This Year's Model Updates:

Chevrolet offers revised 16- and 17-inch aluminum wheels, and 17-inch all-season tires are now optional on LT models. Other new features include a tire-pressure monitor and Hydroboost brakes that provide more reserve stopping power and decreased pedal effort, according to Chevrolet. A traction assist feature is available on two-wheel-drive Tahoes equipped with a locking rear differential. The trailering package includes a 7-to-4 pin brake wiring adapter. Finally, for added safety, there is now a front-passenger seatbelt reminder.

Pros:
  • Strong engines, roomy and versatile interior, numerous available amenities.
Cons:
  • Spotty build quality, interior materials could use improvement.

  • Known defects - 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe

This GM vehicle has suffered from some of the "known defects" by GM. The instrument cluster has been replaced under warranty, fuel pump became weak and been replaced, the actuators that control the airflow into the cabin become flaky and will start blowing hot air out (you have turn off the car and restart-Ive gotten good at doing this while going down the road). The final straw with this vehicle - excessive porosity in the cylinder heads (again, a known issue with GM suppliers CasTech heads) allows steady leaks into the valve train and gets mixed in with the oil. It has gotten bad (1 gal/month) and now at 105,000 miles, this vehicle has to go unless GM steps up. TBD.

Ive own my Tahoe for 5 1/2 years. Lowered it and put 20s on it, so the ride is excellent. Even with the 4.8 it tows my wakeboard boat fine. A couple of minor issues, but overall pretty reliable. Mileage is similar to others avg 16-17 with a max of 20. After 75000 still have original brakes with life to go...weird. Biggest disappointment is the engine has piston slap and GM said that was "normal" and wouldnt do anything. May not buy another GM because of that.

Other than the typical gas hog complaints, this is one great vehicle! Chevy has refined this SUV to be serviceable and comfortable.

I actually just got off the phone and asked in regards of the "recall" for the speedometer problem and was told that it cannot be done after 70,000 miles free of charge, that I would have to pay $500.00. I was told that GM was ONLY doing this out of "COURTESY" and that it was NOT an official safety recall. Well what happens when you are driving and not know how fast you are going, is THAT not count as a SAFETY?

Ive owned the vehicle for almost a month and our first test was a trip down to South Carolina. My family felt safe and comfortable all the way down, mind you we had 7 passengers. The OnStar was a tremendous help for directions. Ive never owned a Chevrolet before but, I will be a Chevrolet fan for the rest of my driving days!! Thanks for a great made vehicle!! DMP

Bought the truck new in 04 and now it has 136,000+ miles but the first 30,000 werent trouble free. In the first 30,000 half the engine had to be rebuilt, it overheater numerous times, and some electrical components shorted- out. Also the 4wd gave out right after the warranty ended, and also the water pump had to be replaced at 100k and the windshield wiper fuild motors. Also the Speedometer doesnt work anymore and it is a recall that the dealers wont honor. Although after the 30k make the truck has held up well mechanically. The exterior has held up great and the interior as well with the exception of the paint coming of the radio dials. Normal leather seat wear. Next car will be a ford.

Bought this Tahoe new 4 1/2 years ago and it has been the best vehicle I have ever owned.

  • Typical GM - 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe

I bought this Tahoe a few years ago with around 40K miles on it. The speedometer broke at 60K, and shortly after GM recalled them, but by that time I was at 71K, so they would not refund me the $600. Overall it is comfortable, and fun to drive. Typical GM though, many interior lights are burned out, and everything is starting to rattle. Other than that, there have been no major problems.

I like how high up my vehicle is off the ground. When driving at night I hate the other headlights in my rear view mirror blinding me. I also like how sturdy the truck looks. I usually would have picked a white vehicle but this time I picked the color red (red fire. I just love the color.
