This Year's Model Updates:

Last year's 2.4T model is now the 2.5T, with the same 208-horsepower engine as the AWD model. Bi-xenon headlights are a new option, while the sport package for the 2.5T includes speed-sensitive power steering.

Pros:
  • Superb comfort, wide variety of safety and luxury features, balanced ride and handling characteristics, available all-wheel drive.
Cons:
  • Handling lacks true sport sedan precision, expensive optional equipment, turbo lag and torque steer in the T5 model.

  • FM Problems - 2004 Volvo S60
    By -

I have owned this turbo for three months now and on the second day I noticed poor to no reception on the FM radio its been in the shop three times and goin in for #4 and still no fix...The people at the dealership have not been very understanding and basically deny the problem exists...The fourth time better fix it or else.....The turbo with the tiptronic is hard to power shift due to the turbo lag...the headlights are set to low..The AWD creates oversteer..The turning radius is horrible for this size car

  • Fix the Turning Radius - 2004 Volvo S60
    By -

I am extremely dissappointed that Edmunds didnt list the turning radius as its #1 con. There is nothing more frustrating than not being able to make a u-turn on a 2 lane highway without having to back up. My wifes 2002 Honda Odessey Minivan has a bettter turning radius than this. My recent rental 2004 Chevy Malibu has a better turning radius. If you drive in California which requires many u- turns and tight parking spots think twice about buying this car. Volvo has to fix this!! Other than that it is fun to drive and a great value considering what you are getting for the Money. I wish I performed U-Turns on the test drive.

  • Great Car - 2004 Volvo S60

Cant beat it for the money, Unless you want to drive something ugly. Its fun to drive, fast, and quick. I find myself driving much faster than normal and cursing those who drive merely 10mph over the speedlimit, because the car makes it so easy to do. Looks good (specially for a Volvo). Plus it has all of the thoughtful conviences youd expect from a luxury car.

  • Small things bother me - 2004 Volvo S60
    By -

I have had my Volvo for over a year now and its a good car, but I cant get over the radio knob for the pre-set stations, its a pain to use. Also, there is no trunk release in the car, which means I have to use the unlock function inside the car or on the key fob. Also, there is no where to put trash. The rear seat headrests block my vision, therefore I drive with them down and it looks stupid.

  • Dependable - 2004 Volvo S60

I have never been so excited over the gas mileage until now. I never knew how important that was. Very, Very dependable, I have not had a single problem with this vehicle to this date.

  • Long Term Evaluation - 2004 Volvo S60
    By -

I have owned the S60 2.5T for ten years, 175,000+ miles, until the sad day I totaled it. What Ive learned from my Volvo experience - ultra reliable, smooth running, and well built. Some driver sight line issues. Repairs: after 75k much front end work on tie rods, bearings, & struts and was still a little rattely. Replaced many tail lights (always kept spares in trunk). No drive train issues except some trans shift flaring from day 1. Interior plastic parts (console lid and steering wheel adjustment handle) broke about 100k. Gas port lid hinge (cheap plastic) broke off at 35k and lost lid on freeway. No rear seat space. Overall an 8.5 out of 10

  • S60R Worthy opponet - 2004 Volvo S60
    By -

Having owned BMWs, Saabs, and driven the latest Audi A4s I must say that Volvo has come up with a worthy competitor in this lux sport sedan class. It offers decent handling with optional modes depending on your mood and has enough power to earn respect of the best. AWD is a great asset and overall the car offers great value for money to the enthusiast.

  • many many problems - 2004 Volvo S60
    By -

i leased my s60r in 2/04 and have had nothing but problems with it. first the hose for the power steering went out and then a week later a fog light burnt out in april. since then it has 7500 miles and the chassis setting has gone out and it keeps backfiring between shifts. the backfiring has been a problem since april and service told me to first wind out the rpms and now i am told it is a characterisic of the s60r. the front tires are now rubbing when turned to the far right or left.i am meeting with the tech guy and volvo rep 11/10/04 hoping to get out of my lease and move on to a dependable car like the nissan maxima.

  • bold & strong - 2004 Volvo S60
    By -

car feels strong, very quuiet --low road noise, the backside of the front seats is cut in to allow slightly more leg room in the back, car can be loaded with safety features. I enjoy the "W" (wet drive) function, STC (stability control). Just wish car was standard with all wheel drive.
