I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKE LIGHTS IT UNDER A 10$ FIX!!! BUY NEW BOARDS THAT HOLD THE BULBS AND DONT USE CHEAP BULBS!!! THE BRAKE PROBLEM HAS NOT HAPPENED TO ME. I HAD THEM REPLACED AT 40,000 MILES STILL GOING STRONG. I HAVE REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR ONCE AT 35,000 MILES.OVER ALL AN OK CAR FOR THE MONEY.

Our Malibu has not been very reliable. Most of the problems were covered under warranty. However, poor front brake and front suspension design continue to be a problem. Fuel capacity is very small and is a huge inconvenience. Dont expect much on the trade in!

  • Whats up with the brake lights - 1999 Chevrolet Malibu

I love this car to death, the only things I wish they would change are similar to most peoples complaints. I wish they would hide the change compartment, I had my window broken out for 1 dollar. The only other thing I would like to see fixed is the brake lights....my right brake light burns out within 20 minutes of replacing it. Ive put 10 bulbs in there, and have attempted to trace the problem back to the source, and am not finding anything. Everything else has been good with this car. Very reliable, and very nice. Ive only had 1 breakdown, and that was the alternator at 60000 miles, not too bad in my opinion

Yes indded, breaks seem to be changed every 6,000 miles on the dot. Almost as much as an oil change! Living in Louisiana, and having a car with a A/C that seems to have a mind of its own, is nothing short of depressing. On hot days, it will kick off and blow out hot air, even when i turn it all the way on high. And even chevorlet dealerships cant ,and wont explain to me why it does this. Brakes have been replaced almost five times and rotors twice, the boots once. I have changed my altenator once, which wasnt that bad since i have over 100k miles..

I have enjoyed my experience with the Malibu so far. Its affordable and reliable. I have been looking for another vehicle for the past couple of months but because the Malibu doesnt hold its value I am upside down on it. So, I will be stuck with it for a while. I would recommend this car but only if one can get it at a real good price, since it depreciates quickly.

Bought it new. Brakes & rotors have been changed twice. They almost stop working!! AC is marginal on very hot days & has quit working while on vacation in Florida. Dash lights sometimes do not work properly. Its pretty good for trips but have misgivings about reliablity.

Either the previous owner fixed all the numerous problems other owners have experienced or I got the "CHERRY" and not the "LEMON"! I bought it used with 49.5 miles and NO(knock on wood) problems yet. Its been 14 months and 13K. My first GM car and just looking for a car to go from point a to B. To me its a basic transportation car and nothing much to brag about.

Have had this car well over 4 years and have had no major problems. Change the oil and rotate tires regularly. Did have to get new tires at 23000 miles (dry rot). Could be Florida. Also have same AC problem-- shuts off by itself for no reason. But, if you switch the fan up & down it comes back on again.

I purchased the car new. Overall, it has been a good car. There were a few problems at the beginning (CD-Player, Visor and glovebox alignment), but these were resolved quickly by the dealer as car was still under warranty. Only complaint is that brake repairs are expensive on this car (though I have had it for 4 yrs and put a lot of miles on so I had to do the brakes 3 times. At around 60k miles I needed the belt tensionor replaced. Service costs over 4 years were ~ $1k (oil changes not included). I think this car is a good value.
