Overview & Reviews
Audi's entry-level sedan and wagon are all new for 2002. Along with a redesigned body structure and new sheet metal, the new A4 receives a variety of changes to make it sportier. It is motivated by either a 170-horsepower 1.8-liter turbocharged four or a completely new 3.0-liter 220-horsepower V6, which can be mated to a six-speed manual transmission. Making its debut this year for non-quattro models is a continuously variable transmission (CVT), also known as multitronic. An in-dash six-disc CD changer and a dual-zone auto climate control top the standard features list.

Love my red a4 3.0 quattro - 2002 Audi A4
By Andy Wessels - February 25 - 11:39 amGreat car, super fun to drive. Plenty of torque at normal rpm range and lots of grip around the corners! Front seats are plush and comfy although rear seating is tight. Car is equipped with power everything mirrors, sunfoof, windows, seats, etc... This cars grip, power, and planted feel blew my mind when I first test drove it. Before i had a 2001 passat 2.8, and this thing just runs circles around that. Great car that i would recommend.

Like the other reviews - 2002 Audi A4
By elewsader - December 17 - 7:33 pmMuch like the other reviews, this car was fabulous from an interior fit and finish perspective, but something was always breaking and it was always costly I had wiper linkage seize up which was over $300, H.I.D light (dipped headlight) which was $300, and many more. It seemed like everything that had an issue it was $300 or more. There were also odd electrical gremlins with the radio and sunroof (sunroof was blamed on a potentiometer, and the radio was blamed on lithium grease in the door connectors). I got great gas mileage on this car but overall its a great car if you can afford the pricey repairs. - 1.8t six speed automatic, fwd model

Disappointed - 2002 Audi A4
By COdriver - September 24 - 2:00 amThis thing is a money pit. Cant believe how much it costs to fix every little thing. Have had the car almost 4 years now & I cant take it any more. If you happen to be looking at one of these things, stay away.

Too many expensive repairs - 2002 Audi A4
By TWally - June 10 - 2:45 pmThe 2002 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro was fun to drive and great in the snow but the repairs killed the bank! They were so expensive and something was always going wrong with the car. I wouldnt suggest buying one or any Audi for that matter unless you are willing to put thousands into the car! Buyer beware!

So Long, Audi - 2002 Audi A4
By Im Gonna Miss Her.. - January 29 - 3:20 pmBought this car almost two years ago from an Audi dealership. Sadly, the engine has failed due to the infamous oil sludge build-up issue in the 1.8T engine. Car was always maintained at Audi dealer. The car is beautiful...but it will be moving on to greener pastures with someone who would like to put a new engine in it. Timing belt also had to be replaced, ignition coils, etc. Too many recalls for "Truth in Engineering", Audi.

A4 quattro 1.8 - 2002 Audi A4
By yo_mikeyyy - November 10 - 11:20 pmI purchased this car with 57k miles 2 years ago. Now I have 84k and I only had a few problems. Power steering fluid was leaking and engine speed sensor and also my moonroof wont stay open. I enjoy driving the car especially in the winter when theres snow on the ground! Its fun! I havent had a major problem but I am scared coz someone I know has the same exact car and his timing belt broke at 85k. It is not a cheap car to fix nor maintain but I try my best.

Great little car - 2002 Audi A4
By Lyle H. - August 21 - 12:55 pmI originally bought the 5sp. manual Audi A4 1.8t used with 95,000 miles on the odometer. 15 minutes after driving it away from the dealer, the car nearly broke down, so we drove it back and they replaced an engine coil and all was fine. I went about 10,000 miles with an oil change every 3k miles, and one day when I started it up the engine was acting funny and the check engine and oil light came on, indicating that there were signs of oil sludge buildup, which I read is quite common in the 1.8t, due to design flaw. Now, the radio acts up. However I love this car regardless. Such a fun, attractive, luxurious little car.

Drives nice but unrekiable - 2002 Audi A4
By plewis100 - June 21 - 2:00 amIve had my 2002 A4 Quattro for one year. On the plus side, the car is fun to drive, comfortable and looks great. However the negatives quickly overwhelm any positive aspects of this car. In the first year the car was immobilized for 29 days at the dealer waiting for a new ignition coil. In addition Ive had 2 radios replaced and many minor electrical problems. Ive lost all confidence in reliability of the car and prefer our 5 year old, 88,000 mile Subaru Outback for longer trips.I hate to think what problems Ill have after the warranty expires. I doubt if I will ever buy another Audi.

Waiting for the other shoes to drop - 2002 Audi A4
By Tim H - December 10 - 5:42 pmIve put a steady 12K a year on this car in a mix of city & freeway driving, up to the 75K I have now. After the 4- year lease was up, which coincided with the 50K-mile warranty, I bought the car outright and on a hunch bought a 70K- mile extended warranty. Great hunch! It paid for itself twice over, but now that it has expired Im dreading the next major expense and wondering what it will be. Though I still love the vehicle, its looks & ride, it may be time to move on before the pit of mechanical-breakdown hell opens up. One amazing point: At 75K miles I have never needed new brakes thanks to careful driving and downshifting rather than braking at every opportunity (though I will soon)

Lemon Aid - 2002 Audi A4
By Susan - December 7 - 8:58 amToo many expensive repairs has taken the fun out of this car. I will miss the way it drives and extras, like the Bose stereo system, when I soon buy something different.
