Overview & Reviews
The Chevrolet Colorado is Chevy's entry in the highly competitive compact truck segment. Like its rivals, the Colorado is closer to midsize than truly compact. Accordingly, it offers a reasonable amount of hauling capability without the added cost and bulk of a full-size pickup. As is customary in this segment, Chevrolet offers extended-cab and four-door crew-cab layouts, multiple bed lengths and available off-road preparation.
Older versions of the Chevy Colorado could be worth a look if you need a basic work truck, but their four- and five-cylinder engines are weak for this class (though you may find a few examples with a robust optional V8 engine). Colorados from 2015 and later are dramatically better, with competitive powertrains, up-to-date technology features and a spacious interior.

Great truck - 2008 Chevrolet Colorado
By Frank Evan - December 1 - 4:36 pmThis is an excellent basic truck! Very roomy & good pep from engine. 3 trips approximately 400 miles ea and I get 25-26 mpg (automatic transmission). These trips have multiple small towns to pass through, hwy speed is mostly 60-65mph. I do not know where the Feds get their mpg information. I have always got the advertised or higher mpg on every vehicle I have owned. Zero quality problems with this truck but only 6&1/2 months ownership.

Regular Cab LS / Automatic w/3.5 - 2005 Chevrolet Colorado
By KC - November 29 - 12:10 pmThe truck rides and drives just like a midsize car, not like what most people think of for a pickup trip. I have the base suspension, not the stiff off road suspension, yet I have 4WD. That makes for a much smoother ride. Even my wife thinks it drives and rides very well. The seats are supportive yet comfortable. So far, a great purchase for our family! :)

A true American shops at home! - 2005 Chevrolet Colorado
By George Bourque - November 25 - 4:19 pmI have driven the 05 Colorado 5cyl.w/auto & 3.43 gears for 2.5 yrs now w/no problems. Ive personalized some w/16x8 American racing wheels that had counterbored to fit 2,5yrs now. Added SS fender trim to existing flares. SS bedrails and caps sprayed bedliner and many more mods. As to performance Ive hauled 5000 lbs manlifts with this truck while loaded w/over 1200lbs of tools in the bed & cab. the tools have in the cab for allthis time and I still avg.19-21mpg. I add Im not a litefoot driver. I would seriously consider in the future replacing this truck with another Colorado. Over the long run this one thing the X-perts are not the best source of info. you should speak to the horses mouth.

Electrical Gremlins! - 2004 Chevrolet Colorado
By Rick - November 13 - 8:56 amI purchased the 04 model in 05. Nice looking truck but here is the issues I have had. ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS!!! Brake lights just stop working intermittently. (Rear ended twice but cant prove the lights were not working at time) I had the driver side door locks replaced twice! Drv side windows "sometimes" dont work. Now psngr side windows dont work. "sometimes" AC fan is noisy. (Very annoying!) Fuel rating is wrong. I only get about 17 mpg if I am lucky and have the wind blowing behind me. It already burned up the cat conv in only 40k miles!

2007 Colorado Is Great - 2007 Chevrolet Colorado
By JohnC - November 9 - 10:44 pmIve owned this truck for several months and have nothing but good experiences, except at the pump. The ride is great, 5 cylinder runs smooth, and the transmission shifts perfectly. Im not sure about the reviews that say this truck is underpowered compared to foreign trucks with V6s. Its a truck, not a dragster.I have no complaints on acceleration. This is a solid truck. I love the people who complain about design features, jeez, dont you look at a vehicle before you buy it.

Good little truck - 2006 Chevrolet Colorado
By Jack - November 8 - 8:17 amI bought a 2 wheel drive work truck, couldnt afford the 4 wheel or the fancy models, but i have been pleased with the performance. It handles the logging roads in Maine without a care. It has crossed small streams and handled rutted muddy roads without issue. I live on a mountain and with studded snow tires I have made it home in the worst nor easters like it was a july day. The gas mileage is good. I average 23 day to day here in the foot hills of the Berkshires and get 25 plus on trips. The regular cab is wide enough and the seats are comfortable on long trips with plenty of leg room. Its not a rocket ship but it moves out well when you step on it.

I was surprised - 2004 Chevrolet Colorado
By AdamJay - November 4 - 10:00 amPrior to test driving this truck I was a little leary as to the performance of the truck, even after reading many positive reviews. I took the truck on a 24hr test drive and all I can say is wow. It handles and performs like dream. We purchased the Sport ZQ8 and are very very happy.

Great truck - 2004 Chevrolet Colorado
By lcapozzi - November 4 - 10:00 amGreat overal truck 1000 miles driven. Easy to drive and handel. The only down fall I have found so far is the high back bucket seat limit vision throught the rear view mirror. But still a great truck. I would buy another.

Decent Truck - 2007 Chevrolet Colorado
By Da Truck Guy - October 24 - 3:35 pmA very enjoyable and capable truck. Bought a 3LT Z71 4X4. Gets pretty good mileage 20-22 MPG to and from work. On a road trip (2000 miles) we got 23 MPG. Plenty of power when you need it but not the fastest. Got leather seats and is comfortable. This truck is way ahead of the S10 I replaced. Bad side: Had issues with steering shaft at 500 miles. Only to find out it was a common problem (GM knew) and then had to wait due to nationwide backlog. If they knew this upfront, they should have fixed it prior to selling it. As a result I have a bad taste in my mouth about GM (and we are a GM Family). May consider another brand on next purchase. But since it has been fixed we have had no issues.
