Overview & Reviews
The Chevrolet Colorado is Chevy's entry in the highly competitive compact truck segment. Like its rivals, the Colorado is closer to midsize than truly compact. Accordingly, it offers a reasonable amount of hauling capability without the added cost and bulk of a full-size pickup. As is customary in this segment, Chevrolet offers extended-cab and four-door crew-cab layouts, multiple bed lengths and available off-road preparation.
Older versions of the Chevy Colorado could be worth a look if you need a basic work truck, but their four- and five-cylinder engines are weak for this class (though you may find a few examples with a robust optional V8 engine). Colorados from 2015 and later are dramatically better, with competitive powertrains, up-to-date technology features and a spacious interior.

Ouch - 2004 Chevrolet Colorado
By JA - February 2 - 12:23 pmI was pretty pleased with my Colorado until recently. I purchased it new 2.5 years ago. Great ride. Great gas mileage. Good in the snow. The starter had to be replaced after 6 months. My check engine light recently came on. Took it to the dealership. They tell me a cylinder needs replaced. $3,000+. Whoa! Of course the warranty has expired too. This shouldnt happen. The truck isnt that old and I hear of others with the same problem.

Needs Fine Tuning - 2007 Chevrolet Colorado
By Lionel - January 30 - 10:27 pmThis would be a great truck if it was fine tuned. It needs better interior and gas mileage. The high back rear seats block your rear vision. People say the V6S are better, but my 5 will out run the Tacoma V6

Great Truck - 2006 Chevrolet Colorado
By Agdude - January 27 - 8:12 pmI use the heck out of my truck. It is an 06 with 53.5k miles on it. I have the I-5 crew cab 2wd and love it. I get approx 23 mpg each tank combined, and never have had a problem with it mechanically. If you want reliability and good gas mileage then this truck is great. If you are looking for something fun to drive, I wouldnt recommend this truck. Its nice just nothing special. The lumbar support knob is weak and cracked within 3 months of owning my truck. The CD player acts funny when it plays CDs (volume adjustment lags). This truck is tough though and has lots of power. My only regret is not getting a 4x4 but was limited by price.

Engine Problems - 2004 Chevrolet Colorado
By C Amey - January 24 - 11:08 pmI had one of the cylinders worked on after 2 months and now after 2 and a half years need to have the entire cylinder head replaced - $4,000, of course out of warranty and with no help from GM. To be honest thats only the start of all the problems that Ive had with the vehicle. The quality and reliability on this vehicle stinks along with GM customer service. Ill never by another GM.

Like It Not Love It - 2005 Chevrolet Colorado
By Hammer Time - January 22 - 2:20 pmGreat truck if you dont need or want a full size truck. I had a S10 with a 4.3 V6. This 5cyl has plenty of go power but I miss the engine braking. When you back off the gas it coast on and on. Im afraid this will wear the brakes out sooner. The frame is much stifer and the ride on this 4x4 with the Z71 package is better then what I had with the 2wd S10.

Working Out - 2005 Chevrolet Colorado
By Chris - January 17 - 2:02 pmLike many others, I had looked seriously at the Tacomas, but for what you get the price difference is too great. For $28,000 you dont get leather, power seats, etc. Ive go 26,000 miles on my Coly now and havent had a problem yet. Ive upped the tires to BFG ATs 32s, leveled the front, added a Magnaflow exhaust, K&N cold intake and it really goes. Sounds much closer to the rugged looks of the Z71. Even with the bigger tires, the mileage still hits within range the estimates. Yes, the PCM was calibrated for the tires. Its fun, quick enough and the leather seats are anything but uncomfortable.

Last Chevy I buy - 2006 Chevrolet Colorado
By got_rut - January 11 - 2:20 pmThis is the by far the cheapest truck I have owned. It shakes like crazy when you drive over 50 MPH. The suspension makes a horrible squeeking noise when you turn or use the brakes. For god sake the tailgate cables arent even the same length. This truck has been in the shop 12 times for a number of problems and I only have 6000 miles on it. When I was truck shopping, I couldnt justify spending $28--30000, so I bought this truck. I would suggest doing some serious shopping around before you make the decision to save $2000. Think about every aspect before the purchase. PS there is a reason that GM is giving such good incentives to buy their vehicles. Maybe they arent that good!

Leaky 2004 Colorado - 2004 Chevrolet Colorado
By Kate J Triplett - January 9 - 12:28 pmDrivers side of cab has been filling with water ever since we got this pickup. Our dealership techs have been unable to fix this, despite repeated stays in their shop. Its been with them since before Thanksgiving this round (Jan.8,2007). For a brand new vehicle, this is unacceptable. We are looking into lemon law for resolution with GM.

Beats imports hands down - 2006 Chevrolet Colorado
By chevyschubert - January 7 - 9:49 pmThe truck runs great. I have only had my truck for 10 months now and I have drivein over 12,000 miles and no problems. I got it with 14 miles on it and the mpg leveled out at 20-21 in city with my driving (fast light take off, steady speed of 40-55mph, fast stop and go.) I nailed a curb at 45-50 mpg and only bent the rim. I have the most standard package avalible. My entire family has GM produts and the reliability is outstanding and 2 to none and one place over Dodge which I have owned. The Colorado is by far the best modern mid-sized truck for the money and investment. This is the 2nd best truck I have owned next to the 64 Chevy El Camino I have.

Never Buy a First-Year Product! - 2004 Chevrolet Colorado
By j_r_denver - January 6 - 12:50 amThis truck replaced a 2001 Dodge Dakota. It is equipped as a 4x4 extended cab with the I-4 engine, which is a horrible mismatch for a truck of this weight. The construction of the box is terrible, with noticeable gaps in the welds where the floor of the box joins the front wall. It came from the factory with the front end out of alignment. It has had non-stop power steering problems, The pump was replaced under warranty, after having not been properly filled at the factory. The replacement was also noisy. It is now down because of failure of the high- pressure hose. Several bowtie-fan friends have called it a lousy representation of a what a Chevy truck should be.
