Cons:
  • Spotty build quality, inferior-grade interior trim, low seating positions, poor crash-test scores.

  • I Love Mine - 2001 Chevrolet S-10

I purchase my 3 door LS extended cab 2WD 2.2L in August of 2001 brand new off the dealership lot and have been happy ever since. Almost 14 years and 116,000 miles later were still together and going down the road. I have always loved the reliability and simplicity of my S-10 (Im old so it gets more points since its so simple!) All I have done is preventative maintenance and nothing else, Ive never had issues with it except a new exhaust system last year. It hasnt gotten any rust and seems to be a good truck for the money since I didnt want the Silverado MPG. I took it on a 410 mile trip last weekend without any issues and the 4 cylinder got 24 MPG and thats with the hilly Missouri terrain with the Cruise Control set to 70. I really love this truck and since its lasted 13 ILL winters without any issues Ill keep it for another 13+!

We own a 2001 Chevy S-10 Extended cab. Weve never had any major problems, although we did replace the radiator- but that was normal ware and tear. I do find I have to turn the key twice sometimes to start it and the rear door latch broke- The 4.3 liter V6 gets great gas mileage and the truck drives more like a small car. It tows great wit the built in bumper pull package. In the snow even without sandbags it does fairly well. Ive never really slid in it and eel safe. The drawbacks are the doors dont close all the way sometimes and The rear door handle is broken but I dont use the back door anyway. The truck gets to be a little noisy but thats just about right for any truck it seems.

  • Proud of my S10 - 2001 Chevrolet S-10

I purchased this S10 recently. This is my first car and I am very pleased so far. I was one of those teenagers that thought they wanted a really exotic car like a Mitsubishi eclipse. If you are shopping for a first car definitely look at these. There are tons of them around and you can get a great deal on them.

I bought this truck on 7/20/2009 and its been a joy to own ever since. I bought the truck for $6,000 and it had 83,000 miles on it. The only problem Ive had on it is that CO2 sensor got moisture in it after a heavy rain and as the weather got warmer the moisture went away. The truck is very fun to drive and Im hoping to own it for a very long time. This is the first vehicle I have ever owned and i love my s-10.

  • SMOOTH RUNNING - 2001 Chevrolet S-10

Great little pickup for light hauling. Drives smooth & straight with excellent brakes. Manual transmission is fine. My 4 cyl gets 23 mpg. I do have trouble with the emmision pump (so the computer says) system but it does not effect the running of the unit.

  • Great Truck - 2001 Chevrolet S-10

I bought this truck with 15,000 miles on it and now have just over 155,000. This has been one o my best vehicle purchases. This truck has taken a lot of abuse and handled it well. I do a lot of hauling but have only had to do the front brakes once and have never done the rear. Intake gasket at 120,000 and o2 sensors at 150,000. No other repairs needed. Very well built. Great purchase.

  • A great all-arround mini truck - 2001 Chevrolet S-10

I bought my truck with 3 miles on it and now I have over 111,000mi. I have only had 2 issues. 3rd door handle broke and I believe this is attributed to lack of maintenance which asks for lubrication of the body every so often. And my heater core which I caused by running a radiator flush in my vehicle too long. Otherwise this truck has been like a rock. Filters and fluids are the only things I have changed on my truck. The interior is hardly showing its age. I love my truck. Just enough room in the bed for a homeowner to complete any weekend project. The key to any vehicle is maintenance. If people followed their vehicles maintenance schedule these problems would be cut in half.

  • Nice Little Truck - 2001 Chevrolet S-10

Ive had this truck for a long time and had very few problems. Not to long ago I had to put a fuel pump and a radiator in it. Thats not bad for 185000 miles. Runs like new. I have the 4.3 V6 and it makes pretty good power. Also looks good. Many aftermarket parts are out for it. I have aftermarket wheels on mine and it looks great. Its a great little truck.

  • Good luck? - 2001 Chevrolet S-10

I had wanted an S-10 6 years prior to finally buying one. I couldnt drive stick at the time, but bought the 5 speed anyway & now cant imagine driving automatic! Ive said this 1000 times, I love my truck. I get about 22 mpg on hghwy/ 20 city so its not bad but could be much better. Biggest complaint is Ive had to replace the 3rd door handle four times. Otherwise, its very comfortable, handles well & has more peep to it than most 4 cylniders. I like the extra room the extended cab offers & the jumper seat has proved useful. The bed is short, especially with the box but still enough room to move my friends! Never had a break down or any major problems. 6 years later, I still love my truck
