This Year's Model Updates:

The Chevrolet Impala carries over largely unchanged for 2008. Satellite radio is now standard on all models, while the lower-level LS and LT models receive a standard six-way power driver seat. Stability control is now standard on 2LT, LTZ and SS trim levels, and the 3.9-liter V6 is now E85 ethanol-gasoline compatible.

Pros:
  • Powerful and efficient engine choices, available six-passenger capacity, good crash test scores.
Cons:
  • Cushy suspension hurts handling dynamics, subpar cabin materials, average legroom.

  • Extended Warranty Needed - 2008 Chevrolet Impala

We have had a lot go wrong with this car (after the warranty went off), and we are still paying car payments to the bank. Besides expected things, like brakes and tires, the following things have gone wrong on this car so far: --1) emissions vent solenoid, 2) rear defogger, 3) front wheel barrings (both), 4) window washer pump, 5) air conditioning air-vent actuator, 6) key-less door lock units (all four) It is hard to feel comfortable driving a car that can have something go wrong so often, as well as hard to find any fun in it.

We purchased this car with 50K on it. We now have 80K. Trans jumps from starts, both right side door lock stopped working, rear window connector burned, now head gaskets leaking, and trans lines leaking. Total cost of repairs is 4000.00 dollars. Car in only worth about 8K. Paint finish is poor, Would not purchase another GM vehicle.

  • Worst Car, Absolute Junk - 2008 Chevrolet Impala
    By -

This is absolutely the worst car I have ever owned, or known anybody to have ever owned, worst mistake of my car buying life letting myself be sold into buying this car. Everything on the car breaks! This car company is paid for in part by my tax dollars and at this point I feel like I have not only been ripped off by GM, but also by the American government. GM needs to take responsibility for its poor product designs whether part of the NEW GM or the OLD GM, recall these cars and give me a refund of absurd amount of money I have had to pay for a poor excuse of a way to get to work and pay my tax dollars to support this country.

bought certified pre owned 2008 with 34k miles. 3 months in the ball join and control arm break replaced for free. november hits and snow falls car is uncontrollable in any snow or wet conditions even at 10 mph. 2 times car has flown across highway turning sideways almost crashed both times. i take it and the tires are worn to the medal on the inside of the tread out of pocket 250 for new ones with no explanation of why only the inside was worn down took it back out in the snow and lost it again. dealership has no solution and gm says its not awd thats why. when i could take my 95 turbo supra out and do better. such a pathetic company makes me sick any one else having this problem?

  • IMPALA THE UNSAFE VEHICLE - 2008 Chevrolet Impala
    By -

These cars are JUNK 34,000 miles equal 3 sets of tires, brakes 3 times. Rotors last a month at best. Can not be aligned properly, (recalled for goverment vehicles but not the public. DO NOT BUY A IMPALA you will be disapointed. Dealer suggestion to solve the brake problems is to NOT drive on any hills, quoate "these cars were not made for driving in the mountians" for 40 years i have driven GM cars but NO MORE. My 97 Taurus with 320,000 miles does not have the problems that my 2008 Impala has. Thouhjt i would buy my wife a safe car, boy was i wrong. NO MORE GM PRODUCTS FOR ME

  • Tires started wearing @ 10,000 miles! - 2008 Chevrolet Impala
    By -

Tires on these 2008 Chevy Impalas, are wearing prematurely starting @ 10,000 miles. Good Year dealer told me these 2008 are coming from factory slightly unaligned, causing premature wear. They also told me that they had 4 city police cars just in that @ 10,000 miles was in need of new tires all the way around on all four Chevy Impalas! And they wont do anything about replacing mine trying now for over 1 year. Had electrical problems with this sense 24 hours of having my Chevy Impala!

  • Disappointed in Chevy - 2008 Chevrolet Impala
    By -

This car has had to be back to the dealer 7 times for emissions related codes that cause a check-engine light within the first 17 months of ownership. It happened 4 times in the first year, but I didnt file a lemon law claim in time (it had to be done within the first 12 months) and now Chevy wont buy it back and I have changed to a different dealer for the last couple of repairs.

  • I want an apology - 2008 Chevrolet Impala
    By -

I now understand why GM is going bankrupt. Their cars are awful. My Chevy Impala is an embarrassment. Cheesy seats, pain getting in and out of car and not scrapping the parking brake. Upside peppy with decent MPG. the downside, craftsmanship, design, seats, handeling cabin noise, sound system. The people running GM owe me an apology for this lack of effort. The reason why GM performs so poorly is that they are out to make a buck not a car. The Japanese have learned make a good car and the bucks will follow. Goodbye GM and good riddance. I wish you would take back my Impala.

  • GM NEVER AGAIN! - 2008 Chevrolet Impala
    By -

I have had a GM car or truck since 1975. My friends point out to me that when you go back you cant complain. But, this car is a new low. After 300 (yes 300) miles the car basically is inoperable. The gauges dont work (except check engine light), no A/C, the message display says "engine hot" yet no heat. Also, there is a vibration in front end. So much for the good new car feeling. After having my car 1 day, the dealer says the problems with "my" car are very interesting. They were unable to diagnose in 1 day. My feelings are that "GMs" problems are very interesting. Maybe I just got "that" car. But, this american will turn to more reliable imports for future purchases

  • The Car that Could Have Been, But Isnt - 2008 Chevrolet Impala
    By -

Rented a brand-new Impala SS for a recent two-hundred mile trip. With a nice exterior styling and a roaring V8, this car could have been a huge hit for GM. However, it lacks the refinement, features and quality that are present in even entry-level import sedans. Despite its sport pretentions the cars steering and suspension are numbed with novacaine. Transmission lacks the auto-stick feature and is neither sporty nor refined. Wind noise is pronounced The interior lacks any character and feels generations behind both in quality and in content of my 06 Civic. The quality throughout is inconsistent. Overall, the car has a feel of being designed by the bean counters for the rental lots.
