This Year's Model Updates:

The top-of-the-line W8 model has been discontinued. The GLX loses its standard telematics system. New 16-inch "Rockstar" alloy wheels are standard on the GLS (in place of the former 15s), and new 17-inch "Bistar" alloys are optional on the GLS and GLX.

Pros:
  • Better handling dynamics than most sedans in its class, excellent value in GL or GLS trim, roomy interior with upscale feel, outstanding build and materials quality, available all-wheel drive, unique diesel engine option.
Cons:
  • Upper-level models are expensive compared to Japanese rivals, less rear-seat room and storage than competitors, V6 is down on power.

  • Everything was great, until... - 2005 Volkswagen Passat

I have had this car for 5 years. It was doing great until I hit the 75,000 miles. I drive about 72 miles a day, so I understand that the ware and tear is a lot more then others. I had a warranty up to 100,000 and right when it passed 100,000 the "oil pressure STOP" light went on. According to what I have read, it looks like these models have a sludge problem. It looks like they have been having this problem for most of their passat models. They do have an extended warranty for 99-04, but not 05. Also, they make it hard to cover, because they want EVERY SINGLE piece of documentation of oil change services. Now Im stuck with this car, trying to figure out if its worth fixing or get rid of it

Although I have had my passat for a short time, I cannot help but express my most positive experiences with the vehicle. The safety features, the room in the rear seating area, the comfort of the drivers seat, driving this car is alot of fun. Having the option to use the 5 speed shift like a manual or leave it in automatic mode, they both can provide some great acceleration.

This vehicle is an excellent pick for fuel mileage. Over the life of the vehicle, the least mileage recorded has been 33 mpg, which was in the dead of winter driving 10 miles to work with studded winters all around. The best so far has been about 45 mpg on a trip. Typically the car gets 42 mpg going to and from work which is 10 miles. Otherwise, the car has been a dream. Excellent response with the power equivalent to a small V6 gas motor. I have had very little problems with the car, and it has only been in for oil changes. The only real problem which was taken care of immediately, was a slow retracting seat belt. My only regret with this vehicle, was that it was not the wagon.

  • This is the car that saved my fanily... - 2005 Volkswagen Passat

Beside the looks and the performance, this car is one of the safest vehicles in the roads. I love the way it drive, the way it looks inside and out. But what I love the most is the safety that provides to me and my family. I originally bought 1.8T GLS on January 2005, but an eighteen wheeler crashed it against the concrete divider in the highway. Being hit by a truck Driven at 60 miles an hour, the damage was extensive, and the vehicle was totaled. However, my family and I walked out with virtually no injuries (my wife got a bruise when her legs hit the dashboard). I was impressed how well it was built, so I went and bought the TDI the next day. Youll never regret buying a Passat. I love it.

  • Lovin this car!! - 2005 Volkswagen Passat

I test drove everything in the Volkswagen Passats class, including the BMW 3-Series, Audi A4, Volvo S40, Lexus IS300, Saabs, Nissans, the list goes on. A friend recommended the Passat, I drove it once, and fell in love. The car is solid, feels safe as can be, has every feature I could ever dream of having, and is a BLAST to drive. I use the sportshift all the time and this car flies off the line when using it. It is not so great with the auto engaged, but it leaves nothing to be desired. I got a smokin deal on it. I have put on a ton of miles already because I just WANT to drive. This car has impressed me SO MUCH!

  • From Mercedes to VW - 2005 Volkswagen Passat

I had a Mercedes M-Class previously and decided to purchase more earth-friendly auto this time. I have continued to be pleasantly surprised with the vehicles comfort, reliability and gas mileage. The longer I am in possession of it, the more I appreciate it!
