Model Overview:

The Chevrolet Colorado is Chevy's entry in the highly competitive compact truck segment. Like its rivals, the Colorado is closer to midsize than truly compact. Accordingly, it offers a reasonable amount of hauling capability without the added cost and bulk of a full-size pickup. As is customary in this segment, Chevrolet offers extended-cab and four-door crew-cab layouts, multiple bed lengths and available off-road preparation.

Older versions of the Chevy Colorado could be worth a look if you need a basic work truck, but their four- and five-cylinder engines are weak for this class (though you may find a few examples with a robust optional V8 engine). Colorados from 2015 and later are dramatically better, with competitive powertrains, up-to-date technology features and a spacious interior.

  • Truck for the right price - 2005 Chevrolet Colorado

Never owned a Chevy before because they always seem cheaply made. The Colorado is better, but GM still has a long way to go if they expect to compete with any other brand. Love the looks from a distance, but the plastic grill, interior, seats, wheels, you name it look like a toy. The interior looks and feels like my kids toys. On the good side; good size truck for a family vehicle with decent power and MPG (although not good enough to justify purchasing the 5 over better engines. I towed an enclosed 4x8 trailer loaded with about 1k lbs from Grand Rapid to St Louis (mostly flat) and the tranny drove me nuts shifting gears all the time. All in all, this is a OK truck for my wifes DD.

First to Clarify, I have a z85 ext cab automatic 4X4 with 3500 vortec. This truck is terriffic! It runs great:Power(not as torquey as the old 4.3 but power throughout the RPM range is much better) And it rides like a car. Most comfortable, best handling truck I have ever been in. Besides loaded Silverado. I took this truck for the 24hr test drive and liked it so much I bought the demo. The stereo with XM is great. People bust in the interior as being bland and cheap..Come on , its a truck and the controls and instrument layout is cool and functional. Tacoma same overall look to inside but much coller outside.

For being a 4 cylinder it has good power and great fuel efficency. I have the automatic and I get 20.8 in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. The transmission is smooth.

Truck comes lowered which ,along with the 50 series tires, combine to emit a disconserting semi "hobby horse" ride quality on non asphalt freeways.Typically ,the partitions in the concrete slabs can bring on an affect not too distant from that of feeling as if the tires are out of balance. The power is adequate- especailly at the higher rpm levels designed in the new 3.5L mill but the initial low end grunt of the now defunct 4.3 V-6 is missing.Comfort levels and economy seem to be excellent and the new look is refreshing and aggressive.Wish the towing capacity was a bit higher but for everyday use I think the new Colorado will be just fine.

  • Just Fun - 2005 Chevrolet Colorado

I truly enjoy driving this truck. It has performed better then expected it the snow and ice of northern Wisconsin. Yet it is only a 2 wheel drive. The one area that need some attention is the seating. The angle is too straight for long distance travel. I suggest that they make a small adjustment in this area as well as a little more room for the passengers feet. These are only minor problems and can be fixed with a bit of thinking. The ride is smooth and the road noise is minimal. great truck. Just having fun.

  • Wind Noise! - 2004 Chevrolet Colorado
    By -

Very nice little truck to knock around town, but dont get it out on the highway over 60mph without ear plugs as it sounds like you were caught in a wind storm (outside standard cab noise) Dealer replaced windshield without much if any help. Local dealer admitted some have already traded in standard cab models because of the wind noise and said "I dont see how the engineers missed this" Brochure for LS model claims 6 radio speaker but I can find only 4.

I went from a 2001 fullsize Chevy to the 4-door Colorado. I thought I would miss the roomy interior, but I had no problem. It rides good, and handles great with good power. Not bad mileage and look great.
