Model Overview:

The Chevrolet Colorado is Chevy's entry in the highly competitive compact truck segment. Like its rivals, the Colorado is closer to midsize than truly compact. Accordingly, it offers a reasonable amount of hauling capability without the added cost and bulk of a full-size pickup. As is customary in this segment, Chevrolet offers extended-cab and four-door crew-cab layouts, multiple bed lengths and available off-road preparation.

Older versions of the Chevy Colorado could be worth a look if you need a basic work truck, but their four- and five-cylinder engines are weak for this class (though you may find a few examples with a robust optional V8 engine). Colorados from 2015 and later are dramatically better, with competitive powertrains, up-to-date technology features and a spacious interior.

  • Reduced Engine Power - 2007 Chevrolet Colorado

Bought truck new. Has been fine other than the lousy fuel economy. 260 miles or less per tank of fuel on the highway, so I am not sure how you others are getting such "good" mileage. Have had the Reduced Power / Check Engine warning light come on 3 times in the last month. First time they said it was a bad battery cell, the second time they asked me if it had been jumped off, to which I answered no! Now I wonder what they will blame it on. It is under warranty thank God and either it will be fixed or else. I am not happy right now and would not recommend the truck to any buyer. I had a 98 Ford Ranger that never gave me a problem. And Chevy is wondering why they are hurting? Duh!

  • Not as good as a Toyota - 2005 Chevrolet Colorado
    By -

I bought this truck instead of a Tacoma and wish that I did not. My full size GMC Z71 was better on fuel, better comfort, and better made. I average 16.5 mpg in Va. I got 17 - 18mpg on the 5.3l V8. The truck is noisy, and the interior does not appear that it will hold up. This will be my last Colorado.

  • Worst new vehicle purchase Ive made - 2005 Chevrolet Colorado
    By -

I had the vehicle in for warranty work 11 times. Electrical problems since early on that the dealership said they couldnt find replaced 5 headlamps, 4 brake lamps, and the majority of interior lights while still under warranty. Other items replaced: power window motor, heater control switch, rails for front seat. Today I took it to get u-joints replaced, third front end alignment, rear brake shoes. Mgr said these "shoes" were most expensive he has seen! He said all parts for it are high. Watch out if you need front rotors replaced make inquiry!) gas mileage 13/15.(4 cyl, sticker said 18/25) At present, pwr windows, locks, mirror control, 5 int lights, 3 ext lights not working. 62K miles

  • Bad Apple - 2008 Chevrolet Colorado

I bought my 2008 truck new Dec 27, 2007 (it only have 2400 miles on it now ) and it has spent more time in the shop than on the road. If it setup for a few days it will not start and the dealer feels that the problem is resovled but I do not. I am afraid to use this vehicle for out of town trips because I will never know if it will leave me stranded in another state. This is truly a let down since I have been a Chevy man for thirty five years. I feel that a 2008 vehicle should be more reliable than its predecessors.

  • Colorado better than it looks but - 2004 Chevrolet Colorado
    By -

Three months after I bought it iIwas in a wreck, saved my life, but since then the power windows motor has gone out in both windows, one after the other. The interior is bigger than it looks in regular cab. Runs great considering I drive it about 70 miles a day, could use better gas mileage though.

  • Waste of my money - 2004 Chevrolet Colorado
    By -

I saved my money all through highschool and my dad through in half, I got a Colorado for 22k. A year and a half later, 3 power steering pumps, 2 motors, and one steer column. Its worth half what I bought it and the problems keep coming. I cant complain about the gas mileage and it gets going but the problems arent worth it. Im overly displeased with my truck

  • Disappointed in reliability - 2007 Chevrolet Colorado
    By -

At less than 10000 miles reduced power and check engine light kept coming on about every two or three weeks. I called the dealership and waqs told that I would have to drive it in with thr reduced power on for them to find the problem. As I write this the truck is under the garage and will not start. Put in new battery and stil nothing. Will call dealership tomorrow and have it towed to the shop. Very disappointed in a truck thats only a year old. Never know what going to go wrong next.

  • Electrical Gremlins! - 2004 Chevrolet Colorado
    By -

I purchased the 04 model in 05. Nice looking truck but here is the issues I have had. ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS!!! Brake lights just stop working intermittently. (Rear ended twice but cant prove the lights were not working at time) I had the driver side door locks replaced twice! Drv side windows "sometimes" dont work. Now psngr side windows dont work. "sometimes" AC fan is noisy. (Very annoying!) Fuel rating is wrong. I only get about 17 mpg if I am lucky and have the wind blowing behind me. It already burned up the cat conv in only 40k miles!

  • My last Chevy - 2006 Chevrolet Colorado

There are just too many small trucks around today to have to settle for a Colorado. The actual mpg is far less than rated, the fit & finish trim work very poor, (loose and flimsy) and still priced around the better quality made trucks.

I owned the truck since May of 07, it has 9000 miles on it and its been in the shop 3 times all fuel related. Had to run premium in it so it wouldnt spark knock under load. I also had valve clatter on cold start up lasted 10 sec. The first time I took the truck in when the engine light came on they said I wasnt running the right fuel. It seems the truck has to run on top tier fuel from kwicktrip so I started running top tier in the engine. Had trouble again took it back to the dealer they said the have to replace the cylinder head because the valves were bad. The idle also sticks around 2800 rpm once and a while. Im getting rid of the truck in 2008 wouldnt buy one again.
