Overview & Reviews
The top-of-the-line W8 model has been discontinued. The GLX loses its standard telematics system. New 16-inch "Rockstar" alloy wheels are standard on the GLS (in place of the former 15s), and new 17-inch "Bistar" alloys are optional on the GLS and GLX.
- Better handling dynamics than most sedans in its class, excellent value in GL or GLS trim, roomy interior with upscale feel, outstanding build and materials quality, available all-wheel drive, unique diesel engine option.
- Upper-level models are expensive compared to Japanese rivals, less rear-seat room and storage than competitors, V6 is down on power.

All I have to say is Excellent! - 2005 Volkswagen Passat
By Angelia Neidhart - September 10 - 3:20 amI bought my car a few months ago and I think its the best investment I have ever made! This car is so easy to handle, has great power, comfortable, especially on long trips, great gas miles, and very good looking! Also very roomy inside. I love all the features. VW did a great job on this one! I love my car!

Great Wagon - 2005 Volkswagen Passat
By Aurelian - August 4 - 8:33 pmThis is a great family car. The interior is absolutely gorgeous, and I love the elegant exterior. To me it looks like a car that should be twice as expensive as it actually is. The mileage is very good, close to 40mpg on the highway. The diesel engine performs very well. It is a little more noisy at idle than a gasoline engine, but once you start driving it, you wont notice any more noise than a gasoline engine. The standard features (no extra cost) on this car are numerous. The only options are leather seats, Climatronic (electronic climate controls), and bigger wheels. It is a very well appointed car. Highly recommended.

Do Not Make the Same Mistake I Did! - 2005 Volkswagen Passat
By SCOTT - July 30 - 2:16 amI purchased my 05 Passat TDI due to an increase in my daily commute and was sold on VWs diesel reputation for reliability and economy. After several warranty items were addressed(power window switches, bulbs, door seals, ext. brightwork, antenna, MAF and turbo sensor, battery) I wasnt too confident in the car. Despite my constant engine maintenance(oil change 8000 km with correct oil)the camshaft failed at 122km.($2400 repair) At 131km the oil pump chain tensioner failed.($1200 repair) All parts replaced with VW orig parts, not upgraded or any defects corrected. VW Cda had no interest in answering my calls, letters or questions. Now my fuel economy has dropped to mid 20s for some reason.

what a waste - 2005 Volkswagen Passat
By parag - May 23 - 4:00 pmI totally agree that VW doesnt stand behind its products and the dealerships are very incompetent. I have just had my Passat for 8 months and suddenly over the last two weeks the mileage dropped to 10 mpg on highway! I took it to the dealership and they say they cant find any problem and hence cannot help me out! All they did was scanned the computer to see if there were any problems. Further, they took my car for a spin and put 100 miles on it (50 miles more than what the invoice said). This is rediculous. I would never trust them or VW again.

2005 Passat GLX Wagon Experience - 2005 Volkswagen Passat
By ZoomZoom718 - May 14 - 3:36 amAfter looking at a variety of upscale wagons (Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Jaguar X-Type, Volvo, Audi, and VW Passat), we chose the VW. The Passat handles well, accelerates smoothly and the interior appointments are on par with the finest luxury wagons. The heated leather seats are incredibly comfortable. Its cargo space is more than adequate for shopping trips or travel. The rear passenger seating and leg room are great and you can actually fit three adults in the backseat. The GLX trim comes with a Monsoon stereo system that puts the Bose system we had in our former car to shame.

To Heck With the Hybrids! - 2005 Volkswagen Passat
By Dolphin - May 13 - 2:06 amThis car will grow on you and you will be very happy you no longer own a gas-guzzling SUV; it is an excellent car with great cargo capacity, perfect for my family of 4, absolutely awesome highway car. I got the GSL with Leather + wood, ESP and winter package, and added the rear 6 CD-changer. Solid handling, and this thing is built as solid as a tank.

Fun to drive - 2005 Volkswagen Passat
By Grandpa - May 5 - 6:23 pmThis is my 5th VW but the first diesel and I must say it is one of the best , the ride is good the car is very well made and the mpg is around 33 in town. never been on a long road trip yet so cant say what the mpg would be. If I could change on thing on the car it would be to extend the length of the front seat a few inches where the front edge of the seat would hit loweron my legs.

Passat passes - 2005 Volkswagen Passat
By mat72 - March 28 - 10:00 amSolid ride coupled with unsurpassed fuel economy makes it the easiest choice Ive made in a long time. Fit and finish is tight and interior is well thought out. Doesnt give you that cheap feel/look of its japanese counterparts.

Great Car With A Few Problems - 2005 Volkswagen Passat
By Lily - January 29 - 7:46 pmOverall, Ive had a great experience (short, so far) with my Passat. Its extremely fun to drive and gets pretty good gas mileage. At 9,000 miles, it hasnt visted the shop yet, although the engine seems to be slightly noisy and has a light rattle.
