This Year's Model Updates:

The entire Audi lineup receives a new 4-year/50,000-mile limited warranty and no-charge scheduled maintenance, a 12-year limited warranty against corrosion perforation, and 24-hour roadside assistance for four years. All A4s are now equipped with head protection airbags, have lengthier oil change intervals and an optional Electronic Stabilization Program (ESP). The 1.8T engine gets a horsepower boost from 150 to a racy 170 and meets ULEV standards.

Pros:
  • Available quattro all-wheel drive, powerful 1.8T motor, attractive exterior styling.
Cons:
  • Confusing dash layout, not much rear legroom, quattro version can feel lethargic.

  • tricked out A4 - 2001 Audi A4

I love my A4 to death, but Id never recommend one. Simply too many small problems the vac lines went (I replaced them myself), a bent hose "shredded itself," the ignition coils went out and were replaced by the dealership - but only one by one, even though they had a design flaw. In the mean time I had to have the car towed twice and drove it on three cylinders once - not fun. If youre into cars and dont mind repairing them yourself, go for it. I have mine completely tricked out with a stage 3 turbo upgrade (~280 hp/300 ft- lbs 310+ hp with race gas, for which I also have an additional program), upgraded coilover suspension, A8 brakes, swaybar, etc.

  • Most fun I ever had - 2001 Audi A4

This car handles like a dream. Takes the curves like its on rails. Accelerates quickly from a dead stop. Stock pirelli tires were destroyed by new york potholes, purchased Pilot A/S, no more blown tires. The interior is nice enough to get positive comments from passengers. The stereo is okay, but could be better. As for reliability, I had problems with the following: Oil pump, power windows, sunroof, locks, tensioner, recall on iginition coil. My next car will be a Japanese make for the reliability. Had my integra past 110,000 miles and only replaced clutch and brakes.

  • Lots of fun for a sedan - 2001 Audi A4

This is the very first Audi I have owned and I have been nothing but pleased. The car is able to maneuver perfectly in all weather conditions and has excellent headlights for night driving. I wouldnt call it roomy but it certainly offers a comfortable ride. Youll never have more fun driving your wifes grocery getter.

  • Buy an Acura instead - 2001 Audi A4

Do yourself a favor and buy an Acura or a Lexus instead. This isnt a truly awful car. My Ford Contour was a truly awful car. But this isnt a good car. I have had annoying problems since I drove it off the lot. Everything from the vanity light going out to the wiper blades hopping to the car not starting! The brake squeal is insufferable and is part of the design of the Audi brakes and they wont do anything about it. These problems are not acceptable and downright embarrassing from a $30k car.

I love the car overall. The transmission went out at 4000 miles. Slow off the line.

  • Good, if not great... - 2001 Audi A4

Ive done a variety of driving in this car, (city, highway, long trips), and its always performed nicely. Its fun to drive, feels rock solid, will go through almost anything with Quattro, responds nicely to all driver input and looks great. I wish it got better gas mileage and the interior was more comfortable. The armrest sucks, the cup holders blow, the automatic climate control system is on drugs half the time and the seats are less than luxurious. All that aside, (and those are some minor gripes), i think its a great car. Speaking of minor, the backseat is a joke, but what do i care, i sit up front!

  • I like it even more after owning it. - 2001 Audi A4

Ive extensively upgraded with performance parts since buying new in May of 2001. The car is incredibly fun to drive with plenty of power, while still remaining very fuel- efficient over long distances. Had the coil- pack replaced when recalled, had the cupholder replaced when the trim broke. Replaced one headlight bulb. Everything else is perfect!

  • Great traction - 2001 Audi A4

The steering with quattro is fantastic - travelling on a wet and rainy I-95 at speed, a wheel cover from an oncoming car, came over the central median - closing speed at least 140 mph. I swerved to avoid a direct hit the car calmly swung right and then back left to avoid the wheel cover and the car on the inside lane without missing a beat - having owned a BMW 540i previously I can safely say that had I been in that car I would not have stayed on the highway ! Also the handling is exceptional in snow conditions - brilliant, cannot say enough good things about the handling of this car.

  • A4 Avant - Amazing car! - 2001 Audi A4

Though a wagon, never feels like one. Handles like a dream. Puts a smile on the face of anyone who gets behind the wheel. Solid, jaunty, nervy car, handles on the curves like no other car on the road. You feel safe driving this thing and you are. Plus, if youre naughty and crank it up past 100, youll see what its all about: shakeless, silent splendor!
