Im so ready to trade this in - 1999 Chevrolet Malibu
By MoJo411 - January 29 - 2:00 amI bought my malibu at 28K miles. The car is reliable, starts up every morning w/no problem. BUT I have replaced brakes 3 times, rotors twice, had to put new battery and altenator in, replace windshield wiper blades twice, get a/c fixed (and it still isnt working right) replaced taillights 3 times, and my a/c switch now only works on 3, 4 and 5. I have spend too much money on this car, probably more than Ill get for it at trade-in time.

GM will have to win me back - 1999 Chevrolet Malibu
By cec28007 - January 12 - 2:00 amI have replaced the brake pads twice, my rotors are warped, replaced the serpintine belt twice, all four tires, replaced front passenger wheel bearing , and alternator. When driving 75 mph the car shakes, and there is still a bearing noise which comes from the front passenger wheel. In the shop right now having the head intake gasket, water pump and serpentine belt replaced. 3.1 L problematic, just look around the web, youll see. I thought Id give GM another shot at winning me over. Lets just say my next car will be a Honda. No wonder GM is loosing so much market share to Honda and Toyota.

Problems with Malibu - 1999 Chevrolet Malibu
By aliall - December 23 - 2:00 amApparently these cars are known to have problems with their manifold intake gaskets. Ours went out at 41000 miles and will cost $1000-1200 to replace. The AC/heater fan also doesnt work on settings 1 and 2 and the seatbelts have broken. All in all a bad experience with the quality and reliability

avoid like the plague - 1999 Chevrolet Malibu
By jrrbznsn - November 19 - 2:00 amBrakes are bad. Worn out rotors too soon - weaqring out again. GNM dealers do not do required repairs until after warranty expires. GM does not care if some one dies.

Big timebrake problems, $$$$$$$$$ - 1999 Chevrolet Malibu
By Wesley R. - October 24 - 10:00 amI had to ship this one. It was bad. Right fron spinde would not allow for the mounting of the spare. Any spare would run on the calipers. Went through brake pads & rotors like a movie theater through popcorn. Rear shooes did last almost 30k. Pads every 5 or 6 k, rotors at 8-10k. It is the only time I knowingly traded in a vehicle with problems.

Tickedoffowner - 1999 Chevrolet Malibu
By tickedoff - October 23 - 2:00 amIn the last 4 years/32k miles Ive been thru 3 sets of brake pads and rotors. Ive had a hole in the wind shield wiper fluid reservoir. The temp gauge is bad. The intake maifold gasket died in Feb 03. And most recently/today I had a new resistor installed becuase the low speeds on the heater/ac were not working. Oh yeah I also have put on 4 new tires. Needless to say I will not be buying another Malibu!!!

Do not buy American - 1999 Chevrolet Malibu
By Windy City - September 18 - 2:00 amJust traded my car in for a 02 Toyota Camry because my Malibu had a blown gasket in the intake manifold ($600.00 to fix). Bought it with 19K miles, when traded the car had less than 30K miles. Also, it wasted a lot of gas (not good with gas prises so high), leaking coolant, car shakes went it is at a stop, rattling sound by the passanger side, every time I got my car washed had to replace the right brake light bulb (water kept getting inside the rear taillight)

bland - 1999 Chevrolet Malibu
By cosmok - August 15 - 2:00 ampretty boring car. our 1990 civic is more fun to drive than this car. The quality isnt all that great (after having a few Japanese cars: those that have Hondas and Toyotas... dont switch to GM). The build quality isnt something to brag about, seems GM came out with this car too quickly and cut some corners. Perhaps the newer models will improve on many old flaws that us, the customers, have had.

Look elswhere! - 1999 Chevrolet Malibu
By jcosta - August 1 - 2:00 amBought this new and 2 weeks after taking delivery had it back at the dealer to have the inside roof (of all things) repaired due to a loud noise. Less then 6 months later it was the AC switch, and then the tie rods and then breaks (3 sets in 39k miles). One set of new tires and a couple of other minor things before the head gasket went at 37k miles. Out of warranty... Talked to the service manager and complained about the poor quality of these cars and he told me these engines are notorious for blowing head gaskets. Squeaking serpentine belt replaced 8 times in 3 years. Theyd replace it, but never found the problem for the reoccurring squeak.
