Model Overview:

The Chevrolet Colorado is Chevy's entry in the highly competitive compact truck segment. Like its rivals, the Colorado is closer to midsize than truly compact. Accordingly, it offers a reasonable amount of hauling capability without the added cost and bulk of a full-size pickup. As is customary in this segment, Chevrolet offers extended-cab and four-door crew-cab layouts, multiple bed lengths and available off-road preparation.

Older versions of the Chevy Colorado could be worth a look if you need a basic work truck, but their four- and five-cylinder engines are weak for this class (though you may find a few examples with a robust optional V8 engine). Colorados from 2015 and later are dramatically better, with competitive powertrains, up-to-date technology features and a spacious interior.

I bought my truck a week ago, and have had some pleasent surprises and some letdowns. First I would strongly recommend the 3.5 5cyl. I couldnt imagine the performance of the 4. I came from a 6cyl s-10 and I must admit it takes getting used to. secondly the interior is sparse but much more room than I expected. I was very happy with the power in 4WD, they seem to have traded straight power for extreme torque. I felt much more confident off-road in this than I ever did in the s-10. All in all a decent truck but nothing to get excited about.

  • Four wheel drive search. - 2005 Chevrolet Colorado

I was looking for a four wheel drive truck. I was going to buy another toyota truck like the one I was driving now. So, I went to the Toyota dealership. I was surprised in a bad way. Toyota has beccome one slick marketing item like all the rest of them. Nice slick paint jobs, lots of gadgets, impressive stuff to fool the green horns into thinking they were driving the real monster here. Not to mention real nice prices here too. Disappointed, went to the chevy dealership across the street, I first thought I was wasting my time, until I drove one. More imppressive power than the toyota, yeah more guts. No fancy gadgets, just plain stuff. I love it!

I love my Colorado LS. It has plenty of power. It has good looks, and a nicely designed interior that is comfortable. It has nice options including traction control, compass, thermometer, sliding back glass, power windows, auto darkening rearview, fog lights, 3.5 liter engine, 6 cd changer, and a good trim package. It gets good fuel mileage. The pricing was right too. To me there is just no other truck that compares. I get exited just thinking about driving it to work. I just love driving it!

Great all around truck for me. Love the exterior, sharper than all of the competition. The interior isnt anything special, but its a truck, not a Cadillac. On long trips my right leg sits uncomfortable due to the transmission hub while using the cruise. But, I am 64". I dont haul much, so it was a great fit. Engine has plenty of power and does all that I ask of it. I dont hot rod around town but when I press the gas, its always been there. Feels like it has more if I needed it. Very fun in snow. The truck brakes well, it doesnt seem to nose-dive at quick stops (could be the Z71 suspension). I averaged 20 mpg all around for the last year. Not one regret since I bought.

Truck is a great size for someone who doesnt want a full size. Rides great, gets excellent highway mileage (23- 25mpg), good city (16-18mpg), however when it is cold out and you have the heat on or the 4x4 expect (13-14mpg).

  • This truck does what you need it to do - 2006 Chevrolet Colorado

I couldnt be happier with my truck. It has decent passing speed to get around annoying drivers. Plenty of horses for a 4 cyl 5 speed. Does better on fuel than I expected. Im getting about 25 on the highway and about 16 in the city. The ride is sweet when you arent taking it down dirt roads. There is plenty of room inside and comfortable seating, but if you want to lay the seat back and snooze, forget it! The seat wont even move. But if you want a truck that will do what you need it to do and not empty out your bank account or drink a lot of fuel, you gotta get this truck.

I was tired of my older Nissan P/U, no power, no interior space and so on. I was going to buy a new Ford F-150, but after seeing a Colorado on the freeway I decided to go look at one. I was starting to get hooked on the looks of the Z71, then drove it and wow, the power of that small engine. Everything about it suited me perfect. Its been 9 months now and Im happier than ever about buying it!

  • Average truck - 2005 Chevrolet Colorado

This is a pretty average truck. It doesnt really excel in any area. I went on a trip to Wisconsin and was driving thru the mountains and the little 4 cylinder engine could not take it. Its comfortable inside but not great. Long trips are tiring. The manual is pretty good but needs a broader range of shifting. And what is up with no key holes on the passenger door?!!!

Not quite the performance and reliability I was hoping for out of my truck. Ive been to the dealer several times since buying it to reset the check engine light codes, and have a creaky suspension.

Fun truck to drive, very sporty & handles very well. Just wish the seats were little bit more comfortable.
