This Year's Model Updates:

The entire Audi lineup receives a new 4-year/50,000-mile limited warranty and no-charge scheduled maintenance, a 12-year limited warranty against corrosion perforation, and 24-hour roadside assistance for four years. All A4s are now equipped with head protection airbags, have lengthier oil change intervals and an optional Electronic Stabilization Program (ESP). The 1.8T engine gets a horsepower boost from 150 to a racy 170 and meets ULEV standards.

Pros:
  • Available quattro all-wheel drive, powerful 1.8T motor, attractive exterior styling.
Cons:
  • Confusing dash layout, not much rear legroom, quattro version can feel lethargic.

  • Not What I Expected - 2001 Audi A4

I had high expectations for my Audi A4, and they have been dashed to pieces. I have had the same problem many others have had with engine coils (car broke down completely 3 times this year alone!) My dealership covered the repairs, but the hassle factor was extremely high. I also had to replace door speakers and had a problem with my drivers side airbag. My check engine light is on right now and as soon as I get it back from the dealership I am trading this car in. My mother also has an Audi A4 that she has had much worse problems with (replaced the entire engine twice along with the transmission!) My "Audi Experience" has not been a good one!

Overall, I cannot recommend this car. There are too many good vehicles out there to settle for this. Even though it drove well and we felt very safe on it, reliability has been poor, dealership service has been so-so, and attitude at Audi of NA has been bad. Also, the car seemed to have no resale value. We traded it in before warranty expired and are now driving a Honda. We went through the coil recall, and it took 3 trips to the dealership (and 3 times almost stranded on the road) to fix. Audi refused to change remaining coils even though they knew they were defective: they said warranty only covers parts when they fail -they lost me as a client right there. We also had the clutch fail.

I purchased this vehicle with plans to moderately modify it with a chip and possibly Euro Xenon headlamps since the specific car that I was looking at did not come with Xenon lights. Well, who knew that Id have a lot more than just those modifications? Along with the chip(s) and lights, I have added Stasis Tracksport coilovers, StopTech brakes, Neuspeed rear anti-sway bar, Strat short shifter, Bailey bypass valve, a boost gauge in the center vent, APR snub mount and AWE DTS to firm up the drivetrain as well as a few other mods. The more I add to this car, the more I enjoy it at drivers schools via the Audi clubs and other high performance driving schools.

  • New to Audi - 2001 Audi A4

Purchased a pre-owned 2001 A4 1.8t Quattro. Sales experience: Best Ive ever had. Audi of Mendham, NJ, was fantastic in every respect and exceeded my expectations. Also looked at Infinity I30, Lexus ES300 and Acura TL. Infinity was more luxury oriented but dealership was beyond horrible (Lynnes in Bloomfield, NJ). Lexus was too expensive and the 2002 model made the 2001 look like crap (styling changes). Acura was great but exterior styling for 2001 was bland. The Car: Have to get used to turbo power coming on, but it does. Feels very luxurious, yet sporty enough to keep you "cool". Grips the road with confidence. Small interior can be a problem

This has been a great car for us. It is a lot of fun to drive and everyone at the dealerships go above and beyond to service their customers. Weve had the car for almost four years now and all that weve had to do is have the oil changed, which is included in the warranty. Owning our first Audi has been a great experience and I often recommend the A4 to others.

  • Exceptional - 2001 Audi A4

This car is exceptional in most every way. Classic AUDI handling/cornering coupled with the luxurious appointments. What I really like about this vehicle that no one speaks about is the TURBO aspect. It can be changed out with an aftermarket configuration and squeeze out much more performance with ease. It is not unrealistic to get 325+ hp out of this vehicle. Overall I think the AUDI A4 is absolutely beautiful.

  • Audi A4, great car - 2001 Audi A4

I love in Colorado where the quattro is very nice to have. I have just over 45,000 miles on my A4 and it has been very reliable. The only problem I have had is with the drivers side window whistling a bit. After 3 trips to the dealer, it was finally fixed, under warranty. Other than that, I absolutely love the car and plan to purchase it when it comes off of lease in August 2005.

An amazing car to own. It still puts a smile on my face quite frequently.

  • Almost perfect - Highly Recommended - 2001 Audi A4

After driving a 1999 1.8T (Ive been loyal to American car makers for too long) - I pulled it off the used market and decided to keep it after a month. I will never go back to US cars. With all the complaints on this forum regarding some experiences with reliability, it pales in comaprison. I traded the 99 in with 80k and the engine and tranny were in great shape. Now own a 2001 2.8 and am amazed at the improvement over the crisp performance of the 99 1.8T. Its styling is timeless and classic and IMO belongs with such classic designs as the 57 Chevy, 67 mustang, among others. This is a keeper. Buy Certified if used.

  • Not Worth It - 2001 Audi A4

I have a 67 Mustang that has less problems!!!. Nothing but electrical problems since Ive had it. ABS unit needed to be replaced twice (without a warning light...thats comforting), control box for door locks had to be replaced (couldnt even get in the car!!), most recently, had to have all dashboard electronics replaced after radio froze (couldnt change stations or anything) and dash disply went dead. If you have to have one, lease, and not for longer than the warranty.
