Model Overview:

The Chevrolet Colorado is Chevy's entry in the highly competitive compact truck segment. Like its rivals, the Colorado is closer to midsize than truly compact. Accordingly, it offers a reasonable amount of hauling capability without the added cost and bulk of a full-size pickup. As is customary in this segment, Chevrolet offers extended-cab and four-door crew-cab layouts, multiple bed lengths and available off-road preparation.

Older versions of the Chevy Colorado could be worth a look if you need a basic work truck, but their four- and five-cylinder engines are weak for this class (though you may find a few examples with a robust optional V8 engine). Colorados from 2015 and later are dramatically better, with competitive powertrains, up-to-date technology features and a spacious interior.

My truck also idles really rough. The sevice dept. keeps telling me the noise is unpreventalbe. Its designed that way.

The five cylinder engine is very peppy going up the steep mountain roads, even when fully loaded. The gas mileage is excellent for a pick up truck. The transmission is smooth.

I needed to get a WT model rather than the base model to get the rear seats that are, at best, for occasional use. I elected to get the 6-cylinder engine because I felt that the 4 would be under powered, and there was just 1 mpg difference in fuel economy between the engines. I dont regret either decision. The Colorado is a great work truck, with adequate power, and its quiet. Im looking forward to getting years of use from it. Already, in the first month, Ive hauled gravel, mulch, sand, paving stones, wood chips, and cardboard in it. I plan to use it for recreation also.

This truck so far has exceeded my expectations. I love the ride, fuel economy and excelent shifting auto transmission. First tank of gas from the dealer I got 24.1 mpg. I wasnt even driving it in a way to get good mileage since it was being broke in. I should be able to easily get 26+ mpg after the break in period.

This is a great truck. It is the perfect size, nicely powered and very comfortable - as are all Chevys products. Just a joy to drive.

I absolutely love this truck...as long as I dont have to drive it. It is the worst driving experience of any vehicle that I have ever owned. If the "variable speed transmission" is the wave of the future, I want nothing to do with it. If Chevy wants to continue using this transmission, there needs to be better communiction to their service managers. I have heard so many lame excuses as to why this transmission is terrible, i.e. "Its learning your driving style.", "Its designed to do that.", and "You need to drive a little more aggressive." Are you kidding me? So unless you are buying this as a first car for someone who wont know any better, dont waste your money!!!

  • Solid truck! - 2005 Chevrolet Colorado

Truck is performing great after about 5K miles. I have put on a lot of miles driving in miserable, snowy conditions here in the northeast this winter and the 4 wheel drive has been flawless. The truck handles like it is glued to the road in the slop. Although this is only my first pickup truck (I got rid of my gas guzzling SUV) I would recommend this truck to anyone who is also thinking about switching to a crew cab pickup. Gas mileage is decent and capacity is much better than even the huge SUVs like Expeditions and Navigators.

I bought the Colarado after cross shopping the Colarado, Dakota, Frontier, and Tacoma. I loved the exterior design of the Colarado. It had the looks, power and the all important fuel economy. the truck has been totally reliable which is surprising for a new first year model.

Its been in the shop twice. For faulty springs. And loud A/C compressor.

I highly recommend this truck. I love it, and my wife steals it when she can. Very solid, very comfortable and smooth ride even with the off road suspension. It is a small truck, I have never towed, and if I did, Id have gotten an F150. Also, no problem with the power, gets up and goes. Check the 0-60 times as tested. It is not as slow as it they make it out to be.
