This Year's Model Updates:

For the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta, there is a refreshed instrument panel and cabin trim, a new climate control system and a new radio. Most trims also see a new leather-wrapped, multifunction steering wheel and standard Bluetooth connectivity. An iPod connection becomes a separate option (you had to get the navigation system before) while the SportWagen loses its SEL trim level and the accompanying turbocharged engine. The sport-tuned GLI has been discontinued. Finally, there's a new Limited Edition trim and the TDI Cup "Street" Edition debuts with an extra helping of tuner flavor.

Pros:
  • Diverse selection of strong engines, stellar fuel economy in TDI trim, upscale look and feel, comfortable seats, impressive cargo capacity in both body styles, pleasant ride.
Cons:
  • Below-average fuel economy with 2.5-liter engine, lackluster brake performance, small backseat compared to midsize competitors.

  • its a no brainer - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Have 2800 miles on the car and no problems. Drives like a rocket in some RPM ranges and like a donkey in other RPM ranges. You have to get to know this engine, which is a jewell, and that makes it very interesting. Best of all i am averaging 42 miles per gallon and tank up every 2 weeks on a 14.5 gallong tank getting 600 miles per tank. Diesel is at about $2.90 per gallon so that equates to about $38 bucks every two weeks. I drive 50 miles per day plus the usual errands. Love that diesel "Purr" when in heigh gears, it tells me I am in low compsumptionn mode. Blue Tooth is great even without navigation syst. Fit and finnish on paar with Audi, inside and out. Stereo wonderfull.

  • 50,000 mile review for 2010 TDI - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Ive owned the TDI for 50,000 miles and I have had no problems. The car gets better than 42 mpgs as I drive between 55 and 60. I bought my car on July 30th, the last day of the government $1,200 tax rebate scheme, and the car was manufactured in May, so any early production bugs were probably all worked out. I want to keep the car for another 200,000 miles, let us see how that goes.

  • Oklahoma City 2010 Jetta TDI Sedan - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

I bought my Jetta TDI sedan in September and have been very pleased with it so far. Ive put over 1,000 miles on it in city, mixed, and highway driving and have averaged 38 mpg per fill up. My previous car was a 2004 Acura TSX which was fun to drive and very reliable but which used premium unleaded gas. The Jetta is about 60% more fuel efficient than my TSX and almost as much fun to drive. I like the DSG transmission just fine and have no complaints as do some other reviewers about lack of "creep" at a stop, the engine downshifting, etc. The fit and finish are very good, the handling is excellent, and there are a lot of nice little touches in the car that were unexpected pleasant surprises.

I bought my 2010 Jetta about a week ago so its still very new, but I absolutely love it! It handles very well and is a very smooth ride. The interior is spacious and standard features (including heated front seats, heated rear-view mirrors, and digital dash display) are convenient. The only issue Ive had is that the gas gap is very sensitive and you have to really tighten it otherwise the engine light will come on. Other than that, I am thrilled with my VW! Would definitely recommend this car to friends and family.

  • Head of the Class - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

This is our 3rd new Jetta (04, 06, 10) in what I am sure is a long list of more to come. All you have to do is shop the competition in this price-point (we paid just over $22k) to realize that there is no competition in this price-point. The German styling, euro-inspired handling and performance, and refined interior make you feel like you are driving in a car worth twice the price. One word of caution...if you feel the urge to "shop around" before deciding to buy, make the Jetta last on your list, otherwise it wont be fair to the others :)

  • Exceeding Expectations - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Just bought my TDI Sportwagen last week. And even though it is still in the break-in period, it is getting great gas mileage. My commute is 50/50 city/hwy and I am averaging 39mpg. The interior is comfortable and well laid out. The touch screen radio and steering wheel controls make everything easy and keep my eyes on the road. Seats are firm and comfortable. Cargo area is roomy for a small car.

  • So disappointed I traded it in within a month - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

I am a 4-time VW owner (Fox, old Jetta, new Jetta, Touareg), so I was eager for a reasonably priced wagon that gets great fuel economy. The vehicle was not fully explained to me at the dealership and I never would have bought it if it had been. The transmission is so incredibly jerky and when the car shifts gears, you actually jerk along with it. The brakes are so tight that they are shockingly sudden. I never had this before in my VWs. The seats are so uncomfortable that I feel like I am sitting on rocks, which could have been less expensive. I have needed to see a massage therapist and chiropractor due to these seats. I am petite-maybe someone taller can tolerate these seats.

  • 2010 Jetta TDI JSW DSG - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

I bought this car in October. Its my first diesel. The ride is smooth, handing excellent and the interior is very upscale. Between the Ipod Interface, Touchscreen Satelite Radio, 6 CD changer, SD card slot and am/fm radio there is plenty to keep you occupied on long trips. The car is "green" almost no diesel clatter and the DSG shifts like a true manual in Sport Mode. Mileage has been as high as 48.3 on the highway and about 30 mpg in down and dirty local driving. The cargo capacity at 67 cu. ft. is almost as much as the Suby Outback Wagon which is almost a foot longer. The gas mileage is significantly better as I am convinced I can get 50mpg when the engine is broken in.

  • Incredible machine! - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

The 2010 Jetta TDI is far and away the finest car I have ever owned. It is tightly constructed and a joy to drive. Best of all is the mileage: in a mix of highway and suburban driving, I consistently get in the mid-to-high 40s, sometimes over 50 mpg. I like the styling (last year for this style) and the interior quality is excellent. While not a screamer, performance is beyond adequate. In 20 months, I have put over 47,000 miles on this car with very few issues. My wife has a Honda Accord, and she is very jealous of my Jetta. Im very pleased!

  • Couldnt be happier - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

We bought this car mostly because of the efficiency and I like diesels much better than hybrids. From what I hear Im glad we got a 2010 and not a 2011. With just over 9000 miles we could not be happier with this car. It handles nicely, is comfortable to drive on long trips (we have driven it back home to Montana twice from Iowa since we got it), has plenty of trunk space, and gets phenomenal fuel mileage. We average 43-45 on the highway when the temperatures are above freezing and 36-39 when below. The standard Sirius radio is nice and the interior noise level is great. The transmission takes a bit getting used to as it shifts down when decelerating and slows the car down unexpectedly
