Overview & Reviews
Two new trim levels join the Jetta lineup for 2006: the upscale 2.0T and the sporty GLI. Both feature a 200-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, and both can be equipped with VW's trick DSG direct shift gearbox. All Jettas besides the Value Edition now feature standard alloy wheels, and torso-protecting rear-seat side airbags are newly optional.

NEVER again - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By neveragain1209 - January 12 - 6:45 pmI had nothing but trouble with this car. I actually feel badly for the person who bought it after I traded it in.We were a VW family but that has come to an end. 64000 miles in 6 years and the motor was blowing black smoke. Always changed the oil, replaced several major parts. VW didnt care at all-called them and no resolve. Do no buy this car! Junk-wagon. Back to being a Ford family.

3rd TDI, first awful TDI - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By heidimac - November 7 - 4:22 pmI traded a 2003 TDI sedan for this sedan ~ what a mistake! 1. just refused to turn over randomly. dealer response ~ too bad. 2. steering wheel deteriorated, peeling and gummy. dealer response ~ buy a cover.... too expensive to replace and may repeat problem. 3. Buttons peeled. First the buttons "paint" bubbled then began falling off. Theyre half white now; even on ones i have never used. dealer response ~ We have fixed that problem 4. Headliner began separating at all the rear impact bag locations, now it dangles from the roof. dealer response ~ We have fixed that problem. 5. MPG worse than my 03 or my sons 04 wagon.

"...Not worth it." - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By hasenpfeffer - July 26 - 3:17 amWhat ever happened to German engineering? This VW Jetta fell apart at 200 K. With a car payment still on the vehicle, Ive had to abandon it, a worthless husk. Mechanics Ive consulted since have also spontaneously offered their contempt of this vehicle. Its not just that the time chain needed repairs as the kilometers go on. Its the whole spread of sudden, systemic mechanical failures -- The waterpump, fans, electrical system, bearings.... I was told at the dealership in a whisper from the guy at the counter: "Dont do what were recommending. Its not worth it." Hence the title. Being a budget minded guy, Id usually be upset by this. I guess I am. Lifes too short. Buy a Focus.

Dissappointment - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By johnson - July 15 - 5:33 amThis car has been a disappointment from the day of purchase when the dealer left the oil cap off. It has been to the dealership three times due to a terrible vibration through the steering wheel when traveling slowly. They say it is within reasonable limits of the car. It is trash, and I cant wait to trade it in on the new Toyota RAV4 when it is released!

before you buy - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By thatguy33 - May 9 - 4:25 amBought my 06 in the summer of 07 with 200 miles on it. I just rolled over 142,000 but it has been at a hefty price. If you plan to buy a VW, be prepared to go to the dealer for everything, because everything is specialized and expensive. (my uncle is a mechanic and he wouldnt even change the brakes for me). Only reason I still have this car is because Im so upside down in it...

Dont Buy a VW - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By ihatevw - July 17 - 5:23 pmFrom the radio & power window buttons peeling off to the worst designed tire jack Ive seen, these cars are garbage. Volkswagen may make some sporty cars, but beyond the looks they are a big piece of crap. If youre looking for a reliable car keep looking but if youd like to drive a hunk of junk buy a VW. Never again will I waste money on a German car.

Dissapointed #1 - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By Ed - February 29 - 12:08 amIf it has not happen by now the headliner will come off the cd will stop working properly and you will hear a fan noise when the car is started. I have a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 and a 1988 Nissan Pathfinder and this never happen. I wonder what is coming next and I dont what to keep this car any longer. That is my last VW that I would own.

Never Again - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By verucasalt - February 3 - 10:46 amI will never again buy a Jetta. I was warned about how many electrical problems they have, I bought one anyway and now Im selling it, less than a year later. I love my VW, but she loves the shop and constant weekly (no joke) repairs. Research wisely before buying one.
