This Year's Model Updates:

For the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta, there is a refreshed instrument panel and cabin trim, a new climate control system and a new radio. Most trims also see a new leather-wrapped, multifunction steering wheel and standard Bluetooth connectivity. An iPod connection becomes a separate option (you had to get the navigation system before) while the SportWagen loses its SEL trim level and the accompanying turbocharged engine. The sport-tuned GLI has been discontinued. Finally, there's a new Limited Edition trim and the TDI Cup "Street" Edition debuts with an extra helping of tuner flavor.

Pros:
  • Diverse selection of strong engines, stellar fuel economy in TDI trim, upscale look and feel, comfortable seats, impressive cargo capacity in both body styles, pleasant ride.
Cons:
  • Below-average fuel economy with 2.5-liter engine, lackluster brake performance, small backseat compared to midsize competitors.

I have a 2011 Golf Sportswagen (Jetta in U.S.A.) and knew precisely what I was getting into. I was aware of the DSG problems that have been fixed . I knew that these were perhaps the finest seats that you can get in a car because I have a very bad back and these seats were the tonic. I loaded up the options list because I travel a lot each year - about 60,000 miles per because we have a home just north of Maine and I drive about 16 hours at a stretch. My only complaints have been the trim seals for the rear doors that were fixed under warranty. Other than that I knew to get a mid cycle refresh model so that all the bugs were worked out.

  • You gotta drive this car - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

being 42 yr old driver I have had several new and used cars in my lifetime to this point. By far this car is a blast to drive handles like my old 280 zx but gets 40+ miles to the gallon. acceleration, cornering and all around performance is top notch . Interior is well laid out the seat could be a slight touch larger but are comfortable more sporty than plush. All in all if the expected reliability is what its supposed to be I can see myself still driving this car in 7 years from now. And what I save a month on gasoline from not driving my pick up it is just about 3/4 of my car payment

  • Fine car with Bluetooth issues... - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

I finally reached the tipping point with filling my pig of an Audi with fuel every week and had read many positive reviews of VWs 2.0 TDI engine. I have owned several Audis and VWs so I am well aware of their iffy reliability and expensive maintenance, but Ive got a good warranty and free maintenance for 3 years. The engine and DSG transmission are perfectly matched. The powertrain is peppy, smooth and relatively quiet, considering it is a diesel. Beware of the Bluetooth option as the wagons have a crude and different module than the TDI sedan that seriously limits the functions. You can only receive incoming calls with the wagon; no downloading of phone contacts or voice control, etc.

  • Great value and fun to drive too! - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Just leased the 2010 LE automatic last week. I have to admit this is one fun car to drive. Fit and finish are on par with BMW and Mercedes. I just came off of a 5 series BMW lease, and my wife drives a 300 AWL Benz. I actually prefer the ride of the Jetta to the Benz. Not quite a challenge to the BMWs handling and performance, but for less than half the price its a pretty good trade off. The cabin is extremely quiet, even over rough pavement, and the car corners through turns very confidently with just modest body roll. Acceleration is reasonably quick. The car has a heftier feel to it which belies its actual weight. This translates into what feels like a more substantial road presence.

  • great car w/poor reliability - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

After 3000 miles on my tdi sedan (diesel) Im delighted w/this small car. Others have said the positive car qualities well, but also like others, Im unhappy with poor reliability. My car next week goes back to the dealership to fix leaking exhaust, twice, and now must replace 2 oxygen sensors. Both problems say my car wont pass my states rules. VW dealerships (2) have tried hard to help. Im very frustrated, of course.

  • Great car, not great fuel economy - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Bought this car at a used car sale by our credit union. Had no intention of buying a Jetta but took a test drive and I was sold. My previous car was a Volvo S60, before an A4, so I was used to a European car. The Jetta was a lot less expensive than the Volvo or the Audi but the ride was comparable. I owned this car for about 18 months before moving to a VW Tiguan but had no problems with it.

1st time owner of a VW product and I am satisfied so far. The first 2 noticeable advantages I have experienced have been the excellent handling on the road and the precise braking. The visibility from this car is great - I feel I am sitting in an SUV instead of a compact car.

  • drain plug broken by VW dealer - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

I took my 2010 Jetta TDI into the dealer for the 50k oil change. They broke the drain plug. This dealer blamed both the dealer who did the 40k oil change and VW for a defective drain bolt. Neither party would accept any responsibility or offer any assistance. The shop that broke my car did offer 50% towards the $600 repair bill as they needed to replace the oil pan. VW after doing nothing did ask me if I was satisfied with their service. Dear VW Im not satisfied and I will never purchase another VW product. Avoid VW. If they will not help on a minor issue that had nothing to do with wear or abuse do not expect VW to step and help if something major goes wrong.

  • I love this car - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

This is my wifes car. We test drove the SE, TDI and Wolfsburg. Wolfsburg won hands down. This car handles very nicely with the sport suspension. Its a tad rougher ride than the rest of the pack, but the performance is much better. The seats are very comfortable, the sound system is excellent. The DSG transmission shifts gears much faster than you could with a manual. 2000 miles so far. To me this car is like buying a BMW for half price. Its that good.

  • JettaTDI Bluetooth Issues - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

Any ideas what it may take for the dealer to eliminate the wind tunnel noise that folks hear when I call from my car? Im guessing (ran my own tests!) -- the mike is too close to the air vents in the car. Im concerned that they will want to take out the dashboard -- dont really want them to do this to a one month old car! Also the bluetooth wont pair with a 6-month old Verizon phone -- its supposed to pair with up to 3 different phones!
