The big news for 2004 is the addition of a 2.0-liter diesel four-cylinder engine to the lineup late in the model year. The 4Motion all-wheel-drive system is a delayed option on 1.8T-equipped GLS models. Also note that the 2.8-liter V6 is no longer available on GLS models. The premium Monsoon stereo and Homelink are now standard on all GLS models, while wood trim has been added to the optional Leather Package. The ESP stability control system is now standard on the GLX. Rounding out the changes are restyled 15- and 16-inch wheels and new side mirrors with integrated turn signals.

• Expensive upper-level models, less rear-seat room than some competitors, some confusing interior controls.

  I bought this car used after my 328xi was stolen. I was somewhat pressured into it and cant say I regret it. I drive in Denver and the mtns. I have been impressed by the smoothness and comfort of the car. It feels every bit as well built as my old 3 series. At 100+mph in the mtns, it feels as solid as any other German car I have owned. The 4 motion with snow tires is perfectly fine even in 14 inches of new snow yesterday. After 62000, I have not experienced any issues at all. I am frequently complemented on how nice it looks with the BBS rims and love the relative stealthiness of this car. I may never own a V6 again. I just added a new Kenwood nav/stereo/bluetooth...A+

  This is the nicest car Ive ever owned (or driven, for that matter). Its very secure on the treacherous winter roads here. Ive never needed anything but the all-season tiress that came on it. Its handling is great and its controls are right where you need them. The Passat is comfortable on long trips. I bought a phatbox MP3 system with 20 GB of space that integrates right into the existning sound system - fantastic system.

  So far, we have truely enjoyed this vehicle - considering that weve only have 180 miles on it. We are looking forward to a long road trip that we have planned for the Thanksgiving holiday!

  in syracuse, I wont let my wife drive anythin unless it is awd. build quality is excellent, shifter is good, clutch is very vague, easy to stall, to assisted, car is reasonably quick, for a family sedan, but put 19: rims on it, tint the windows, and put a spoiler on it, and even the fast and furious kids are impressed. only real complaint is the soft rev limiter in 1st gear that starts shutting it down almost 800 rpm faster than in 2nd-6th, just as the car really starts coming on in 1st, you are into the rev limiter, then it pulls real strong to redline in every other gear.awaiting the snow, to see how it performs in a syracuse ny winter with blizzaks on it

  Back in the shop w/less than 2500 miles. This vehicle has a tendancy to give ghost codes (caution/warning lights for no reason) the only problem with that is the inconvenience of the drive too and wait at the garage. The controls/levers are a tad bit confusing but youll get used to them. On the up side the W8 has great lines and is very attractive. The interior lighting is neat. You will enjoy driving the W8, it has good exceleration (not great, good) If you dont like paying high gas prices dont buy this car. It runs on 91 OR BETTER OCTAIN that is what is suggested by VW.

  Best car I have ever owned. The way the switchgear works, that all effort is the same, the solidity, the quality of materials and build quality cannot be matched by any American.

  I have had nothing but great times in my car. The only place where i would purchase another VW is at Valenti in Watertown CT. Great people honest, Excellent service and they really go the extra mile for you. As far as Im concerned they are the best dealership in this area.

  My entire family owns Volkswagens. I find them to be amazing cars. The only issue i have with VW is the timing belt and water pump. Other than that, these cars are amazing. I have never driven a more reliable car, or a car more fun. They handle like a dream and the stock sound system is ridiculous.

  Frustrating car to use. not logical controls. Seat belt reminder beeps even when in park. Doesnt shut off very annoying. Trunk locks automatically and you need the remote to unlock. just a pain. 4motion hesitates before accelerating. downshifts poorly.
