  • Been an excellent car - 1999 Chevrolet Malibu

Approximately 140,000 miles on it right now and still going strong. Have only performed regular maintenance items since purchasing this car and have never had a major problem. Great mileage with the 4 cylinder and the power is good for a car this size.

  • Is it the car or it the reviewers? - 1999 Chevrolet Malibu

I was surprised to see all the really negative comments here. Ive had my Malibu for 4 years, and while Ive only put 20K miles on it.Ive had really no major problems.Yes, the tire ware is a bit faster than usual. Yes ,the AC cuts off for seemingly no reason (although if you turn the blower off and then back on, it works fine for another 15 minutes and then you do it again). Yes, the build quality could be better but the price/features ratio on this car is fantastic. Its not a Lexus folks...it is a plain car that has just what you need and nothing you dont.

  • The Usual Suspects, Dont Buy - 1999 Chevrolet Malibu

I have owned this since new and despite babying it, its been a huge disappointment in reliability. Replaced brake rotors 4 times, alternator, AC wwitch panel, new radiator and just now a blown head gasket. I will sell it as soon as its fixed. GM quality is still horrible.

  • Malibou has worst breaking system - 1999 Chevrolet Malibu

The brakes on this car were awful, the inside breakpad was wore down to the steel and the outside pad was at 85%, I have heard nothing but bad things about these aluminum break pads.

  • Lo and behold - 1999 Chevrolet Malibu

I bought this car because I got a deal. Im on this site looking for a new car and felt I owed it to anyone thinking about a Malibu to say dont do it! I was surprised to see that everyone on here has had similar problems. Head gaskets, coolant goes down without a leak, heat/AC only works on the third or fourth setting- first two burnt out, went thru wheel bearings left and right, I have put more money into this car than I paid for it! I thought I just got a lemon, apparently so did everyone else who bought it. It was comfy, pretty good on gas, and nice to drive. When it was actually running. Or not in the garage with 5 mechanics around it who couldnt pin what was wrong with it.

  • Simply put: a good value - 1999 Chevrolet Malibu

Its about as good a deal as you can get on a decent midsized car. I would advise people looking to buy a Mally to go in after theyre trying to get the new model year cars out there, youll get a great deal. IF YOU ARE BUYING USED, I would advise you to go after a low-mileage Malibu. The Edmunds rating for 99 Mallys is real low, yet my car has been a dream (22K miles). Ive only had to fix: front brake rotors, burned out tail-light (twice), broken seatbelt buckle. All under warranty. And thats it! My Mally has been everything Ive asked for and has never, ever failed me. Love a Malibu and it wont let you down.

  • After 8 yrs - 1999 Chevrolet Malibu

Bought this car new and after 8 yrs still havent had major problems. The only 2 issues with this car I have had are the rear lights (brake/reverse) burn out frequently and have had water pump replaced twice. Other than this, the last 93k miles have been problem free.

  • Affordable Luxury - 1999 Chevrolet Malibu

This vehicle is a beautiful and an affordable car. Great for those people who like luxury cars but cant afford them. Its very spacious and drives like your floating on air. I recently got into a car accident and lost my car. But I will definately purchase another Chevy Malibu!

The car from the outside is very nice with its soft lines and curves. The muffler is tucked up under the body, unlike some cars of this class. The look is sporty for a functional sedan. The reliability suffers with some poor engineering and very high cost parts. Problems with my car have been repeated lock cylinder and intake gasket replacement, with overheating issues. For the cost of repairs, the car continues to be strong competition for cars in this price range, and functionality.

  • Not A Happy Camper Today - 1999 Chevrolet Malibu
    By -

Bought the car with 7,000 miles on it from dealer. At <30,000 had to have the rear brakes (rotors/pads) replaced ($300).The tie rods were replaced at same time (under warranty).Today, I have 36,400 miles and am having alternator replaced ($400)after putting a brand new battery in last week ($75) and also the AC switch panel which may be why your a/c is shutting off and on too)$200. 400 miles ago this would have been covered under warranty. Not today. Im not very happy with my Malibu. Oh yeah, did I mention the tires that were practically shot at 17K. am now totally convinced I should never have bought a Chevrolet
