Overview & Reviews
The Chevrolet Colorado is Chevy's entry in the highly competitive compact truck segment. Like its rivals, the Colorado is closer to midsize than truly compact. Accordingly, it offers a reasonable amount of hauling capability without the added cost and bulk of a full-size pickup. As is customary in this segment, Chevrolet offers extended-cab and four-door crew-cab layouts, multiple bed lengths and available off-road preparation.
Older versions of the Chevy Colorado could be worth a look if you need a basic work truck, but their four- and five-cylinder engines are weak for this class (though you may find a few examples with a robust optional V8 engine). Colorados from 2015 and later are dramatically better, with competitive powertrains, up-to-date technology features and a spacious interior.

Z71 Crew Cab 2 WD - 2005 Chevrolet Colorado
By drsherw - September 8 - 10:00 amHave had it for about two months and absolutely love it. Its a car, but its a truck too. I had a Dodge Ram but the gas mileage on this truck is so much better. It is not as big as a Ram, so I can get in and out of places much easier. The center of gravity makes it easy to maneuver. I am anxious to see how it performs in cold weather.

2004 Chevrolet Colorado - 2004 Chevrolet Colorado
By Larry Newton - September 7 - 10:11 pmMy wife and I really enjoy our new Colorado as a second vehicle. We selected it because of its very comfortable ride, the ease of entering and exiting the vehicle, and its hauling capacity. It is giving a good 28 MPG on the road and 19 MPG in town. The five cylinder engine has terrific acceleration especially when needed to enter Atlantas interstates. I recently read Consumer Report on the Colorado, and I think CR totally mis- represented the vehicle. We tried and my son bought a Toyota Tacoma. After test driving the Toyota and driving my sons Toyota, I still like the Colorado for its comfortable ride, acceleration, mileage, and ease of getting in and out.

Love my truck - 2005 Chevrolet Colorado
By Chris - September 3 - 12:47 amI bought my Colorado when the S-10 that I was driving died, and it was a very good decision I must say. I was looking into other light duty trucks, but I am glad that I chose the Colorado. It gets better gas mileage than any of the other trucks I was looking at, and right now thats pretty important. What I was suprised about was that for being only a 5 cylinder truck, it has more power than I expected it to.

Silver Bullet - 2005 Chevrolet Colorado
By S W T - September 2 - 4:37 pmThis truck is a huge improvement over my 95 S-10. Much larger, taller, tighter, more powerful. The 5-cyl, 3500 motor is responsive. Not race like performance (it is a truck), but quick when needed. The transmission does tend to search for the right gear too much. The truck is extremely quiet, has a solid but comfortable ride, and has adequate gas milage for a mid size pickup. Making the Z-71 suspension available in a 2WD is a good move by Chevrolet. The package makes the truck look much better without the expense of 4WD on a vehicle that will not be taken off road.

Too many problems for a brand new truck - 2004 Chevrolet Colorado
By zach - September 1 - 11:44 pmHood came loose and rattled horribly when idling. Brake lights and running lights have burnt out twice. Towing light plug didnt work fist time I used it. Half the interior lights have quit working and two speakers have blown. Im not hard on my vehicle. I do put a lot of miles on it, but it gets regular maintanence. I should not have to take it in for warranty work 4 times in the first year. Simply inexcusable. Its fun to drive when everything actually works! What problems can I expect in the future?

Great Truck - 2005 Chevrolet Colorado
By Brian Ludwig - September 1 - 8:25 pmMy wife and I have owned our Colorado for just over a year now. She uses it to travel for work and as our grocery getter. So far the truck has only given us one problem and that is with the sterio speakers. We keep the oil changed and the tires balanced and rotated, the alignment gets checked every 3 to 4 months, and is only slightly out in toe as expected. Other than that, basic maintainance, and the truck is awesome. I would recomend this truck to anyone wanting a clear view of the road and who doesnt tow heavy loads, especially if you have kids or pets. We just wish it got a little better milage (Best 22 on highway, 19 in town). Thank you Chevrolet.

Great truck - 2005 Chevrolet Colorado
By JIMW - August 31 - 11:50 pmWhen the Colorado came out, I had a ZR2 S10 I thought I would never part with. After driving and looking the Colorado over I bought one. Good gas mileage, smooth ride, and when you want to get up and go, it takes off smooth and fast. I am impressed with it. No trouble with it. I have had it 6 months got the Z-71 4x4 try one out.

Colorado - 2005 Chevrolet Colorado
By bigredman - August 31 - 6:19 pmThe Colorado is a great looking truck, on the outside that is. I would trade the interior of my truck for an older model S-10 anyday. The seats and door panels are both very cheap in appearance. In fact, the only good thing about the interior is the leg room. Im 65 and I fit very well.

2004 Colorado Z71 very disappointing - 2004 Chevrolet Colorado
By clevelandgirly - August 23 - 1:24 amI have had one problem after another with this truck. Started with feeling an air leak in the doors/windows on passenger side, then the heater fan would squeek, then the windows needed new regulators, then it wouldnt start and would buck when trying to turn over, then the a/c needed serviced when it had never been used before. I was told that a Service Bulletin was issued regarding these problems. Now its difficult to start at times and shakes when it wont turn over. A new truck with less than 13,000 miles on it shouldnt have this many problems, nor should it have been in the shop 6 times in 9 months. Shame on GM/Chevrolet. I am taking this one to arbitration. What a disappointment!

Very satisfied, but room for change - 2005 Chevrolet Colorado
By Scott - August 20 - 11:21 amThe appearance of the 05 Colorado is one of the best Ive seen. The four door design and the addition of the side curtain airbags were a selling point. I have noticed tight quarters near the gas/brake pedals which concern me the longer I drive it. The exhaust noise doesnt seem to fit the statement the tough exterior makes. With a few changes Im confident that the Colorado will be the leading compact truck on the market.
