Stay away from this car! The control arms are a poor design and need to be replaced every 30,000 miles. $600 job!!! Audi has created a great recurring revenue stream for themselves. Buy a BMW, SAAB,Volvo, or even buy a Ford before you buy this poorly designed piece of JUNK!

  • Still great after all these years - 1999 Audi A4

Ive owned this car since bought new in late 1998, and I remaian as pleased as when I purchased it. No mechanical issues despite nearly 60,000 commute miles, and it has held up well consmetically as well. My daughter looks forward to when it can be her car (in five years when she gets her license!)

Why buy a rear wheel drive BMW when you can get an AWD Audi? Great value for what youre paying for. Quattro is a god send in snowy New England. The Bose Sound System is a gem! 6 Disk changer in the trunk in only a minor inconvenience. The interior is comfortable and stylish. My friends cant get over all the gadgets to play with, expecially the heated front seats. The exterior design is beautiful as it is. Who really needs a spoiler or body kits anyway? The certified warranty it came with is decent (100,000 or 2 years). I would recommend this car to anyone!

My wife is the primary driver of this car and loves the handling. She loves the suspension and the ability to navigate anywhere in the snow. The downer is that as soon as the warranty expired, so did the car. $1000 in repairs in the last 9 months.

  • Fun car! Unreliable. - 1999 Audi A4

At 23,000 miles, 20 days after the warranty expired, the water pump seized up and destroyed the engine. Audi rebuilt the engine and covered the cost. Whew! Audi service is wonderful (at least at Barrier Motors in Bellevue, WA) Since then the car is more reliable but continues to have small problems beyond the usual Audi issues. That said, I love the look and feel of the car and will buy another Audi -- probably the all road or the A6 Avant. The Audi visual appeal exceeds that of BMW.

  • Excellent Car, fun to Drive - 1999 Audi A4

In auto, the car is somewhat doggish from the start, and even in 1st gear manual mode it takes off a bit slow. Once it shifts into 2nd, it is pretty good. That little 4 cylinder does the job. It is not as smooth as the 2.8, however it is not so noticeable at higher speeds. Once this thing wakes it cruises like a much larger engine. The mileage however is similar to my 6 cyl engines in the city, averaging between 18 and 24 mpg depending how you drive. I can get 34 mpg! When doing between 100-115 for a couple hours straight, I will average around 26-28. Mileage could be better for a small engine, but you are pushing a heavy car with 4 wheel drive with it.

  • Forget about a Bimmer. This is better - 1999 Audi A4

I test-drove the 328, and all things considered , the Audi is better value for the money. It will run rings around the Bimmer in bad weather. There are a lot of neat features to learn about once you buy one. The downside is that the back seats are somewhat cramped. Im 61" though, and the front seats are fine for me.
