This Year's Model Updates:

Audi's entry-level sedan and wagon are all new for 2002. Along with a redesigned body structure and new sheet metal, the new A4 receives a variety of changes to make it sportier. It is motivated by either a 170-horsepower 1.8-liter turbocharged four or a completely new 3.0-liter 220-horsepower V6, which can be mated to a six-speed manual transmission. Making its debut this year for non-quattro models is a continuously variable transmission (CVT), also known as multitronic. An in-dash six-disc CD changer and a dual-zone auto climate control top the standard features list.

Pros:
  • Available all-wheel drive, powerful engines, sharp handling.
Cons:
  • Prices shoot up with options.

  • Excellent car - 2002 Audi A4

02 audi a4 1.8t quattro manual speed. I owned it for a very long time and now has 225000 miles on it with still original head gasket, starter, turbo, alternator. No engine leaks and performs fantastic. No issue on shifting or anything else. Just a regular maintenance. AMS oil every 4000 miles, and 93 octane and it goes. I love it. Always Audi owner.

  • Typical Euro car with high maintenance requirements - 2002 Audi A4

Ive owned the car since new with 220K miles. It has never been to the dealer or private mechanic except for the initial free maint and the few minor recalls. However, that is not to say it has not had its share of anomalies. Three timing belts, 3 water pumps, 3 batteries, One fuel pump, too many coil packs to count, one temp sensor, two valve cover gaskets and one thermostat. All this may sound horrible and it probably would be if I had no mechanical aptitude or desire to do my own repairs. The car is actually easy to work on. Very modular in the way things come apart. Information is readily available on the Net. Ive kept this car because the 1.8T engine block is bullet proof.

This car is a serious driving machine. It is not meant to be garaged or driven on Sundays to church. Much worse driven leisurely. This car is a monster and I did nothing to the engine. The only thing I added was a K & N filter to replace the factory one which in effect added another 15 hp simply because of the additional air coming in. From the moment you turn the car on you can hear the engine which to me was like music to my ears. I drove this car to the limit and had more than enough fun doing it. If I had to put it in 6th gear I was over a 100MPH easily. The highway drive was phenomenal. Man what a car. I bought it with 30k and trade it at 102k. Perfect in every sense of the word.

  • Great Car - 2002 Audi A4

I get up to 36 mpg on the Interstate at 70, average 27 total including around town, uses no oil between 5000 mile changes, BE SURE to use synthetic and change it as the turbo is hard on oil, change the CVT every 50K, everything works like brand new on this car, no wind leaks, no rattles, no rust, no squeaks. Change the timing belt every 100K, brakes last 50K plus, has original shocks and they are still good.

The new A4 3.0 is outstanding. Fun to drive and great styling. The CVT is quick and smooth. Highly recommend a test drive. In the class, I cant imagine a better car for the money.

This is the best handling car I have owned. Also has the best interior I have seen under $60K. Love the Quattro and the unique Audi style. For a few thousand more than an Accord or Camry, a much better car.

  • Best in Class - 2002 Audi A4

I drove all other vehicles in this class and the Audi was the best overall. The exterior design of the BMW is very sporty, and has a slight edge over the Audi w/o the sport package, but I think with the 17" rims, lowered body, stiffer suspension of the sport model beats out the BMW. The cornering is best in its class with the AWD. The sound system is also best in class. The interior is ergonomically perfect. To top it all off is the 48 month warranty on ALL maintanence. Best buy in my opinion.

  • Wedding has been consumated. - 2002 Audi A4

I looked at lots of makes before buying this car. This included the Infinity I35 and the Volvo S60. I left early one Saturday morning with the intent to buy an Infinity. But before I committed,..I want to test drive that sporty A4 that I had looked at a few weeks earlier. That evening I drove home an A4. One test drive and the marriage was consumated. I love this car and everything about it. Three months later and Im still having fun driving. Ill say it again. I love this car. But beware at 62" there is not much leg room in the back-seat when Im driving. And the center console is a little intrusive for a long legged driver. But I do love my car.

  • Cannot go wrong with A4 - 2002 Audi A4

Practical, comfortable and safe sports sedan. This is my second Audi, and I am definitely "hooked" on the brand. Strongly recommend for consideration if you are looking for entry level luxury sedan.

  • 1.8T is a little underpowered - 2002 Audi A4
    By -

This a great car and for the first eight months I absolutely loved the performance in this car. Then I bought my wife a Turbo S Beetle which has the same engine and I got to realize that this cars weight counts against having the 1.8T motor. The A4 has a lot of turbo lag under 3000 rpm which you dont feel in the Beetle with the same engine. I have a manual shift and quattro and it has the best roadholding in the world. Awesome motorcar. Next time, Ill go with the 3.0 or the S4, although at least this way I dont get the speeding fines I would with the 3.0
