  • 5 Years and Going Strong - 1999 Audi A4

I bought this car new 5 years ago and I have had a smile ever since. I have comfortably driven it in temperatures ranging from -56F to 103F. The quattro traction system is unbeatable on snow and ice the car provides a great sense of stability and security. I have maintained it to the manual and at 70K miles I replaced all the belts and water pump as a preventative measure. I had only minor problems during the warranty period and all were repaired quickly and completely by the dealer. The Avant gives me most of the storage capacity of an SUV without the penalty of bulk.

lots of fun to drive, quattro makes it super on most any surface. look for narrow dirt roads and have a blast. new version looks good but I like the "pinch" on the top of the trunk on mine better.

Overall im very pleased with my vehicle However ive had a few problems with it. The drivers side window has been giving me issues. It appears to bind at times not wanting to go up also, the MFA illumination doesnt work well all the time. I wasnt expecting a cream puff since I bought it used but, these are issues I didnt expect these so soon. The car so far has been super reliable with great handling in any weather condition. I generally get about 27.5 mpg hwy and 23 in the city. Overall imvery happy with my purchase and would buy another A4.

  • My second Audi - 1999 Audi A4

After my lovely Jaguar XJS burnt up in a freak occurence, I was left with my 1996 Audi. Although I loved the roadability, I was ready for all the bells and whistles on my 1999. It really compares favorably to the much more expensive Jag, although I did love that car. The Audi is completely dependable and not expensive to keep on the road. I am thinking about getting a convertible.

  • Great car - 1999 Audi A4

I have driven this 5 speed 2.8 Quatro A4 for almost two years. I love to drive it. It is a very solid car with excellent handling and responsive brakes. The only negatives Ive found so far is the lack of room in the back seat and some maintenance. I did have to have some major work done on the cam and tensioner seals and the rear drive seals. These were covered in my extended warranty. It did take a week to get the parts and have them installed. This was a minor inconvenience to me.

  • Fun car... but not with all the probs!!! - 1999 Audi A4

These are great cars, but mine was in the shop more than my garage! From 50k to 60k miles it needed over $8000 in repairs, thank god for the extended warranty

  • Falling Apart - 1999 Audi A4

Loved the car when I bought it but friends warned me to get rid of an Audi after 50k miles. How true! The door handle latch broke recently and then the water pump seized and left me stranded on the highway. Suggest that future prospects think hard about status vs. reliability. Me? Im buying another Subaru. They DONT fall apart.

  • Dont do it! - 1999 Audi A4

Everything was fine for three years. The honeymoon is over. After maintaining the car to the letter and taking it to the dealer for regularly scheduled maintenance, the engine light came on. As a fluke I took it to a reputable independent mechanic who said the car looked like it had 150K on it when it barely has 50K - catalytic converter, control arm bushings, engine mounts, rear disc differentials, oxygen sensor and more. He recommended I take it back to the dealer. The dealer said it wasnt their problem. Audi refuses to cover everything except the catalytic converter. Im now looking at $4K worth of maintenance.

  • A cute, exciting lemon - 1999 Audi A4

This car is lots of fun to drive and the front seats are reasonably comfortable. The rear seats are really only for children and small adults. Unfortunately, as soon as this car came out of warranty numerous problems cropped up. Audi USA has been nothing short of terrible in terms of responding to our concerns. No more audis for us. I would suggest only purchasing this car with an extended warranty that includes coverage for gaskets and leaks.

This is a GREAT car. This car handles like it is on rails if you have the sport suspension. Ride is a bit hard if you have the sports package. The engine is very powerful for its size, and it gets great fuel economy.
