A solid car - 2000 Chevrolet Malibu
By smithns - July 17 - 9:51 amI purchased my 2000 Malibu in 2003 with 60k miles. The owner was a senior citizen who had made lots of road trips and meticulously kept up with maintenance and had all receipts to prove it. Ive now had my Malibu for 9 years and love it. Ive had to do most of the expected routine maintenance - brakes, rotors, tires, filters. Theres been a few pieces of non routine maintenance but overall this has been a great vehicle for me. Im now at 162k and expect to take it to 200k+. When Im done, I hope I can find a similar car - malibu from same era with meticulous records and low miles and likely non aggressive driving previous owner.

Very Reliable - 2000 Chevrolet Malibu
By easy48 - June 2 - 11:39 amI bought this car brand new in 2000, and it has been a good car. As with all cars theres maintenance and repairs that need to be done, especially after driving it over 100K miles. It is still running good after 111K and I am confident it will go to 200K. The biggest issue with this car was the anti-theft system. At about 75K it became so sensitive that when I turned the key to start it, the system would turn on, and I would have to wait 5 minutes before it would start. I had the ignition switch replaced and never had the issue again. Also, the cruise control does not stay locked in, but dont use anyway so its not a problem for me.

So far so good - just purchased with 200K on it - 2000 Chevrolet Malibu
By jimntempe - March 20 - 11:14 pmI read most of the reviews here and it almost made me back out of my decision to by a 2000 Malibu LS. But the car was like new, even with 200K miles, and it was very inexpensive compared to the other junk Id looked at for the same price or more. The prior owner had quite of few of his repair papers and like many of these cars it had the intake manifold redone, a new fuel pump, new water pump, plugs, wires, and one injector, all at around 100K. Also had brakes done several times but no more often them most other cars.

not bad - 2000 Chevrolet Malibu
By sixohthree81 - March 16 - 5:09 pmhad my Bu for about 2 years, only problem was external head gasket leak. just kept antifreeze in and drove it like that for over a year. had to send to junk yard due to my stupidity with jacking it up in the rear in the wrong spot and bent something that cause the back end to come around when you hit the breaks. didnt want to take the time to fix as I got another car I was fixing. great car tho loved everything about it!

Pretty Good - 2000 Chevrolet Malibu
By halfdemon - September 18 - 4:15 pmI have had a few issues here and there, got it for free, so all the repairs are good up-to 2,000 dollars. Small leak in A/C lines, repaired and filled for $75 at a Ford lot. I like the car, feels good, great gas mileage, and other than a/c and brakes no problems.

I love it, but... - 2000 Chevrolet Malibu
By alexissunshine - August 25 - 1:22 pmI do love my Malibu - it was a gift, but its just eating all my money. I got in in February 11 with 115k miles and by August 11 it has 123k, and Ive put in almost $1,000 to keep it running. I just blame the water pump/serpentine belt on the age and the control arm on our terrible roads, but its kicking my butt. I do love my Ali though :) Its not a terrible car but I just dont have the money for the upkeep.

I liked it - 2000 Chevrolet Malibu
By jequines - February 4 - 1:58 pmHad one for 10 years, bought it almost new with 40,000kms. I see other people had nothing but problems, not me drove it till 290,000kms only problems I had were it needed an alternator around 150xxxkms and brakes twice. Doors were starting to rust after 9 yrs and 200xxxkms. Handled fine good power and very comfortable. Was always very reliable for me.

Buyer beware - 2000 Chevrolet Malibu
By F_U_Malibu - July 7 - 6:41 pmOk this car is junk, why did they make this? Someone gave me this car. For free, all I had to do was fix it up. Leaking coolant, malfunctioning ignition switch, new starter, new head gasket, struts go every couple months, intake gasket went, blower only works on 3 and up, signals dont work, omg the list goes on and on and on, not to mention Ive only had this for a little over a year. Dont buy it, or take it for free. Worst car ever built, I will get my vengeance Chevy.

Just Pour Your Money Down the Drain - 2000 Chevrolet Malibu
By mindgraffiti - May 27 - 10:37 amI have owned this used car for 7+ years. Stuck with a 3 year loan, only to shell out more money immediately after buying it! Within the first 6 months, when it hit 50k miles, the engine completely DIED. Spent $4k on a new one. Even after a NEW one, Ive replaced the intake gasket 4 times. Its gradually gained a large 6" round rust hole near the bottom of the fuel door. The ignition fails randomly and after 3 repair shops, no one can find the problem. The A/C needs recharged every month during the summer and on 80°F & hotter days, you cant tell its working. Ive quit making repairs ($6k during 3 yr loan!) and am driving it til its dead. After this car, nothing will make me buy GM again.

Goodbye Old Pal - 2000 Chevrolet Malibu
By BOBB - February 28 - 5:03 pmtraded my 2000 Malibu for a 2010 HHR. Only has 48000 miles, but I never had anything close to a major problem with this car. For 9 years and 9 months it always got me where I wanted to go. It was a very luxurious car for the price I paid. For the last couple of years it sounded like there was a Mexican troope playing castanets in the engine, but I still got 24 miles per gallon. It was one of the best cars Ive had and Im 66 years old.
