Model Overview:

The Chevrolet Colorado is Chevy's entry in the highly competitive compact truck segment. Like its rivals, the Colorado is closer to midsize than truly compact. Accordingly, it offers a reasonable amount of hauling capability without the added cost and bulk of a full-size pickup. As is customary in this segment, Chevrolet offers extended-cab and four-door crew-cab layouts, multiple bed lengths and available off-road preparation.

Older versions of the Chevy Colorado could be worth a look if you need a basic work truck, but their four- and five-cylinder engines are weak for this class (though you may find a few examples with a robust optional V8 engine). Colorados from 2015 and later are dramatically better, with competitive powertrains, up-to-date technology features and a spacious interior.

  • The Bitterness of Poor Quality - 2005 Chevrolet Colorado
    By -

In the year that Ive owned this truck, Ive gone through 3 sets of tires, 8 alignments, 2 body control modules, and 2 brake light switches. Chevy knows about a serious problem with the front suspension on this truck (theyve issued 5 service bulletins to their dealerships on this subject) that causes the front tires to wear prematurely and excessive vibration. The truck wont hold an alignment. What is worse is that Ive been in the process of lemon lawing this truck since March and Chevrolet refuses to acknowledge or take responsibility for the problem. The tires are so bad now that the treads are separating. Whatever you do spare yourself the horrible experience of owning a Colorado.

  • Good Truck for the Money - 2006 Chevrolet Colorado

This is a great truck. The 5 cylinder engine is silky smooth although the gas mileage could be better. The ride is firm but comfortable. Some extra lateral support in the seats would be good. I was amazed at how quiet it is inside-even at highway speeds. Outstanding leg room for driver and front seat passenger. Fit and finish is above average.

  • Far from best - 2007 Chevrolet Colorado

I choose this truck because the price was right, however I definitely got what I paid for. 4000 miles on it and Ive had it serviced 6 times already. Doors wont close properly when its cold, door strikers had to be replaced. Box rattled and needed parts, 4wheel drive broke and needed to be fixed, wind noise from doors... to name a few problems. Luckily it was all warranteed. Wont buy GM again.

  • Excellent Pickup - 2005 Chevrolet Colorado

I have driven on dry, wet, snow and ice roads. This pick-up handles well in all those conditions. Love the L-5 engine. Has plenty of power. Ride is great.

  • The Worst Truck Chevy Ever Built - 2004 Chevrolet Colorado
    By -

I purchased this pickup in 2004 basically due to the rising cost of gas. It has been a electronic nightmare. First the heater messed up, they changed it under warranty. Next the radio would not go off. They looked at it said found nothing. Next the bolts on the door fell off they been replaced twice more. Now the heater is making noises again. The bolt is off the door again, which causes a popping noise each time you open the door. And yesterday the drivers side window would not roll down. And of course it is no longer under warranty. And it has a recall because the brake lights fail to work. Ive owed 4 Chevy trucks and the Colorado is not a lower price truck, but just a cheap made truck.

My Colorado has been such a let down. It feels way too light going down the road. It bounces and is not responsive. Although aesthetically the car is nice, it just did not perform the way I thought it should.

  • (singing) I love my truck! - 2005 Chevrolet Colorado

Being "mom," I always had the "family" vehicle. The Chevy Colorado allows me to have the family vehicle and a truck at the same time. I can haul and transport family, and whatever else I want easily.

  • Great Small Truck! - 2005 Chevrolet Colorado

Driving this vehicle has been a pleasure. It has taken me as far north as upstate NY and as far south as Florida. I also drove it to Colorado hunting. Thats why it has as many miles on it as it does.

Good truck, had rattles when first owned, dealer took care of with two visits. 17.5mpg city with A/C on, 18+ with A/C off, 22+ highway. Good little work truck. Rides like a truck.

  • Pleasantly Surprised - 2007 Chevrolet Colorado

I had an 06 CC Colorado that was a rattle box and traded it in. The build quality seems to have improved and the truck now has a more solid feel. There still is a little too much plastic on the inside, but overall this is a fun truck to drive. I cant speak to the reliability until Ive had it awhile. Steering is crisp and responsive. Braking could be a little better. The interior cosmetic changes are nice too.
