days
