  • Good Hauler But Had to Go - 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe

I purchased my 99 Tahoe 4x4 LT used in 2001 with 64,000 miles for less than 1/2 what it sold new. I traded it in this summer with 154,000 after I got tired of replacing parts for the second or third time including: Anti lock brakes went out at 60,000 driver window motor 3x driver outside door handle 3x blower fan intake manifold gasket air conditioner pump power steering sensor 2x radiator water pump vanity mirror console latch distributor rotor 6x (I was stranded on the interstate last Thanksgiving when the rotor failed again). The straw that broke the camels back was a misfire on the #4 cylinder that neither I nor the dealer could remedy.

I bought my tahoe because i fell in love with the looks of it. It is very easy to keep clean due to the dark colors but had to replace a cracked head and $1600 in other engine repair work in less than two months of purchasing. Now it needs an O2 sensor, tie rods, ball joints, the oil gauges drops to 0 when stopped and its not the oil pump. Its been an ongoing money pit.

Rides and drives good. Dont use it for towing just normal driving. I have had it for about 9 months and have 116,000 on it. It had 106,000 when I got it. I have spent about 800 dollars on it (02 sensors, idler arm,Pitman arm, still needs tie-rods and balljoints + had exhaust work done twice.) and now it is in the shop again. The cam gear and distributor gear are bad. about 1,700 for parts and labor. $850 just for parts. Cant wait to git it fixed. Might make a good trade-in for something else. This is not a good dependable vehicle. Would not recommend unless u have money to burn!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bought truck last summer. Has 92K miles. I needed a good tow vehicle for hauling my boat to the lake. It is very good at hauling the boat. That is the good news. The bad news in the last three months It needed a new transmission, water pump, and intake gaskets. I am afraid to drive it because I cant afford any more repairs. Very high cost of ownership.

Ive been reading through these in hopes that Id get some ideas for what all is going on with mine right now. I bought mine used in 2000-48,000 miles. Granted, Ive had the car for almost 8 years. It has been with me for a while. BUT, Ive gone through an air conditioning system, 3 fuel pumps, an alternator, ball joints, pigtails, and countless times of not starting, or dying at stop lights. Its at 110,000 right now and Ive had it in the shop three times in the last two months. No one can figure out whats going on. Every time I drive it Im glad I get to my destination if I actually get there. Very unpredicatble vehicle. In cold weather, it totally has a mind of its own.

I bought my 99 4wd in 2004 w/60,000 miles, now w/172,500 things are going wrong. 3 sets of tires(allignment, ball joints) 2 sets of rotors & brakes. Ive replaced the fuel, water, & P/S pump. My battery also leaked acid & the cables melted to the battery. Flickering lights, jiggling doors, the radio turns off/on by itself ,A/C wont blow on high, 2 broken door handles. Only the driver can control the power windows (bad switch) So After owning this Tahoe for 2 1/2 years & not being able to smog it due to a leaky injector in the 5th cyl.(recalled by Chevy) the DMV wont issue plates or send me the pink until she passes smog .Regardless of all this, Im buying a new Tahoe and will always drive a Chevy.

  • Not the best truck - 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe

We bought it with 65,000 miles on it. It was never used for towing or off road. We have had to replace the transmission, fuel pump/sending unit, alternator. Still have to replace A/C lines to rear A/C. They rusted. Imagine that...they are run along the inside of the frame. the blinker switch is bad, there is a sensor in the steering column that senses the speed of your turning and boosts the power steering as needed. It boosts on its own once in a while. Scary when you are driving through a curve. The 4 wheel drive service light comes on now and we already had some sensors replaced a few months ago. I cannot figure out why the transmission would fail before 100,000 miles.

  • They dont make them like they use to! - 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe

I have a 99 Tahoe Z71 powered by a LT1/340hp V8 (Yes, its original). Rear axle seals have always been a problem. Finally had to replace the axles. Brakes a huge problem finally replaced with "greenstuff brakes", the jury is still out on that verdict. Transmission and engine still real strong after 121k miles. Its all the small stuff power steering pump, alternator, fuel pump. However, try to tow 8000 pounds with your Toyota over the PA mountains! Gas mileage is 14/17. I can only use super unleaded fuel. I had to replace the entire exhaust system because both cats went out at 90k miles. Absolutely crazy cats usually outlast the vehicle.

  • honey the tahoe is making a funny noise - 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe

Got this angel from hell with 48000 on it. Looked great ran great. Since then have done front brakes three times in 40000 miles, manifold gasket, then the kicker it dropped a rod at 72000. BLOWN ENGINE. Cost of ownership has been more than any vehicle I have owned over 30 years. Would not buy another but the way the resale is dropping on this puppy may not be able to unload it. GM was sorry but of no help with the engine problem even with recorded oil changes and maintenence I will not buy one of these again period.

  • Yee Haw -- my lease is almost up! - 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe

This Tahoe had brake problems within six weeks. Same story that other reviewers have mentioned . . . brake system too small for vehicle. There have been many other problems with this vehicle and I am THRILLED that my lease is almost up!
