Model Overview:

The Chevrolet Colorado is Chevy's entry in the highly competitive compact truck segment. Like its rivals, the Colorado is closer to midsize than truly compact. Accordingly, it offers a reasonable amount of hauling capability without the added cost and bulk of a full-size pickup. As is customary in this segment, Chevrolet offers extended-cab and four-door crew-cab layouts, multiple bed lengths and available off-road preparation.

Older versions of the Chevy Colorado could be worth a look if you need a basic work truck, but their four- and five-cylinder engines are weak for this class (though you may find a few examples with a robust optional V8 engine). Colorados from 2015 and later are dramatically better, with competitive powertrains, up-to-date technology features and a spacious interior.

Love the truck. Have 14000 miles on it. The Crush color gets a lot of (I like that truck).

  • Mechanical issues - 2017 Chevrolet Colorado
    By -

We were very excited when we purchased our 2017 Colorado. Beautiful truck and well designed inside and out, but I guess they should have paid attention to the mechanics of the vehicle and the quality of the paint. Our driver’s door handle has to be replaced due to the paint chipping off and at 9900 miles it is sitting at the dealership waiting for a torque converter and I am number 2 in line of 8 trucks waiting. GM seems to have lacked quality in mechanics as we have a 2009 Silverado and it has 92000 miles on it and absolutely no issues. Would I buy the Colorado again? No. Like so many have said in other reviews I didn’t buy a new truck to be at the dealerships service department all the time. And the turn around to receive the part is horrible. I am now in my 3rd week waiting with no promises from GM.

Truck is beautiful. We have a very bad shutter when excelerating from low speed. Also have trouble with brakes grabbing. GM says it is normal and there is nothing they can do. We do not feel safe in the vehicle. If you are looking at this GM product, I suggest you look at something else.

  • Confused transmission !! - 2015 Chevrolet Colorado
    By -

It is a nice ride with a transmission problem that should have never been in any new vehicle. The shift and spike in rpm during shifts is a disgrace. I had it cut off on me the other day. It started back up but it leaves me worried about when will that become an issue. I have had several Chevy cars and trucks in my life but this is my last.

  • Ok.... But just ok not worth the 36 K I paid! - 2015 Chevrolet Colorado
    By -

This was my dream truck I waited for a long time and saved and worked and saved and finally after I found it at my local dealership with everything I wanted I finally got to take it home and Ive just been mildly impressesd all the electronics extras cost extra. Now my $500 a month truck payment is $600 a month. Ive taken it to the dealership 5 times in 4 months. Ill be honest my last car was a used BMW 325i. Maybe Im new to the truck market and this is to be expected. My buddy who has the Top of the Line Ford F150 Platinum 4 x4 says my truck is awesome but Ive had so many problems and for a 4 month old truck Im wondering how the hell is this thing going to make it 60 months????? My seats are ripping after 4k miles on a Z71. I would have take leather for what Im paying. The rear end clicks when I push the gas pedal at a stand still.... answer from chevy "oh thats normal there needs to be play in the rear end" really because the 3 other late model El Caminos Ive owned never had play in the rear end! They were built 20 years ago!! Im still a proud Chevy owner but Im just pissed that the brand has fallen so far. Do I need to buy the Silverado Z71 that doesnt look off road worthy at all? Am I crazy The Z71 Silverado doesnt look like it could handle any sort of off road conditions. Dont even get me started about the wind damn in the front of the truck. Ive almost ripped that thing off on curbs. You want me to get this thing stuck Ill come back missing half the damn plastic just from my normal hiking spot. I asked the dealership hey can you take that off? His reply was " Oh you wanted to take this truck off road"? Well it might void your warranty? Really? Because the whole reason I bought this damn truck was to get to the trailheads I couldnt get to with my damn foreign car! Im Legitimately concerned about my truck making it to the 60 month mark. Thats not what american cars, especially trucks are built on and I feel cheated. This might be my reality, but Ill tell you this I didnt work [non-permissible content removed] to cheated for some hard earned steal and muscle that I feel I deserve.

  • Expect about 10 years life - 2011 Chevrolet Colorado
    By -

I bought the truck new in 2011. Regular cab 1 Lt 4X4 Currently the frame rails have rust up and down them. I expect the rust to eat through the thin frame rails in less than 10 years from now. My 99 Dakota has thicker frame rails and also more black paint on them.

  • British Sports Car/Truck - 2008 Chevrolet Colorado
    By -

Bought this truck brand new in Fall 2008. Its now July 2014, less than 65k on the truck-have so far replaced heat shield (5k), headlight (10k), lumbar&blower(18k), ignition (40k), fuel pump (50k), fuel line (55k). The 5-cyl engine must be warmed up or it sputters on the next start (why?). Once it is running it is like a British sports car-I love the way it looks, handles, the engine has plenty of power & low-end torque and sounds great. But its also like a BSC in that there is always something to fix! Gas mileage is outpaced by full-size models (my 2WD Z71 Crew Cab gets 16/20.5 on flat Florida roads). Lackluster interior w/ no tech. GM knows how to build better trucks, but didnt try.

  • Brake lights door locks and alarms - 2007 Chevrolet Colorado

  • Wimpy gas burner. - 2006 Chevrolet Colorado
    By -

This I5 engine is terrible. It runs like a 4 cylinder and burns gas like a 6 cylinder. The truck itself is generally comfortable and somewhat stylish, but it really needed a better engine and something that could get mileage closer to the estimate on the sticker. Ive owned since it was new and Ive actually had no major problems, but Im tired of fighting the fuel bills and the lack of power.

  • Bad Engine - 2006 Chevrolet Colorado
    By -

Around 2500 mile i had loss of power. And then around 16,000 mile timing chain and gears were replaced. And then around 18,000 mile the oil pump went out which caused the engine to go out. now it has been in the shop for about 8 weeks and GENERAL MOTORS says its not there problem because it is 2010 now even though problems started under there factory warranty. it has been a nightmare. i have always liked gm up till now, it wont happen again.
