This Year's Model Updates:

The Equinox is an all-new compact SUV from Chevrolet. It shares a platform with the Saturn Vue and offers similar levels of space and versatility for buyers seeking practical suburban transportation.

Pros:
  • Standard V6 engine, long wheelbase affords plenty of interior room, fore/aft-adjustable rear seats, available side curtain airbags.
Cons:
  • Costs as much as the more powerful Saturn Vue, limited drivetrain choices, confusing stereo controls.

I LOVVVVVVVVVVVVVE my Equinox. The price was great and the SUV drives superb, looks and feels great too! I am constantly stop in a parking lot and at a stop lights with people ask question about what type of car is that! I tell them equinox and they look at me like I am crazy. I wanted this car so bad that the dealer call another dealer 150 miles and had it ship to their dealership. The car rides very smooth. I highly recommend the car. I haven t been this happy about a vehicle..I would have never thought I would purchase an american car. HORRAY to Chevrolet!

  • Disappointed in Gas Mileage - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

I really like this vehicle, but am very, very disappointed in the gas mileage. I get about half of what the EPA rating on the sticker. I think the shifting is a problem because the tach goes wild as it shifts through the gears, but the dealership ignores me. I am also disappointed in the wear of the interior already, and Ive only had the vehicle 7 months! It is a comfortable ride, and I like the room and the features of this vehicle, but I wish I had bought something else. And its really sad because I have always had such good experiences with Chevys.

Im very pleased with its performance. It has excellent maneuverability with quick response pickup. The electronic steering is a big plus, and a great experience for someone using it for the first time. Nice, modern, sleek body style was the first eye catcher, but the demo drive was the clincher. Went with the front wheel drive only in an effort to save on gas. Gas mileage is disappointing. Averaging about 16 to 18 mpg combined highway and city driving. Overall the car is an excellent buy for the money, with many extras standard.

  • I will buy another Equinox - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

This is one of the most comfortable vehicles I have owned. I usually trade every 3 yrs. This equinox has me sold. Ive had foreign cars & trucks. They all seem to have a rough ride & outside noise. This equinox is quiet & takes bumps smoothly. I used it in a courier service for the first 2 years. I routinely take it on long trips. 10 months ago I drove it from Sacramento to LA down I-40 to Amarillo up to Pueblo and back to Sac via hwy 50. Temps outside ranged from 5 to 80 degrees depending on location. Plenty of power for the mountains. Not one problem with this vehicle. I dont work for GM and Im not being paid to write this. Never had a problem. My next car will be an Equinox or Terrain.

  • cant wait to trade in - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

At first it was a nice car until the problems started. I had the brakes redone at 14000 miles. The a/c doesnt work on the drivers side. I already have rust starting on the back end. Warranty takes care of these. But I have to put my second windshield in because it cracks in the same spot starting below the rubber near the passenger door. Niether of them are from cracks The most annoying part is that I cant clean snow off of the windshield because of the design. The snow gets stuck and builds up because the "wings" that stick further out than the windshield. I am currently looking for a new car.

I loved my car from the moment I bought it but shortly after the problems started. It would start about 50% of the time and I had it in the shop several times before it was discovered that the fuel pump system had faulty parts. Recently the wiring system has become faulty and is blowing fuses to the point that my car literally dies! The trade in value is horrible and the gas mileage is nothing to brag about.

Vehicle really looks sharp. The ride is very smooth and quiet. Handling and acceleration are very good. Lots of legroom in rear when seat is all the way back. Sound system (premium sound with 6 disc CD changer) is terrific.

  • Was okay until... - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

I drive about 80 miles a day plus trips and really had no probs until now. Driveshaft bearing went out and supposedly damaged the CV joint. Still in the shop because apparently this is common. Was great thru Cleveland winter, even got me up the drive in 6" of snow with new Yoko tires. Still too many recurring and issues from the posts Ive read. Maybe Ill trade in & get a Buick. Ill not by foreign.

  • Good so far - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

2000 miles (300 in snow) in the first 3 weeks. AWD is great, transition from FWD is seamless. Engine/performance is surprisingly adequate, but buzzy. Transmission shifts agreesively to maintain speed, no trouble holding 75. Handling good for an SUV. Strut towers limit rear luggage space, golf clubs wont fit except on diagonal. Plenty of rear leg room with sliding rear seat. Firm seats were comfortable on 12 hr plus trip. LS is bit spartan, cruise control not standard? Come on! Gas mileage is suspect, too early to tell, guess about 22/16. Was hestitant to buy American (OK an American company), but price was the closer. Happy to date, we will see how reliability shapes up
