This Year's Model Updates:

The 2008 Chevrolet HHR receives minor feature updates this year. OnStar is standard across the lineup and stability control has been added as an option. Debuting later in the model year will be the HHR SS with a 260-horsepower turbocharged engine.

Pros:
  • Smooth and quiet ride, plenty of cargo space, attractive cabin, excellent outward visibility.
Cons:
  • Lackluster handling and braking, unrefined engines, some low-grade interior plastics.

  • Mislead - 2008 Chevrolet HHR

I owned a VW Passat wagon. I was getting 26-28 MPG on the highway. A friend told me about the HHR and that I would receive better gas mileage. I traded for the HHR and got between 24 and 26 MPG. Very disappointing to say the least! Also the space in the back with the seat down is probably around 12 cubic feet smaller than the Passat. Another great disappointment. The interior uses a lot of cheap plastics and the window switches are on the center console. I have owned the car for 2 years and I still have to look for the switches every time I go to use them.

  • Some issues - 2008 Chevrolet HHR

I have a few problems with this car.First of all the rotors are always getting warped.I have replaced them several times and still happens again. The right rear passenger window motor has gone out.None of the tire pressure gauges work any longer. The rear seat has gotten cramped since the kids have grown up some. But the gas mileage is great though no doubt.I have 147,000 miles and have had no engine problems.I have noticed if I pull up to a light and I am first I have to lean forward to see the light.

  • Buyer Beware - 2008 Chevrolet HHR

Bought it for the "fun factor" and was disappointed. It has massive blind spots. Also thought I purchased new and the dealership sold me a demo and did not tell me. Found out after I got my papers in the mail. The controls for the window are in an unsafe place (they have since fixed that I heard). The drink cup holders are a joke at best. I am a big guy so the seat belts take an act of congress to fasten. And did I mention the wimpy armrest that points down when lowered. The tires have the constant tire pressure monitoring system so I am constantly refilling the tires. Needless to say I only drive it about 6,000 miles per year and that is when my daily driver (a 2002 honda civic) is being serviced.

  • No Customer Service here! - 2008 Chevrolet HHR

My HHR has had wind noise and water leak issues from the first month I have had it. Who wants to pay thousands of dollars over many years for a new car that has been a lemon from the start. It is now leaking for the fourth time and really (?!), wouldnt you think that Chevy would step up and not make me fight for what is right? But they are not! I am going to have to contact a lawyer! Thats not customer service!

  • The mystery igniton problem! - 2008 Chevrolet HHR

The HHR gets great mileage on long trips about 33mpg, however mine is a manual transmission. The interior needs more cup holders there are only three right down the center console. So with that said there are two in the front and only one in the back for rear passengers. This is a very fun car to drive and is very soild like a truck but rides like a car.

  • You get what you pay for - 2008 Chevrolet HHR

Serves its purpose for my wifes business. Very good cargo room with the seats folded down. Decent interior room. We looked at everything in that class that was under 20 thousand and this seemed like the best.

  • Worst car I ever bought - 2008 Chevrolet HHR
    By -

Worst mistake I ever made in purchasing a car. Its a really nice car to look at but, thats it. The all plastic interior just reaks of cheap. The front windshield has you leaning up into the steering wheel to see when the red light changes. No console and thus no decent storage space. The little thing they put on the dash is very lacking. The seats are uncomfortable. The space between you and the passenger is almost non existant. Really cramped feeling. No console between seats and the cup holders are the worst I have ever seen in any vehicle. The arm rest sit too low to be of any use. Window control location is very poor. Rear seat room is very poor.
