A completely redesigned Jetta sedan has arrived as a midyear replacement, but some versions of the previous version are still available. The GLI VR6 version of the old model was dropped from the lineup, while the GLI 1.8T added an automatic transmission to the options list.

My 2005 Volkswagen Jetta Wagon is fun to drive and comfortable. I have not had any problems with it. Its smooth ride is excellent on long trips.

  • Best Car In Class - Period. - 2005 Volkswagen Jetta

I bought my Jetta 2.5 a few days ago and I must say that I am amazed with this cars overall quality, fit and finish and attention to detail. The interior design is excellent and all materials are top-rate. The AT is smooth shifting and includes 6-speeds. Theres every feature you can possibly want (with package #2) in a car in this class. No other car in this class is as well equiped or has the same attention to detail for the price (~$26k)- period. The performance of the standard 5 cyl. is "good", but its slightly noisy; brake performance is very good; suspension is slightly firm but not too much (and absorbs bumps well); the steering feels slightly light; and the seats are excellent.

Very quiet on the highway. Solidly built. Great stereo. Fantastic interior quality. Great paint job. Too soon to tell about reliability.

I love the style and feel of this car. Its very fun to drive and speedy. The only thing Im not crazy about is how noisy it is at first starting the car. Its much roomier then the old version with an upgraded sound sytem... I love it.

  • Wouldnt buy it again - 2005 Volkswagen Jetta

After owning the car for 3 years, I can safely say I wont buy another VW. Ever since it was new, it sounds like a diesel for about 30 seconds when it starts. Very loud, dealer said its normal. Now with only 30k on it, I am replacing the rear PADS AND ROTORS ($400+) for the second time! My Toyota has over 65K and havent touched the brakes on it!! The Jetta also has a lot of road noise. While it does drive and handle well and is comfortable, overall I would say I am disappointed in the quality and dont expect it to hold up as long as it should for what I paid.

  • Expensive Fix - 2005 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

The first 5 years I had the Jetta I absolutely loved it. Performed all routine maintenance as recommended and had no issues other than normal wear & tear (tires & brakes). Hit 90,000 miles and problems have not stopped. Exhaust check engine light came on, $1000 to fix vent fans for engine. Didnt do service and two weeks later check engine light went off and problem ceased. 1 month later airbag fault light came on, trunk wont lock and opens when I am driving! Passanger side window will not roll up, stuck about 6 inches down. Appear to be all electrical issues but fix is very expensive.

Great car! Good gas mileage! I test 40 in city and 48 on highway and its only getting better. With the diesel engine I was surprised after driving a V6 Jetta that a 1.9L diesel would have about the same power when driving. Safety features are great. The price of my vehicle was $23,075 for GL version. It has everything I need. For the money its worth every penny.

  • Jetta 1.9 diesel still Rocks! - 2005 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

Jetta sedan and wagon versions with 1.9 diesel Turbo-Direct-Injection, yield 42 mpg in town with smooth 5 overdrive manual shift. Leather package, definate plus.

  • Worst car I ever owned - 2005 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

I bought it at 65k. At 80k everything needed repair. Engine, transmisson and electrical. The 1st repair shop will repair anything but VW and Audi. The 2nd shop said the VWs are the #1 car they see and to sell it now. #3 shop said the same thing.

  • VW Hetta TDI Wagon - 2005 Volkswagen Jetta

My experience with the TDI has been very positive. It has excellent fit and finish, no rattles at all. All of its equipment works flawlessly. I am getting a consistant 46 mpg with this diesel car.
